Right off the bat, he was friendly and genuine -- he bowed to me, smiled, and apologized for keeping me waiting! I went to their Union St. office and met with Barbara, who is the manager and is so professional and sweet. I am very light sensitive and when I went into the room with Dr. Bocci, he was very accommodating to me. He told me I could have them removed and they will never come back again. I was more than relieved. We set the date for the surgery. He is quite professional and a very competent doctor. The surgery was quick and amazingly seamless. He told me, "The comfort of the patient is very important to me during surgery." This was done in Daly City. When went back to the office, he took off the bandage and I shouted, "Hallelujah!" I could see again. We scheduled the next eye to be done and that was very successful, also. This eye was done in SF at St. Mary's. He suggested in the other eye that I have a small amount of near eye site in the new lens, so I could read a menu without my reading glasses and that has been a big help! Now, I have 20/20 vision again. I am an artist and couldn't see the difference in the colors anymore but everything is perfect now. My experience with Bernd Kutzscher, MD in 2019 was a nightmare. Dr. Kutzscher should have honored…read morehis Hippocratic Oath and performed an eye exam as he was paid to do, billing insurance under the doctors' name while ignorant technicians are the ones doing the work of the MD is wrong, perhaps he should retire if he is tired of performing eyes exams. The technician assessed my eyes through an array of lenses and enter her data in the computer, Dr. Kutzscher came into the room, exchange pleasantries and signed off on the RX without preforming an eye exam. The new RX had a huge change and I was concerned. I bought 2 pairs (clear/dark = $1,400) of glasses with Kutzscher's optician. It took 4 weeks to get the glasses and when I got them, I had a horrendous pain in the eye with the huge change on the RX and had a hard time reading/seeing. I called several times to speak with Dr. Kutzscher, he finally returned my call and said my eyes needed to adjust to the new lenses and agreed to see me three weeks later. Once more the technician assessed my eyes through some lenses and asked me to read some charts which I did with lots of errors but she said it didn't matter. Dr. Kutzscher walked in the room read her notes in the computer and said to keep using the glasses until my eyes adjusted to the change, without performing an eye exam or regard for the pain that I was suffering. I asked him to change the RX, he said there is nothing wrong with the RX, but how does he know if he never performed the eye exam. He should have honored their re-do policy as offered at the time of purchase if the glasses didn't work. The office staff and the optician are very rude, perhaps they believe if they intimidate the clients, they get paid and the problem goes away. Five months later, since the pain continued and I couldn't read or see I went back to my previous eye MD, a true gem, who stands by his work. The doctor performed a comprehensive eye exam and said the pain on my eye was due to the wrong prescription. He assessed my eyes and wrote a new RX. He said if there is any problem, he will re-do my glasses at "no cost". My new RX was a gift sent from heaven I was able to see and read without pain.

The doctor himself had great manners, took his time to really understand my symptoms (unlike another ophthalmologist I had seen in the past who rushed me), and was also making conversation getting to know me and such. He was super friendly and professional but had to knock off a star due to wait time. My appointment was scheduled for 1:30PM and I waited until 2:20PM before he got to me. Probably because he is chatty and likes to get to know his patients...so scratch that I'm giving back the star. 5 STARS! Highly recommend!

Dr. Hoyt is a brilliant doctor who is #1 in the world for his field. He can look at you and pretty…read moremuch know exactly what is wrong in moments. Unfortunately, due to his enormously busy schedule, the knowledge of what is wrong with you and how to fix you is waved in your face right out of your reach. This is beyond frustrating because you are desperately trying to get your pain to go away, and you know he knows how to fix you, but you cannot get enough information from him in order to know how to get the pain to go away. Trying to get in touch with him is a game of phone tag. You have to leave a message on his voicemail and hope his assistant will triage you high enough so you will get a call back. Leaving a message saying, "I did the thing you told me to, and now I am in a lot more pain. I now have zero productivity. What do you recommend I should do next?" will not get you a call back. Once you do get a call back and talk to his assistant, you have to hope Dr. Hoyt wrote explicitly in your records the same follow up instructions he had verbally told you, or that his assistant can understand the problem you are having and the needs you require. If neither is true, nothing will happen next because the assistant won't know what to do with you. The assistant will promise to consult Dr. Hoyt about what to do with you, but two weeks later and you call back and the assistant still has no idea what to do with you. I have tried taking the small amount of information Dr. Hoyt has provided me about my condition and researching it so I can try to fix it myself, but it is tremendously difficult because the condition is in my eyes. It is enormously difficult to read, and it is enormously difficult to hold information in my head because my head hurts so much. Plus, the eyes and the brain are extremely complicated to understand in the first place. It is costing me a lot of time and money in trial and error as I try to continue the experiments Dr. Hoyt started but never got around to completing. I have gone to numerous doctors before Dr. Hoyt, and they either had absolutely no idea what was wrong with me, or did not believe there was something actually wrong with me. Since no other doctor has had any idea what is wrong with me, I don't know where else to turn. I am so incredibly grateful that Dr. Hoyt exists because he knows what is wrong with me, I just wish I could get access to that information so I could get better.
