Went there with friends Saturday night July 4th looking for a place to watch the national fireworks show on FOX news. We had been all over town and walked out of several places because they would not allow us to watch it even though their bars were empty (good business call OG). Chanel was super nice right from the start and let us watch it in a private corner of the restaurant, she even turned up the volume so we could hear the president and military singers. We were having a great time and enjoying great service when I turned around only to see about a dozen new customers behind us enjoying the show along with us. And guess what? Spending money!! I'm not particularly fond of the strip mall McMenamins restaurants, but they do try to giving an otherwise boring strip my some character and I appreciate that. We just happen to be driving by and hungry. It was a Saturday afternoon and pretty dead to be honest. They had a few Tabs on and tuned into an NFL football game. The decor was actually pretty cool and I love the ceiling especially. Our server was also the bartender and gave us great service. We ordered the communication breakdown burger with tots and told them we were going to share it. They actually cut it in half for us and split it. We didn't ask for this but they did it and we were thankful. Way to read your customers! I wanted to get a beer but honestly the beer offerings did not excite me. Truth be told, most of the time McMenamins has average beers but they do occasionally hit one out of the park. Nothing wrong with their beers but I am a picky beer drinker so if I am paying almost $9 for a pint I have higher standards. If you just need a beer, this place has several good options. Don't let me deter you, as I said I'm just picky. Plenty of parking available and some outside seating that is covered. Definitely a great place to just chill. read more

Came for the 9pm happy hour and found ourselves to be the only ones in the restaurant on a Thursday night. LOVED the tots and thoroughly enjoyed the wine and beer flights. Emily was our server and she was so sweet and did a great job staying attentive while working on closing up shop! Oak Hills Pils: A VERY good Pilsner. Perfect drink to keep getting refills on. Bagdad Golden Ale: Similar, in my opinion, to a really good Amber Ale. Hammerhead: Of all styles, this reminds me of a Kolsch. I am a huge fan. Side Yard Hef: Super light. Tastes just how you'd expect if I told you it was a "light beer." Kris Kringle: dark, well spiced, certainly wintery Ruby Ale: Delicious. Fruity in the best way. This is our neighborhood mcmennamins so we go here often. It's smaller but so cute and the staff is always so kind! Sitting outside when weather permits is my go to. We often go here for brews with friends too. I also suggest the hummus board, it never disappoints! read more

When your server tells you that the special of the day is African peanut soup, you don't hesitate to give it a try. What are African peanuts, and how do they end up in a soup at a pub in Oregon? I'm not really sure, but I'm forever glad I tried it. Our experience was great-from the friendly service to the unique flavors. We might not have been the traditional pub patrons, as we didn't order beers on tap (or beer at all), but we enjoyed our lunch. The soup that I mentioned is a bit spicy, but not so much that the average person can't power through it. (I'm a bit on the wimpy side, so anything spicy usually makes my eyes water. I handled this like a champ.) The tots were also delish. I've noticed tots on lots of menus around Oregon. Maybe that's a thing? I like it. The ambiance of the restaurant is very unusual-and it works. The artwork on the ceiling, mixed with the hanging plants all around give this place a special character that you won't find in any old chain restaurant. read more

Customer service 10/10 they know how to treat customers of all kinds. Cleanlyness: 10/10, every unoccupied table nice and clean and mine actively cleaned as i got done with stuff. Food quality and execution 10/10: Chef Sim knows what they are doing. Music and interior design 10/10: it takes you to a place far better. The long island: took me to the galaxy cosmos. The winter cocktail: brought me back home mentally. The communication breakdown: One of the best burgers ever. The fries: always a favorite with how both crisp and dift they are. Salad: Nice and vegital to get me thru the feast. Onion rings: truely unique with softness and crispymess with the onion staying in the shell. First thing. The service here is almost uniformly excellent. The staff learns new customers, is pleasant, is efficient, is personable, really is great overall. Second thing, the decor and atmosphere are good. Not great, but for a neighborhood spot, it's more than good enough. Third thing, the food. It's on a McMenamin's par. Would I like better? Yes. The fish and chips are pretty grim - industrial products you'll find in dozens of places in precisely the same shape and weird almost-doneness til you get toward the fish that can be found almost EVERYWHERE now. The chicken strips are a bit better, but they have a grimly industrial note as well - just not dank and weird toward the protein the way the fish goes. The other food ranges from acceptable to not at all bad. None of it is great, but if they're aiming toward more than competence, they need to put in some work. Still, you can get a good enough meal here. Since covid, restaurants that don't actively make me sick are getting better and better grades, and these people don't make me sick. Sometimes things are quite decent. Now we get to it. I drink cider. I don't like the weird flavors. I'll drink cherry if it's there, because it doesn't taste weird. Otherwise, I like apple. Normally, the Edgefield's apple is one of my favorites, and having this place so close to my house is great. Except that for the last month or so, their cider has been flat. I've come back multiple times. I've been there when the keg was changed and got flatter. I've been there when they told me they got a new CO2 tank yesterday and everything is great - but I can put a (clean) knife in my (fresh) cider and stir it like I'm whisking foam into my milk for an espresso, and the cider sits there and doesn't even bubble at me. If a place that says it's a brew pub can't give you a reasonably aerated tap beverage, what is one to do? read more

We frequent all the McMenamins around the area. Yes, the prices are insane, and the service is typically slow. The latter is where this location excels. This is our go-to at this point, simply because the service is consistently great. They are always friendly, and the service has been spectacular as of late. There may be bad days, but in general I do feel like the higher prices are easier to swallow when the service is great, and the food is good as well. read more

Easy convenient parking in a mall. They are known for beer and mixed drinks. Food was ok. Sweet potato fries were greasy. Our server was great. We were passport holders so we got our stamps and a free meal due to filling up the appropriate page. Pretty quiet place with not a lot of people when we went. read more

The staff at Murray & Allen were nice and provided fast service. tater tots are crispy with lots of sauces and Cajun spice packaged carefully. Roasted turkey sandwich was 3 out of 5. If the meat was a true deli thin slice then it would be much better. The Lilikoi key lime tart dessert was amazing. It's one of the best desserts ever. Our server Kasha is a rockstar. Placed a phone order for carry out at 6pm and had my order read back to me, given the total, and approximate time as well. Upon pick up, customers wait by the front door for payment and another employee sets the food outside on the table next to the door, so there is less contact and no need to go into the dining area. All the items were accounted for, with sauces and seasonings too. They were labeled which helped to know what entree was for whom. Plenty of signs about rules on masks and social distancing, as well as diners being separated. The meals were hot and fresh, really hit the spot for the burger cravings. A great stop on a hot summer day. I enjoyed perfectly done wings with a salad--satisfying pub food. My son has been eyeing the UFO burger with bacon, cheese, and thin onion rings--it was worth the wait, juicy and full of natural beef flavor. This is a nice friendly "Mac Club" as we call it, with copper clad tables and several large family sized tables. Staff is first rate, and service is also. As a plus for spicy sauce fans, they carry Ardvaark Habenero sauce, which is a local legend in Portland. Outdoor tables under and overhang with natural gas heaters keep the patio comfortable just about all year round. Menus is standard McMen's so you can count on daily soup, hummus playters, Capt. So it seems like the one thing all McMenamins have in common is their super awesome tater tots. Pretty sure they are amazing at every single one of the chain restaurants. This location had chicken fingers on the menu (with tater tots and coleslaw) so I got that because I'm a big chicken finger fan. The coleslaw sucked, but for some reason no one in the northwest can actually make good coleslaw. The chicken fingers were not the best I've had but not the worst. The chicken part was good, and the breading was good, but they didn't go together well. The breading was more like a hushpuppy or falafel breading instead of the flaky crisp I like on a chicken ginger. Their peppercorn ranch is also fantastic. My husband got the burger with a fried egg and pretty much demolished it before I could even ask how good it was. He pretty much just did a thumbs up with burger all over his face, so that was a success. They had more cider options and this location and even my favorite Ciderboys on tap, so that was nice to see. Their prices are still a little much, but again, id come back just for the tots! Maybe the burgers are the best things to order and I should just stick to those and tots for the future. read more

Mcmenamin's is a staple in the area. They have some unique locations, but this was just a standard restaurant. It was very dated. The table tops were sticky from the poly used on them. We got the gyros and el diablo chicken sandwich. Gyro was a good portion size. Was all beef and came with fries. The chicken sandwich was typical, but I enjoyed the toppings on it. Wasn't anything special. The fries are freshly made every day. They cut them themselves and then fry them until they're dark, but they're not to my liking. I enjoy beer battered fries the most. However, my sister loved these fries, so it's whatever you like the best. They have a decent assortment of brews. You are likely to find one you like. You can ask for tastes to find one that suits you. Service is good here and if you come here often they will get to know you :) My rating scale: 1=don't go there 2=OK, but there are better places 3=good 4=excellent 5=Michelin level IMO (may or may not have Michelin star) read more

I've been to a bunch of McMenamins and of course, am familiar with their generally sub-par service. It's part of the...charm? However, this one should step up their game as they have none of the perks of Edgefield, Kennedy School, etc. It's in a STRIP MALL. First off, it took forever to even be acknowledged after we sat down. To the point that we had to go up to the bar to get any attention. The servers then ARGUED over who would help our table. Really? In front of the customer no less, awesome. And they were out of pizza dough. On a Friday. Like I said, with neat ones like Kennedy School and whatnot, this one just isn't worth it. read more

WHAT I LEARNED THIS SUMMER: The last time I popped in for a bite and beer I recalled why I don't come here as often as I used to: I learned! I learned that service is slow irregardless of the number of customers. I learned that I don't care for the amount of salt that is used in their food prep - especially overwhelming amount in their soup (reminds me of eating at a place where the cooks are all chain smokers). Always underwhelmed by the interior decor which reminds me of a run down Godfather's Pizza circa 1985. Don't get me started on the happy hour crowd that hangs out here and thinks it's still cool. Wake up. I finally learned that aside from the couple cool concert venues they own, the McMenamins brothers have seen their better days and the last of me.
