Also preclearance is the worst thing ever. I would rather go through customs at JFK. Honestly ridiculous.

With a pedigree like this, you would expect to find the finest pint of Guinness in the land within those four walls. And you wouldn't be let down. Creamy consistency. Perfect pour. Beyond the Guinness, the management of this watering hole take a commendable interest in keeping things lively and the regulars (and not-so-regulars!) stimulated and happy to be there. From drinks promotions to a trad night on a Thursday, various bands on a Sunday (excellent Sunday Sesh to be had here folks, for those inclined), to poker nights, six screens for watching sport in the lounge, and a function room with private drinks taps on each table. Bar staff are really friendly here too - they've all been there for ages so are well versed on the lay of the land. The lounge serves breakfast from 10am to 12 noon, carvery lunch is also available daily and bar food is served throughout the day. Above all, the pub has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. There is a lounge and a bar, with a perfect little snug right next to the bar if you can get down there in time and beat the locals. If you ARE in the bar, make sure you also save all your receipts, because every Sunday, each receipt is put in a draw to win a pot of money to go towards funding those ever-so-tasty beverages (minimum of €500 each week!!!!)

The entrance is very non-descript. It's an ugly grey metal door with VCC randomly applied, so if you didn't know what was there it would look industrial. There is a door bell to the left of the door. Ring it a few times and someone will open the door and check you in. With reservations they do make you wait until exactly that time so don't be alarmed. Your table is already selected for you. The inside is loungy and very swanky. Both times we had extremely comfortable chairs. Service is immaculate. Their menu is massive, very well published and explained. Our servers were both able to explain exactly what the cocktail may taste like as some of the combos might blow your mind. I had the Dirty Wizard which sounds odd on based on ingredients but was delicious. I also had the Purple Pearl which was my perfect cocktail. My husband tried a few different whiskey concoctions and he was impressed by all of them. I highly recommend adding VCC to your Dublin itinerary!

We were travelling on the nearby M4 and randomly visited this pub in a college town very hungry for a late lunch. The environment was nice with candles and a cozy feel but our 'strict schoolteacher' waitress left a lot to be desired in the attitude category. Poor students probably mean crappy tips and we got the tail end of a bad lunch rush. No matter, we ordered the "Hot stuffed roast beef sandwich with vegetable soup or fries" - 7 euro. I don't exactly know what was presented 20 minutes later, but here's a description. The soup was a sallow opaque gruel more like a gritty yellow/puce bisque but without quality or flavor, a bit like wallpaper glue in texture. No vegetables I could see survived...none. Perhaps it wasn't vegetable soup in hindsight, but it was warm, neutral and nontoxic so I had three spoonfuls before I quit it - my girl didn't make it that far. She was distracted by the entree which consisted of two mushy cold toast slices with a firm grey organic mass in the center that I took to be meat of some sort. Tough, completely without flavor and overcooked my post mortem was this was a boiled bovine something at one time and then maybe it was microwaved to withdraw any remaining taste, I don't know. It was laughably inedible and dissecting the sandwich we later discovered some soggy little sponge cubes that probably were the 'stuffing', though we couldn't be sure, as by this time they had attached themselves to the bread to make a small henge around the meat sacrifice. My lady finished her pint and we laughed off the experience. After a while gave up on our waitress again who perhaps was hiding out of shame and eventually threw a 20 euro on the table and left. I'm sure this is a great place most of the time and we just had a rare lousy experience.
