My 1st to go bar upon landing in Dublin. Got to say, it's the best Dublin's preserved Victorian pub. The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin. read more

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. This was on the list recommended by our local friends. And we are so glad to walk into this charming, historical pub with cozy and chill vibe. Don't let the smaller menu fool you. We had the toasties dishes, and they are warm and filling, perfectly paired with Guinness, especially for the cold rainy day. The servers are incredibly friendly and fun to chat with. One of the chillest pints with great food to match, you could not go wrong with stopping in here. It's small but they have a sister restaurant if it's too packed. We had such a crisp Guinness it was definitely one of the best of the trip. We got the burger which was massive with great onion rings on top. Fun Irish pub atmosphere. They were a tad busy when we first arrived but they still took our order quickly. Hubby ordered the Irish stew which was rich and flavorful. It was paired with mashed potatoes which were quite dry, but the stew did help balance that. I had the fish n chips. The fish was amazing. Very light and airy batter and it was cooked perfectly. Iconic place, good drinks, crazy busy when we were there but overall good fun. The floors are mad sticky and something or someone bit my ankle lol. It was definitely something. Came here for a story-telling event. Food and drink was not included, so we got there early because to see if we could order some from the pub to have during the show. The employee I spoke to seemed a bit confused by what I meant and we ended up sitting down in the pub and eating beforehand. The food was pretty good. Very solid. Amazing? Not quite. I added salt to my chowder, and my father said the patty of his burger could've used more salt/seasoning. Came for lunch on the weekend and it was very very easy to find a seat. Irish coffee was really bomb. Great service although I did sit at the counter. The seafood chowder was okay, I'm glad I tried it but I don't necessarily recommend it. It was good but it wasn't anything special. I am in love with the beef and guinness stew. So full of flavor and the potatoes were a perfect consistency. I think the food hours on the website are wrong, I think it's just 12-6pm for food. I tried to come on Friday night at 6:30pm since the website said it was until 7pm and they were no longer serving food and it was a packed house inside on all floors. I'd come back for the food. I think the Stagshead was amazing. It did take a while for our food to get out but it was worth the wait. I got a burger and it was delicious. There was nothing wrong with it end it was a little messy but that was OK and the place itself is nice. You might get stuck in a corner. There's very little seats but I think there's an upstairs and downstairs overall, I think the Stagshead was great. read more

Busy spot, but a good spot, despite its touristy reputation. Stopped in for a quick bite after my walking tour. Despite having bookmarked this place ahead of time, the tour guide also made a point in mentioning it, so the decision was easy. I wasn't going to drink, but one of the other guys on the tour ended up stopping in right after I sat down so I had a Guinness with him. The Guinness stew was plentiful and filling, a bigger lunch than maybe I would have liked, but my gluttonous self finished it up anyway. There's a taxidermized fox in the back room. Horrible offensive bartender behavior. This is what I wrote to the company contact email regarding my service today: Hello, Today around 2:00, my mother and I were stopping in for a pint and a photo of the stag on the wall for posterity sake, when an irate pony-tailed bar tender shouted at me saying, "DON'T TAKE MY PICTURE!" It stunned me so much, I thought he was joking, so I laughed but when I saw his red face and his finger pointing at my face, I realized he was very mad! My 81 yr old mother who was standing next to me said "She's not taking your picture she's taking the picture of the stag!" So this red faced bar tender shouted and continued pointing at my face, yelled "Well take a picture of the stag, not Me!!!!" Please find attached photo of the stag which you will see an absence of the pony-tailed red faced bar tender and please convey my apology for accidentally flattering this man into thinking I'd ever want a photo of him! If I wanted a picture of a horse's ass I'd have gone to the horse's ass pub! You might also explain to your employee that we had walked for 2 miles to enjoy your place but after that experience, we left! Me and three girls went to meet my friend in this bar on St Patrick's day. We walked up to the door and before we could say anything the bouncer looked at us and said "no" saying that we were too young. Despite us asking him to check our IDs (we were all 20 and 21) he shooed us off not even looking at our identification. He gave us no other reason for not letting us in. My friend who I was meeting was allowed into the bar, and she is younger than I am. It was the rudest treatment I've ever experienced. My friend (who I hadn't seen in months) had to come outside to bar to talk to us. And when she went to walk back into the bar (where the rest of her friends were) this man denied her entry even though he had previously let her in and she'd been in there for an hour. She tried explaining this too him and asked why he wasn't letting her back in. His response was that "he didn't need a reason." It was obvious that he didn't let her in because he had seen her with us. We were not rude to this man and literally hadn't said a word when we originally walked up and he shooed us away. My friend who was trying to get back in had her friend who was still in the Stag's Head to come down, but this guy was not budging and refused to let her back in. This kind of behavior was clearly to feed his ego because he was denying other girls our age (who are of the legal drinking age). He also eventually told us that the reason he wasn't letting us in is because we are American. Again, he was treating us horribly before we had said a word. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a bouncer for literally no reason at all. It is disgusting how a person can act when they have just a little bit of power. read more

Wanted to check out this pub based on Yelp's recommendations, but left disappointed. The decor looked awesome and seemed like a cozy place for a drink. I got in and sat at the bar. It wasn't too busy given that it was still in the afternoon. A couple bartenders passed me by and didn't even acknowledge or say hi. On particular, a girl bartender was filling ice right in front of me and didn't even look up to say hi. Then, I finally asked for the menu, to which a male bartender said which one? I answered and said drinks menu. He said he doesn't have drinks menu and it's just whatever you see at the bar, he said in a dull, unfriendly manner.
