A dark moody bar located near the central shopping district with odd hours. This one opens late afternoon and is scheduled to stay open late into the night. However, 2 hours early the staff shut down the small dining area. Leaving customers packed into an uncozy space. The staff looked stressed and was overtly short on words. Thankfully our waitress was a one off. The food was cold and the old fashion was pretty awful (despite requesting my bourbon by name). Establishment definitely has potential if the staff can deliver.

On our tulip farm trip, we unexpectedly stopped by The Westgate at 09:00 PM and were impressed! Right at the entrance to your right there's a bottle shop with an outstanding selection of spirits & better yet, for a $3 fee, you can enjoy your pick with your dinner. The service stood out just as much and was kind, polite, attentive, and lightning fast. Laura Y. made our experience memorable with her professionalism and genuinely positive, spot on attitude. The space has a classy feel with brick walls and dim lighting (which sometimes made it hard to see the details of your dish). There's also a separate hall with three pool tables if you're looking for a more private setting. The food menu is short and well made, featuring a range "we liked" dishes like the Wagyu burger, the Farmboy salad, and Rick Reuben sandwich, where each was sliced and shared. As for the drinks, the menu is the kind you actually sit and explore for a while, so you better know what you want. Overall it's a great spot to enjoy quality food, awesome drinks from all over the world (Czech beers, 40 year old Spanish Porto), and a fun, relaxed time with your friends.

Came here for a date night with my husband since the menu had something for each of our cravings. We made sure to come early since we knew it would end up packed on a Saturday. By 6pm we had one of the last tables in the place. The food menu is short. One page with everything from burgers, to salads, to steak. The cocktail and drink menu was a book. It took my husband a bit to look through all of the offerings. My husband ordered the Wagh Burger for his entree. I wanted steak so I picked the ribeye. The food didn't take long and it was presented nicely. My steak wasn't impressive and the seasonal veggie was a bit underwhelming. The garlic mash was incredible. My husband said his burger was great. They cooked it to his preferred medium rare perfectly. The fries and aioli were also great. I'd recommend coming here for the amazing sandwiches and burgers over the other entrees. There is a an area at the front where you can buy different beers and ciders. The selection was massive.

Didn't eat, as they were out of chicken and tacos. Ordered virgin Capri Sun. Ordered a second Bartender put all alcohol in a glass for my friend. But, something was in my drink. I passed out for 3 hours.

The staff was genuinely friendly and professional, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite hit for us. The pesto pasta in particular was overwhelming, it tasted like eating straight pesto, with far too much sauce for the dish. The menu also felt a bit all over the place, and nothing really stood out as something we'd come back for food-wise. That said, it does seem like a decent spot for drinks, and I'd consider returning for a nice cocktail or a tasting rather than a full meal.

Such an amazing space with walls of wine and alcohol making it an amazing space Food is excellent. Appetizers were so delicious. One of a few places open up to midnight Beaverton. Great place to go after a show at the so you're not stuck in the parking lot for an hour. Everything else around here seems to close at nine.

If you enjoy bourbon, this is the go-to spot in the Bevearton area! They offer a flight of bourbons to sample, and there are also several good cocktails to try alongside the bourbon. It tends to get pretty packed during dinner hours, so it's a good idea to make a reservation if you're coming with a large group. The food was quite tasty, although there weren't many options for traditional American cuisine.

There was about a 40 minute wait on a Sat night during holiday season. The food and drinks are worth the wait. We were celebrating my husband's birthday with our friends. We enjoyed a couple rounds of tasty cocktails and some delicious appetizers ( sweet pita gnocchi and cheese curds) before we ordered the main event. Hubbs ordered the clam and chorizo pasta and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the huge pork chop with parsnip puree and it was delicious. I have plenty of leftovers for another day. Our friends enjoyed their meals and drinks as well. Another win for this place!

I am not a bar food type of gal, but a friend recommended it as a dinner place. So why not? My only criteria for a food place was: new to me. Which this was! I was pleasantly surprised by the place. We were greeted promptly; no wait for a Saturday 6:30pm dinner service. I was mostly intrigued by the menu; who came up with those names? I can sit here all day reading and giggling about it. Very creative. For my boring self, I ordered the "madmartigan". It came with a patty, portabella, bacon, swiss, greens, tomato, and herb aioli WITH A SIDE of handcut fries. Score! I love me some fries. After ordering, the food came to our table of 4 pretty quickly. Pretty decent portion for the price. I demolished 1/2 the burger and ate all the fries with honey mustard. Food was served on a big plate, neatly presented, and our server was great. He checked in with us from time to time and kept our water refilled. The place had good ambience for a chill, low-key Saturday night for friends who hadn't seen each other in months. I do love their open kitchen concept, where you can "see" the chefs. Cute place. They have their own parking spot for customers. Cash or card accepted AND they were able to split the bill by couple, which was convenient.

The drinks here are amazing! The girl with the green eyes was one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. The fried cheese curds were good. The gnocchi was just ok. The clams were some of the best clams I've ever had! My husbands burger was amazing as well

e stopped by for an early birthday dinner with close friends, and The Westgate definitely did not disappoint! It had been a couple of years since our last visit, but the food and ambiance were great, proving it's still a top-notch spot. Service was friendly and great, making the entire evening enjoyable. The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy, and for spirits enthusiasts, they have an amazing selection of liquor to choose from; more than a dozen pages listing them all out! I kicked things off with the cocktail, "His Name Is Robert Paulson," which was indeed spicy as promised! For appetizers, we got the "Sweet Potato Gnocchi," which had fantastic flavor (though slightly dense/gummy in my opinion), and the "Cheese Curds," which never fail to satisfy. Dinner was the incredibly flavorful "Clam and Chorizo Pasta"--make sure to grab some bread to sop up all that delicious sauce! We finished by sharing the "Hazelnut Brown Butter Cake," which I loved, though it got mixed reviews from the rest of the table. Beyond the main area, they also have a bottle shop out front that offers a huge selection of beer and wine to purchase and take home, plus a separate room with billiard tables, darts, and shuffleboard for some fun. Can't wait to go back; it definitely won't be another two years before we do!

Does Katie work there? Did she type out "You're an Asshole" of the customer's receipt or is there a prefilled out menu item for this?

No, Katie would *never* write that on someone's check. We have a cocktail named 'You're an A**hole, Mr. Burton', which was ordered by the table. It's too long of a name to print on the receipt so it gets shortened to 'You're an A**hole'. It is…

[Format & Space] Seat yourself*, review the menus at the table, order at the bar, they bring your food and drinks to your table. *Plenty of tables, some with long benches, others with chairs on the inside. There's also a large patio. This is a welcome and safe space. [Drinks] Right up front, I'm going to tell you I'm a lightweight. I'm allergic to alcohol, so I don't drink often. Here's one of the things I love about The 649. They have a fantastic selection of mocktails that are created with the same creativity, flair, and intention as a "leaded" cocktail. I appreciate that I get to participate and not be stuck with a lemonade, zero alcohol beer, or wine. So, HUZZAH for creating an inviting space for a non-drinker! There *are* times when I'm willing to risk the lobster-bod, itchiness, and stuffy nose and there are plenty of cocktails from which to choose! [Food] There's a nice selection of sharable plates and mains. I've personally tried the flatbread pizza, Bavarian pretzel, Cubano, and Brisket Press, all of which were delish. [Service] The service has always been fabulous. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. [Activities] There are a few TVs around the bar with sports. It was a great place to catch some of the World Cup games. Additionally, there are several games that you can borrow and play, which is a lot of fun. [Location] Tucked in a busy shopping center with Safeway as an anchor. Parking hasn't been super problematic yet, but based on one of the other reviewers (Ron R - loved your formatting too, so I borrowed it until we get rich text formatting or emojis!) I can see where it could be a challenge.

Because it's somewhat hidden in the corner of a Safeway shopping plaza. Look for the Baskin Robbins or Wells Fargo ATM and your find it. Like other reviews, when busy, parking can be a bit horrendous. But in hindsight, I'm not gonna reduce a star just because of location. * Bar Food Menu & Dining * Their menu starts with shareable bites, like a pretzel, tacos, quesadilla, loaded nachos, and even a charcuterie plate. Slightly larger dishes would be their Cubano and Brisket Press sandwiches. They even have a few choices for soup and salads, and a couple of dessert items listed. Don't forget to check the chalkboard next to the bar for specialty dishes and drinks. As for dining-in, they've got sturdy wooden tables that can accommodate 4-8 people. Bar stools by the windows, and a fairly large outside patio area. And with the times I've been here, I've never seen a dirty table. Very well maintained (two thumbs up). A few TV monitors showing the game, but its not like a noisy sportsbar. * Drinks & Services* You've got your choice of craft beers that rotate like a standard tap room. They also have tasty seasonal cocktails, but their normal everyday cocktails are just as good. And if you're gonna have a charcuterie board, then you've got to offer a wine list option right? Well they got that too! One last thing to mention, they've got some top-shelf bourbon and whiskey. The 649 is a bar that offers it all! Service has also been welcoming and top-notch. I recall only been served by Rich, Steven, and Crystal, but they always seem to craft up some lovely cocktails. Or deliver some clean tasting everyday type of bar food as well. * Last Call * Normally in my reviews, I'd list every item that I've tried, with price included. But The 649 is such a unique type of bar experience that I feel you should try for yourself; To me, their offerings are reasonably priced. Dining in is nothing fancy, but service is excellent. It's a great hangout for a business date, of even after a first date. I've got nothing but love for local support!

I've been waiting for an establishment like this to show up on the west side for over 20 years. So happy I found Wax social.

If you only hit one craft cocktail bar on your visit to Portland, make it this one…read more Wax Social is a speakeasy and vinyl listening lounge tucked inside a Best Western in the West Hills.. and I mean that in the best way possible. Super moody lighting, hundreds of framed musician photos covering every wall, warm comfortable seating, and a custom hi-fi sound system that will rearrange your expectations for what a speakeasy bar and listening lounge can be. It's a hidden gem in the most literal sense: no signage on the outside and nothing to tip you off as you enter the building. To find Wax Social you walk through the hotel lobby at 9900 SW Canyon Rd, up a staircase left of the registration desk, and look around until you find a frosted glass door marked "Listening Lounge." Open it. You'll be glad you did. Start with the cocktails. The menu is split between elevated timeless classics and original house creations, and both sections of this cocktail menu can bang. The King of Pain is rum-forward and finished with an orange coconut foam that looks as good as it tastes. The Watermelon Man showcases Japanese gin and elderflower in a refreshing and complex profile that's hard not to love. The Sweetest Taboo is a mezcal drink built around blue maize, red bell pepper, pineapple, and lime that hits that rare combination of bold and perfectly balanced. Light My Fire brings blanco tequila and Ancho Reyes together with habanero bitters for real depth. If you want to wander off-menu, they can handle that flawlessly too. Over several visits I've enjoyed a Paper Plane, Tommy's Margarita, Gimlet, Last Word, Too Soon, and others, all executed perfectly. On one visit, the guy next to me at the bar was visiting Portland from Sweden and ordered a Flip. I've been to a lot of craft cocktail bars and never heard someone order one. Clayton, one of the bartenders, didn't blink. Went right to work making a luxurious Flip from memory that the customer couldn't stop raving about. I was impressed. Clayton is also working on several rum-forward cocktails coming to the menu later this summer - I love rum drinks enough to say that sitting at the bar talking shop and the concepts he's tinkering with is worth a visit on its own. Full mocktail lineup, plus wine, bubbles, and craft beers. Now about the sound system. DJs spin all-vinyl sets of funk, soul, R&B, and deep cuts across decades on a custom hi-fi setup that sounds absolutely incredible. Even when the DJ is in full flow and the music is turned up, you can still hold an easy conversation with a group of six or eight people. I've been there with a large group in the back corner on couches and comfortable chairs and everyone kept commenting on it. The music is present and powerful and somehow never swallows the laughter and conversation happening around you. They clearly built this bar around the music. The food is a genuine surprise for a craft cocktail lounge. Think small plates/tapas in terms of dining style: you come for the drinks and next thing you know you've ordered half the menu, made a dinner of it, and somehow backed into a beautiful evening of food, drink, and music. Must-orders: ahi poke nachos, deviled eggs, braised pork gnocchi. Don't overlook the shaved asparagus and white bean salad with sherry vinaigrette, Manchego, and crispy shallots. Simple and elegant and every bit as good as the more indulgent plates. Steak bites and shrimp are worth ordering too. Bring friends so you can order more and share. Owners Sean and Travis are present most nights, greeting you at the door and checking in at your table. That care shows in everything here, including a staff that knows how to read the room. A few things worth knowing: parking is easy, the location is simple to reach from Portland or Beaverton, and the bathrooms are spotless. Open late on weekends. Whether you're planning a romantic date night in Portland, a special occasion, a group night out, or just a solo evening at the bar with someone who really knows cocktails, this is your spot. Among the best craft cocktail and listening lounge experiences in the greater Portland metro area. You've gotta check it out.
