On the statutory question asking if I had ever been refused or rejected entry to Canada or any other country, I answered NO-because that's what my previous agent told me to do. I actually had a U.S. visitor visa refusal, but I was assured it "wouldn't show up" and that Canada wouldn't see it. Surprisingly, my student visa was approved. Later, when I needed to extend my student status, ! applied on my own (DIY). That's when I discovered that Canada and U.S. DO share immigration information. I realized how lucky I was the first time. Since I couldn't afford a lawyer at that time, I kept the same answer for consistency, even though it stressed me out every time. This continued through my PGWP as well. But everything changed when it was time to apply for Permanent Residency. The background check is extremely thorough, I knew they would eventually see the U.S. refusal. And I also knew for a fact that this could be grounds for misrepresentation, which could have sent us home and resulted in a five-year ban. That's when I contacted JCA for help.
