We showed up on a Sunday, not sure whether we were supposed to pay. "Nah," we said, "it's Sunday. Nobody will write a ticket for not paying." We were headed to that church on the other side of the convention center, so surely they wouldn't ticket the lone car in the parking lot. Guess we were right. Didn't pay for parking, and didn't get a ticket. Mwahaha! This parking lot isn't all that. It's not even properly paved. It was a gravel surface. There was gum in the parking lot, and litter too. Ew. I paid $6 for one day of parking at 7:49pm on Jan 11. The ticket prints and says the parking expires at 11:59pm on Jan 11. The last I checked the math, that's 4 hours and 11 minutes of parking when they tell ou on the screen it'll be one day of parking. In my first incident with McLaurin parking I tried to pay with the only card I usually carry: my amex. The machine says it takes amex but the machine refused to processes it "denied" it said. My card was not declined by amex, there is no record that McLaurin's machine even attempted to authorize payment. My two experiences are that these people are liars, nothing they say or show you is the truth and they are doing anything they can to find a reason to issue citations and collect $20 on top of the parking fee you pay. read more

So I tried to pay for my parking. I used cash and coins. I tried to pay with my debit card and still no luck. So when I returned 30 mins later of course I had a citation for $20. So I appealed it. Then after wondering what would become of this for several weeks. I receive a letter stating I owe $30 for non-payment. So I called their office and she says " Did you check your spam I'm sure they replied" Sure enough in my spam I find my appeal was declined because several transactions took place in the time period in question. Really....these people are crooks. Last time my friend tried the pass port app and also recieved a citation. I would rather walk from lake lure next time! Whenever I got downtown I've had to park in their parking lot and when I call the number provided if I'm having issues I get no help in return and nothing but an attitude when asking simple questions from a woman named Angela... now I try and park anywhere but there. I've run into having to deal with her several times and it's nothing but negative customer service. I don't know who would employ such a nasty person. read more

I paid $2 at 11:05 am and returned to my car at 12:38 to find a ticket for "non-payment". Naturally I was furious and called, only to receive no response. Went online and filed a repeal for the ticket. Today I received an email telling me that my payment had "expired" and I hadn't submitted additional funds, but since it was my first offense with them, they would out of the kindness of their heart void the ticket. These people are rip off artists. I am happy the ticket was repealed, but the smug, condescending tone of their response just incinerates me even more. If it's $1/hr and I pay $2 and I'm not even there 2 hours, explain to me how it expired? I'll tell you how, the person who picked up the money lied. And the original ticket, suggests there was no money at all. What did you magically find the $2 that supposedly I never placed in the first place? They got caught in a con of one of their employees trying to pocket the money and rather than man up and deal with it, became condescending and haughty acting like they were doing me some huge favor. I love AVL but not the service of the parking management!!!! Even with monthly paid parking during my extended stays - I have received tickets and ultimately had my car booted. They called me after the boot to "try to resolve the issue". I'm less upset about the exorbitant fine than I am for the argumentative representation from the parking manager. Forget Customers are always right - in this case, Customers are not even listened to!! Update - while my AVL experience holds true, I received follow-up from their Corp Office and they listened with empathy and made the situation better. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this one is to protect the consumer or unaware out of town visitors. First, the "parking lot" is nothing more than a gravel lot with poorly marked spaces. Second, their posted price signs are conveniently enough placed where cars park (so the prices are hidden). Third, "customer service" is a joke. I wish this company had pride in their business or cared about their customers, but they don't...it's pretty obvious when every review is one star and they do nothing to improve. I would highly recommend any of the other actual parking lots in downtown Asheville. If you can't find a spot, Uber is an amazing service and alternative. It's most shitty parking lot I have ever seen. Look like just try to find trouble to everyone. We fucking did pay money to the machine. And they took photo and fine you and took a photo of the machine say..."yea, you didn't pay anything. We fined you." The parking lot has no camera, no assistants, you can't even find anyone to talk to if you have any concern. Parking tickets are consistently issued after parking has been paid for. Reversal processes take time and effort unlawfully from individuals. McLaurin parking in Asheville (mulitple locations) is engaged in systematic negligence in the way that it cites its customers who park in their spaces. I have documented evidence for three occasions over the past four months (and several others that I have not retained evidence for) where either myself, my employees or my clients have been issued parking tickets despite the fact that parking has been paid for via a mobile app, Passport. The information is as follows: March 5, 2015 - Passport Transaction number 4769419, citation number 2503912. June 3, 2015 - Passport Transaction number 7475815, citation number 2585989. July 9, 2015 - Passport Transaction number 8702383, citation number 2655495. These issues (not to mention others where no documentation has been retained) demonstrate a consistent recurring issue with the parking system that defrauds parking customers of either their time or their money - or sometimes both. There are additional cases where reversals were made that we do not have documentation for. In addition, several times fines have been paid and in some cases, cars have been immobilized and no mercy was shown when those fines needed to be paid. The parking agency insists that it is a problem with the Passport Mobile app and that the updates are not sent to their officers in time to acknowledge the Passport payment. However, the time frames range from two minutes after paying for parking to three hours, which lends no credibility to the business' excuse about how the Passport parking app does not register immediately across all systems. I am now in a habit of encouraging my customers to use either a parking garage in the area or some other means of parking as the lot across the street is consistently defrauding my team and my clients. However, many of the local lots in the area are also owned by McLaurin parking. Thus, we cannot simply boycott the problem as there are instances where McLaurin parking lots must be used. Otherwise I would gladly support such a measure. In instances where fines have gone over by "just a minute or two" there has been no mercy displayed by the company in reducing fines. When fines are issued without justification, the burden is inappropriately placed on the customer to then dispute the charges or face escalating fines and vehicle immobilization. The pattern of inappropriate charges calls into question all fees and charges issued. If you are parking in downtown Asheville, you would be wise to avoid McLaurin parking lots at all costs. read more

This lot is the worst place you could possibly park. Myself and every one of my coworkers has at some point been issued a ticket when we had paid the full amount for parking. The parking attendants either can't count higher than two, or they are dishonest and pocket your money. The main problem with their system is that they have no accountability whatsoever--no cameras, no receipts. So if you put a 5 dollar bill in the box and the attendant comes by two hours later and decides to say it was a 1 dollar bill....sorry, tough luck for you, it's a 1 dollar bill now. And you have a $20 penalty ticket. I've also have friends practically assaulted by the parking attendants, who will bang on your window before you can even get out of your car to tell you that you need to pay. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of any McLaurin owned parking lots. Do us all a favor and tell your friends. read more

I am from out of town and parked in a McLaurin lot in Asheville on Thursday, February 19, 2016 while visiting. Machine was not working, would not take money or information. Left a note clearly visible through the front windshield to that effect with time of day. Came back an hour later to $18 parking ticket. Called McLaurin in Friday to appeal ticket, was told the machine DID work (we observed numerous people in the lot at that time were unable to use the machine). Argumentative customer service person, did finally concede after much discussion to reduce the fine by half. I will still NEVER park in a McLaurin lot and do not recommend them to anybody. read more

My first visit to Asheville, NC. Parked for 2 hours from 4:13 PM - 6:13 PM this past Saturday on St. Patricks Day. Got back to the parking lot at around 5:55 PM to add extra time to my already purchased ticket. The Parking ticket machine displayed 'this option is not available'. So waited for the ticket to expire and add additional time for the same spot. Still didn't work; tried adding time for a different spot. Again Negative. Took a video of the entire process as proof. Came back after a couple hours only to find a PARKING TICKET. After reading the above comments, I believe the meters are intentionally programmed in a way to scam and con people by making them pay in the form of Penalty Tickets. Absolutely horrible! I parked in a small parking lot I've frequented in the past without problem, so this is a real surprise! It is located directle across from the 'Orange Peel'& catty-corner to Bar Taco on Biltmore Ave. I put ​a ​$1 bill & 4 quarters in the pay box​.​ When we came back I had a ticket saying there was only 4 quarters in the box! WRONG! I called the # listed immediately. Every time I said 'I put $1 bill & 4 quarters in box the woman coldly refuted me by saying 'No, maam'. I said the person who took the pic of the quarters HAD to have taken my $1 bill because I PAID...I ALWAYS PAY! I asked her to send someone NOW to open the box & check further for the $1 bill. She said 'No'. I called police, explained, & he came & he tried to call to have someone come out but they were now closed. Instead, I am filing a complaint of theft of my $​1​ bill because SOMEBODY stole it & it needs to be investigated to find out WHO! How much money is being stolen by whover picks up the money? How many people are they doing this to? There is a big scam going on here that needs to be looked into & stopped! I found a multitude of complaint reviews on-line...so my case is not unusual. Along with those on-line complaints (about McLaurin Parking), there are also complaints listed with the BBB. A multitude of all those complaints are the same as mine: being accused of finding no payment or insufficient payment in the paybox even tho' they apparently paid. The problem is that there is NO way to prove you paid. Even tho' I put a $1 bill & 4 quarters into the box, the picture of the paybox only shows the quarters I paid. Either the $! was stuck above the pic or somebody (the person picking up the $?) STOLE my $1!! One dollar sounds small but they are demanding a $30 penalty...despite that I DID pay! ​ ​And somebody, taking small amounts, ends up with a lot more than $1 This company should be concerned enough to investigate whoever picks up that money because the company is losing a lot of money, too, & gaining a bad reputation. I won't park there anymore unless I can figure out 'proof of payment'. They should update with a machine that identifies the amount of money put inalong with the date & time. Other parking places do that...why can't they? Right now, there's nothing but your word that you paid &/or their word that you didn't. Somebody picks up that money...but no way is there any proof of what was paid or what was stolen...it's all based on word alone. I spent $9 parking at their lot for the downtown Asheville leaf festival. I arrived back at my parking space shortly after my time expired. This is a bad company that will penalize you for any overage at the rate of $50-100 for any time you do not arrive back in time. I appealed my case to them, they took over a week to respond and asked me to pay $30. Really! When i called to ask why they had not yet responded the not so nice employee said we'll get to it. WHen they did respond they said I had owed $75, not the $50 on the ticket, and they would grace me with a $30 charge. read more

I have a handicapped license plate and was parked in their one handicapped space ---------------------- have parked there 4 or 5 times in the past and never put any money in the meter and never a ticket. I Have tried to call them and try to work on trying to get the ticket paid and I wasn't in the parking lot less than a hour. I was driving my friends car and dropped my friend off. I was getting out of the car and the guy was behind the car taking pictures and tried to to talk to him. Because I didn't know that the parking lot was a paid lot. I have parked there before and it's. The guy that gave me the ticket was an asshole. I told him that I didn't have the internet on my phone and I had cash but it didn't have cash slots. I asked him I could move the car and the guy said no. I just dropped a friend off and got a ticket. I have never gotten a ticket in my life. Asheville has gotten money hungry. The only way to pay the ticket is to go online. Not everyone has internet. Now the 1.00 parking is costing me 60.00. WTF. read more

Encountered a female employee of Mclaurin Parking driving a white van with very strong BO and an extremely nasty attitude while working in Asheville. A coworker and I where on official duty and in the hours before 9:00am pulled into the empty lot to look for an address adjacent to the lot. We where gone less than 2 mins. We come around to the car and she was taking pictures of vehicle and immediately starts arguing and Not allowing my coworker to say anything. He was trying to explain to her what we were doing and what agency we worked for. He even apologized to her several times. She wasn't trying to hear anything he had to say. She was extremely rude and confrontational for no reason. I guess we should have put some money in the slot. Clearly she needed the money to buy some soap to bathe with . The customer service department of this company clearly needs to address this lady's approach at customers as well as her hygiene . read more

This company deserves less than one star. I have always paid for parking with my passport parking app. On more than one occasion, I have selected my parking spot and time of stay with confirmation given yet have still received a ticket. Tonight I had my car booted with a 168.00 release fee. After speaking with Angela, the customer service representative, she admitted to understanding how I was not in the wrong. Yet I still had to pay over 100 dollars to remove the boot. As this is my only form of reconciliation, I highly recommend avoiding any lot that is monitored by Mclauren parking. read more

If you can possibly park ANYWHERE that is not owned by this company, DO IT. I pulled into the parking lot and put cash money in the slot. They issued me a ticket, and as "proof" submitted a photo of the empty money collection slots. ALL of them were empty, which suggests to me that somebody removed the money before taking the photo - or their claim is that NOBODY paid the parking fee that day - - OR MAYBE the person checking the money and writing the tickets just routinely submits a stock photo of empty slots when submitting the "proof." Nobody ever answers the phone when you call, but their message sure does tell you to have a "blessed day" which is pretty rich coming from such a ripoff company. Yeah, I'm not the only one. There were several other people ticketed that day who had also paid, and yes, we were all angry. My guess is their money collector might be ripping them off. read more
