Parked ourselves at the bar this place was very cosy, open fire to the end of the room made this place ubber cosy. There was plenty of locals here, place had a really good atmosphere. I ordered a tea and it was hilarious, barman turned around and flick the kettle on... Yep, no fancy gimmick hot water machine it was a just kettle and served up in a big standard ole irish cup. Old school, loved it! There was great banter going on amongst folk, the barman also doubled up as a bookie so that had folk very lively altogether. From the city, use to paying high prices so it's great when ye get out into the country, €4 for pint of Guinness and cup of tea was like €1 My husband got talking to an old local man who was super friendly, he recognised us as not being from around the area which was nice of him to say hello :-)

I went for a cup of seafood chowder to start, followed by the steak sandwich. The chowder was just okay in my opinion. A bit too salty and not as thick as I like it. However, I may be a chowder snob. The steak sandwich in the other hand was unreal! Chunky chips, thick sliced bread and the most tender cut of steak. Perfect for a sandwich. I engulfed all the food. The chips were a winner. Fureys tends to be a busy spot, so you may have to wait to be seated. The staff are amazing and handle your wait really well. We were seated and taken care of really quickly. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing by.

But just beware the few wasps which hover about outside and seem to be attracted by nearby apple trees and the scent of fruity cocktails! I visited in August 2017, as part of a Carlingford Mystery Cocktail Tour, and amongst our party of sixteen ladies, for most, this pub was a firm favourite. The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Looks like they get large crowds during the evenings, and even offer lots of live music and DJs. The bartender was friendly.

Ordered the fish and chips, which were crisp on the outside with a flavorful batter, and tender fish on the inside. It also came with a nice little pea salad, with mushy peas and whole peas together with the greens. I definitely need to make this! Also got the Irish Cottage Pie and it was very tasty - rich in flavor but lighter than I expected, in a good way. Shared a pint of Guiness (just missed splitting the G - lol) and finished with an Irish coffee, which hit the spot. We got their fish & chips and Irish Cottage Pie. Both were very good and filling. Fish was nicely breaded and fried. Good flavor in their batter. Cottage pie was full of flavor but not overly rich. Great atmosphere and food/drinks. Lots of pubs to choose from in Dublin - Stag's Head is worthy of a visit.
