Not only did he respect our design choices, but he also worked with us to improve on our suggested sketches and made touch ups that I believe helped to create the perfect memorial. He worked with me each step of the way and installed the final monument with respect to our timeline. I fully recommend his services.

When we first arrived, we were greeted by Mercedes, who was incredibly pleasant, compassionate, and professional. She took the time to patiently help my mother and me plan my father's funeral. She never rushed us in any way and always made us feel that our needs and wishes were important. She listened to us, answered all of our questions, and helped guide us through the many decisions that had to be made during such a difficult and emotional time. We truly felt that she cared about helping us create a beautiful and meaningful funeral for my father and making sure everything went smoothly. Interestingly, my brother's funeral was held in the exact same building about 10 years ago, although at that time it was operating under a different business name. I didn't realize it was the same location until my mother mentioned how much updating and remodeling had been done. The difference was remarkable. The facility was clean, bright, welcoming, and pleasant--nothing like the dark and dreary place I remembered from my brother's service 10 years earlier. The improvements to the facility made a tremendous difference and created a much more comforting environment for our family and our guests. On the day of the viewing, we were greeted by two gentlemen, Angel and Joseph. Both were very kind, understanding of our needs, and extremely professional. They immediately made us feel comfortable and reassured us that everything would be taken care of. The viewing went very smoothly, and the setup of the main chapel was beautiful and tastefully done. Angel and Joseph went above and beyond to make sure everything was just the way we wanted it. One thing that really stood out to us was when they went out of their way to purchase the correct cable adapter so that the television could be connected to my computer for the memorial slideshow I had created for my father's viewing. It may seem like a small detail, but during such an emotional and difficult time, having them take that extra step to make sure everything worked properly meant so much to our family. It showed us that they genuinely cared about making the day special for us. The day of my father's Mass and burial went just as smoothly as clockwork, again with the help and guidance of Angel and Joseph. They were there every step of the way, making sure everything was coordinated properly and that our family knew what to expect. Their calm, compassionate, and professional manner helped make an incredibly difficult day much easier for all of us. We couldn't have been happier with the way everything went. From the initial planning with Mercedes to the viewing, Mass, and burial with the help of Angel and Joseph, we felt that our family was in caring and capable hands. Everyone we dealt with was compassionate, friendly, patient, respectful, and professional from beginning to end. My father told my family that it was important honors would be presented when the time came. Brigitte also requested a riffle volley since he was retiree. We are especially thankful for Brigitte! A longtime business of over 100 years across from the old city (Masonic) cemetery, this business offers multiple options at many different price points and customization options for a gravestone/memorial monument. I visited two times on my own and was ably helped by Christy D. Christy was so kind and patient and gave me estimates for a custom headstone as well as a couple of other stock/standard headstones. It was a struggle at the time trying to get everyone's input in the family and I got overwhelmed trying to make the ultimate decision. The third time my Dad came with me to an appointment and we were finally ready to commit and make a decision. We were able to choose a custom bronze monument and I chose a blue granite base that we found out weighed 2 tons (yes, it was the most expensive option and I was not surprised, I make a beeline for the best). Christy was familiar with the guidelines at the cemetery where mom is buried. She spent a lot of time building us a template and then had a photo proof for approval via email shortly after. She even noted a discrepancy that I had missed and made sure everything was exactly as we wanted. Christy's kindness, patience, sensitivity, and detail-oriented business acumen was so exceptional. We will never forget her wonderful approach to this challenging work. We were consistently updated via email regarding the order and when the monument was installed. Payment for our custom stone was required in full once final approval was made. Note, it took 5 months from ordering to completion but it was completed a month earlier than the initial six month estimate. We chose a photo for the monument as well as an inset vase for flowers. In the end, I'm glad I visited another monument company and decided without hesitation to return to Ruhkala. My dad and I could not be more pleased with the outcome, the professionalism, and the beauty of the final product that will stand as a tribute and memorial to my mom's life. The Broadway location, although a small corner lot adjacent to Midtown Sacramento (on the same side of street/ across from Sellands) has extensive examples of headstones both inside and outside to look at in person, in addition to thick photo albums displaying a catalogue of installed monuments. Prices are as low as $900 for a simple recessed monument to I would imagine no limit based on what is desired. There is also a larger showroom in Rocklin. From what I understand Ruhkala has a granite quarry in Rocklin as well and they provide many of the stones to other local monument companies.

The secretary seems to know more about the business and tasks that need to be done. When calling to check the status of picking up my husband's body, I was told by Mr. Wallace, we don't call the loved ones when transporting the body go their facility. We just do our job. It is very unprofessional and has no empathy for others during a difficult time. This was definitely the opposites of what his employee started.

A day or two before the service they they opened an online obituary portal at their home page that allowed folks to leave well-wishes online. The comments are vetted before being published (authorization completed by the family of the deceased). The day of service was extremely hard, but the funeral home was absolutely professional and there was not oddities to report. The location of the funeral home was reasonable to get to--parking limited, but manageable. It was a hot day, but they had the air conditioning set to a chill level (making sense for open caskets). I don't mean to sound clinical about this review, especially when so much emotion can go into why you are there, but in the end. The funeral home was clean, provided for everybody that came to pay their respects. Prior to the service they cycled photos and/ or video reflecting memories of my friend and his family that survived him. I can't address pricing, but I heard the average cost of a funeral can easily run around 15K, and the lavatory I don't know because I didn't use it. The initial room where you first walk in is furnished nicely and to be honest it was a good area to take little ones that aren't able to sit long during the service. The area allows you to still hear what's going, limits the noise the main hall hears, and keeps you out of immediate line of sight. Anyway, if you have to use services like this, North Sacramento Funeral Home is professional and does it correct.
