Our overall experience with Yolo Funeral and Cremation was excellent. From the very beginning to…read morethe very end, we were treated with compassion, kindness, understanding, and professionalism. When we first arrived, we were greeted by Mercedes, who was incredibly pleasant, compassionate, and professional. She took the time to patiently help my mother and me plan my father's funeral. She never rushed us in any way and always made us feel that our needs and wishes were important. She listened to us, answered all of our questions, and helped guide us through the many decisions that had to be made during such a difficult and emotional time. We truly felt that she cared about helping us create a beautiful and meaningful funeral for my father and making sure everything went smoothly. Interestingly, my brother's funeral was held in the exact same building about 10 years ago, although at that time it was operating under a different business name. I didn't realize it was the same location until my mother mentioned how much updating and remodeling had been done. The difference was remarkable. The facility was clean, bright, welcoming, and pleasant--nothing like the dark and dreary place I remembered from my brother's service 10 years earlier. The improvements to the facility made a tremendous difference and created a much more comforting environment for our family and our guests. On the day of the viewing, we were greeted by two gentlemen, Angel and Joseph. Both were very kind, understanding of our needs, and extremely professional. They immediately made us feel comfortable and reassured us that everything would be taken care of. The viewing went very smoothly, and the setup of the main chapel was beautiful and tastefully done. Angel and Joseph went above and beyond to make sure everything was just the way we wanted it. One thing that really stood out to us was when they went out of their way to purchase the correct cable adapter so that the television could be connected to my computer for the memorial slideshow I had created for my father's viewing. It may seem like a small detail, but during such an emotional and difficult time, having them take that extra step to make sure everything worked properly meant so much to our family. It showed us that they genuinely cared about making the day special for us. The day of my father's Mass and burial went just as smoothly as clockwork, again with the help and guidance of Angel and Joseph. They were there every step of the way, making sure everything was coordinated properly and that our family knew what to expect. Their calm, compassionate, and professional manner helped make an incredibly difficult day much easier for all of us. We couldn't have been happier with the way everything went. From the initial planning with Mercedes to the viewing, Mass, and burial with the help of Angel and Joseph, we felt that our family was in caring and capable hands. Everyone we dealt with was compassionate, friendly, patient, respectful, and professional from beginning to end. Losing a loved one is never easy, and planning a funeral while grieving can be overwhelming. Mercedes, Angel, Joseph, and the entire team at Yolo Funeral and Cremation helped make this difficult experience much easier for our family. They took care of the details, listened to our wishes, and made sure my father received the beautiful and dignified farewell he deserved. We are truly grateful for everything Yolo Funeral and Cremation did for our family. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a funeral home where their loved one will be treated with care, compassion, dignity, and respect. Our family could not have asked for a better experience during such a difficult time.

It was a very difficult time for us, and their kindness and professionalism meant more than we can truly express! The service for my father was handled with so much care and respect. My father was an Air Force veteran, and we deeply appreciated the help we received in arranging for him to be laid to rest at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. All the details and coordination were taken care of for us, which lifted a tremendous weight off our shoulders. It brought us comfort knowing he would receive the honors he earned. My father told my family that it was important honors would be presented when the time came. Brigitte also requested a riffle volley since he was retiree. We are especially thankful for Brigitte! She never made us feel rushed or pressured and did not push or upsell services. Instead, she listened carefully and helped us make decisions that felt right for our family. Everything was clearly explained (there was no surprises), and we felt supported in making choices that stayed within our budget while still honoring my father in a meaningful way. Yolo staff were also very kind and attentive to our family and friends who attended the service. We also noticed the care that has gone into the facility. They have taken over the location that was formerly Woodland Chapel, and the renovations they did are beautiful. The space feels clean, updated, and comforting. Big improvement to the building inside was done very well!!! Thank you again! The Martinez family

    Davis Cemetery District & Arboretum

Davis Cemetery District is a cemetery burial site in Davis, CA. that has been in existence for…read moreclose to 150 years. Yolo county residents receive a reduced cost for a burial plot with proof of residence and/or property taxation, those outside of the district can still utilize the services but with additional cost. Davis is now known as a college town but its historical agricultural roots run deep. This cemetery is located on what was formerly the outskirts of town surrounded by farms. There are a few fields left that haven't succumbed to the developers' bulldozers, but while the now residential neighborhood is part of bustling Davis, behind the cemetery gates lies a peaceful resting place for generations. The lush plantings, heritage trees, and grassy knolls have status as an arboretum; people can bike and walk through the grounds. When my mom passed this summer, through a circuitous set of circumstances we discovered this cemetery. It was the place that resonated as the closest to a peaceful Midwestern cemetery and honored my mom's roots. Judy was very helpful in arranging the grounds tour and site selection this summer. Available by phone, email, and in person consultation, she has an excellent manner for this difficult work with an air of earned competence and attention to detail. She helped make arrangements for the graveside burial service which we had in addition to a chapel service off-site at the funeral home. Pricing was clear and fair. There are events throughout the year including an on site art gallery, Dia de Los Muertos, and the option to have a wreath or solar lantern placed graveside at Christmas/holiday season. The historic nature of the cemetery, peaceful environment, and beautiful grounds make for a valued community resource that is available during the difficult process of death and funeral planning.

I am giving it 5 stars however for some of the really old, beatifully crafted, angel statues that hover over some of the headstones. I remember a particular semi rainy, drizzly night where I took my 4x5 camera, my housemate's cigarette lighter powered spotlight and took some great 15 minute bulb exposure photographs of these angels. As I was in the middle of this the police showed up probably thinking we were pillaging the graves or something. So after briefly trying to explain my photography project we tipped them off to the group of teenagers getting wasted about 300 feet away. Sorry guys, I had to get the PO-PO off my back.

A day or two before the service they they opened an online obituary portal at their home page that allowed folks to leave well-wishes online. The comments are vetted before being published (authorization completed by the family of the deceased). The day of service was extremely hard, but the funeral home was absolutely professional and there was not oddities to report. The location of the funeral home was reasonable to get to--parking limited, but manageable. It was a hot day, but they had the air conditioning set to a chill level (making sense for open caskets). I don't mean to sound clinical about this review, especially when so much emotion can go into why you are there, but in the end. The funeral home was clean, provided for everybody that came to pay their respects. Prior to the service they cycled photos and/ or video reflecting memories of my friend and his family that survived him. I can't address pricing, but I heard the average cost of a funeral can easily run around 15K, and the lavatory I don't know because I didn't use it. The initial room where you first walk in is furnished nicely and to be honest it was a good area to take little ones that aren't able to sit long during the service. The area allows you to still hear what's going, limits the noise the main hall hears, and keeps you out of immediate line of sight. Anyway, if you have to use services like this, North Sacramento Funeral Home is professional and does it correct.
