She'll walk you to the next room or to chemo. For some people, I am sure this feels really good. The problem is when something goes wrong or if you have different needs. From a medical standpoint, she delayed my surgery by months while I took AIs only. That delay increased my risk of recurrence. I am sure she could now backpedal and claim some BS reason for that, but there is no good excuse. Nor did we have a real discussion about it. I think she assumed I was afraid of surgery. I was not. I wanted to get this done and over asap. With her forced persona, she does not see the individual patient; she sees who she expects you to be. When what you say does not fit her limited view, she disregards it or she'll make fun of you for it. If you have major side effects from chemo, radiation, surgery or meds, her toolbox is almost empty. Again she falls back on her faux compassion, but she does not look for better medical options. If you end up hospitalized after each chemo, don't expect anything beyond her saying how she knows it is hard for you, a hand on your knee, and "don't worry; we'll get through this together." Better doctors evaluate the individual patient, take into account their medical issues, and form a plan. It may not resolve everything, but they try. She does not try. She is exceptionally lazy, taking the easiest treatment path for her without ever looking into options. I passed out in the office due to extremely low blood pressure from dehydration. The nurse congratulated me on my "little nap." When I told the doctor about this, I was called "dramatic" and "ridiculous". She laughed at me. If you have a cancer that responds well to standard treatment and you are able to handle those treatments well, you'll be fine. If you are someone who does not react well to fake sincerity or, if you have major issues and want real answers and options, she is not for you. I am in a support group. We had an assignment to draw our monster. The counselor expected us to draw a vision of our cancer. I realized I was drawing Dr. Jeske. I survived the cancer. She was the monster in my story because of all of the times I was mocked, belittled, and infantilized, the poor quality of care she actually provided, and her continuing to do things that I explicitly asked her to not do.

The doctor is truly a specialist in her field of endocrinology. She has years of experience and knows her field well. She has worked so closely with my sister-in-law to monitor and track her diabetic condition, made recommendations, modified prescriptions and adjusted amounts; really tailored the specific needs of my sister-in-law. Dr. Smilo knows how to work with patients one-on-one with their specific diabetic condition. Folks with diabetes are at different stages. And even different needs at the same stages. The bottom line, my sister-in-law first went to Dr. Smilo last year, very concerned and stressed with her health. All her related levels were high and she was at Type II diabetes. Dr. Smilo has worked so closely with her, recently brought down my sister-in-law to PRE-DIABETIC condition. Dr. Smilo is a miracle worker. She's patient, understanding, listens well, but drills you to follow her guidelines to accomplish the goals; the end results to achieve a healthy patient to better deal with or eliminate the critical stages of diabetes. She might be old-school in some ways. I would like to see some methods and patient tasks more automated like patient/doctor tracking of readings/recordings to a spreadsheet, visually graph data/results, more allowance for comments, with options to print. Same with medications to track; old, new, changes in amounts or types, reasons, dates. Spreadsheet graphs would visually track the progress and any noticeable changes, also reflecting modifications in meds. Can result in less hard copy paperwork/paper files and faxing. And can be emailed and saved to personal e-files. Including references and handouts. But still have the hard copy option for those without or not familiar with automated tools. Dr. Smilo has quite an extensive background and years of practice. Her professional accomplishments, evident, on the wall in her office. She is a specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes and metaboism. Her office summary of services mentioned includes diabetes management, abnormal lipids, high blood pressure and heart disease, treatment of acute illness for adults, weight management, and preventive medicine. Dr. Smilo was an associate Clinical Director at UCSF. And she was honored in 2011, being awarded TopDoc in San Francisco. If you want a thorough doctor who will achieve the results you want, Dr. Smilo is your endocrinologist or specialist, as mentioned, in other areas. My sister-in-law is happy with her first-hand experience and results. I can tell and am happy for her and my brother.

On every occasion they have engaged in behavior that was either rude or unprofessional. They berate each other in front of patients. They also berate patients. The woman at the office was quite rude because I called with a question at 4:50 and she made sure to let me know that she felt that was too late and that she didn't know if anyone could help me calling so late. I asked if she could take a message, and although it seemed to be quite a chore for her, she did take a message. The next day when I called back to check on whether it would be possible to get the referral I needed, she reminded me several times that since I'd called at almost 5pm, I couldn't really expect much. And, that I should be aware that the Dr. only works Tues and Wed so well... I'd just have to wait. This attitude continued on like that for the entire conversation. Dr. - fire your staff who have attitudes like this. I have no patience for being treated this way by someone I don't even know. By the way - the patient is the customer, and they are allowed to call whenever they can fit it into their day without being reprimanded rudely. And, if care is not going to be accessible from Thurs through Tues, than that's not going to work out well either. It isn't that hard to be civil on the phone. Not sure what this woman's problem is, but she really needs an attitude fix - this is the third time and it's 3 strikes you're out - I'll be looking to change to a new provider this time.

Even with all those appointments, as well as my not-quite-normal body structure (i am missing some organs and have one wierdly mis-shapen one) she can't ever seem to remember who I am or what I am in for. She also tries to prescribe prescription drugs even when i tell her that I do not want them and her office is damn near totally decorated with freebies from drug companies. She does, however, always seem to get me an appointment when I want it, even at the last minute. She has also given me all of the referrals that I have asked for, even if it took some reminding.

When i went for my back problem, i told her abt the shootimg pain i had in my lower back and she told me to have an advil. Serously? i am 26, and i am not supposed to have such pain, right? then i said, thats it? and she asked me if i wanted an x-ray. i said sure. That's it. I found a fantastic Chiropractor (Greg Carb) through a coworkers recommendation and he fixed my pain in just a couple of sittings. i brought up my inflamed knee. she told me to bend it. i did and she said. well you can move it. have an advil if it hurts. migraines, dizziness & black spots - oh. take an advil. not even a question if i'd suffered some injury or trauma.. or what's causing it. i said i had a migraine and described it - she said - oh its called a migraine. Birth control - advil? eh - no.. i asked her for a brand myself. and she called in the wrong one to the pharmacy. u get the drift right? i'm not going back

Told by Dr Lewis to my friend don't have a mastectomy you are too sensitive. my friend was never told she had a 87 percent chance of a new cancer or a reoccurrence for to the kind of very aggressive cancer and the inherited gene. Sure enough my friend got two new cancers. The latest in 2025 and in the opposite breast and new. My friend wanted to desperately reach out to Dr Lewis but was told never to return to her practice and Dr Lewis would never see my friend again. My friend was beyond devastated. Where was the compassion? My friend adored Dr Lewis but in the end my friend was stripped of her life.

I had a lumpectomy with Dr Grissom in 2021. She came highly recommended & I'd love to tell you it…read morewas a great experience. But it was actually violating on a few levels & left me feeling traumatized. Here's what happened: I was given Versed, an amnesia producing sedative, WITHOUT consent by Dr Goodman, the anesthesiologist working with Dr Grissom. This was a huge violation & while this wasn't Dr Grissom's doing, what happened after & how she handled it was horrible. Specifically, after being knocked unconscious without consent, Dr Grissom thought it was ok to then have a consent conversation with me about incision placement. How? Versed knocks the person (me) out & erases your memory, but allows you to be up & interacting with people, even if you have no memory of it. Nobody explained to me this was going to happen (let alone asked if I was ready to be given meds) but Dr Grissom knew it perfectly well & thought this was an acceptable time to have a truly important consent conversation with me. Once I recovered from surgery & realized what happened because my memory blacked out way before it should have, I wrote to Dr Grissom expressing my distress. She left me a voicemail saying how the anesthesiologist was trying to help me because I was "uptight" prior to surgery & that I must be a "lightweight" on meds. Yes, she really said this. When I later spoke to her & said there was no possible way I could have given her any useful information during our incision placement consent conversation as I was heavily drugged, she replied I "seemed fine." When I pushed & explained that waking up from this surgery felt like I'd been roofied, she got off the phone. At my follow up, she repeatedly said what a nice guy he was & deflected the opportunity to take responsibility. Perhaps she fears being sued? But her inability to own her part or say "That was wrong of us," left me feeling somewhere between disheartened & dehumanized. When you hire a surgeon, you're hiring someone to take good care of you. You don't get to meet their whole team ahead of time so you have to trust them. But if they don't & something happens & your surgeon then colludes with the person who violated your boundaries, gaslights you by saying you were uptight & a lightweight, doesn't take responsibility & instead repeatedly says what a nice guy he is & then shifts blame onto you - it only compounds my feeling of being violated. Suffice to say, it feels unethical to me that Dr. Grissom considers it acceptable for her patients to be drugged without their consent & then to have critical surgical consent conversations while patients are under the influence of sedatives that are so strong they produce amnesia. Two other things about CPMC & not Dr Grissom specifically: * I was led to believe there's an issue at CPMC of people being given Versed without consent. Prior to going into surgery at least two nurses told me that CPMC patients routinely ask if x, y, or z conversation or situation happened because they have no memory of it. The nurses explain that it did happen but they'd been given Versed so they don't remember. I'd been treated so well when I had surgery at UCSF the year before I very naively took this as an anecdotal story. But in hindsight, especially considering what happened, I believe they were trying to warn me. I'm grateful they tried - I only wish I'd had the ears to hear them. Dr Grissom poo-poo'ed this when I talked to her. But I've worked in a hospital & if multiple nurses are taking about something, it's happening. * It's difficult to file a patient grievance at CPMC. When I contacted CPMC the day after surgery to complain, everyone I spoke to said to contact my surgeon. But if your surgeon is part of the problem, what do you do? I scoured the website to find an electronic patient grievance form but there isn't one. I then called patient representatives. Amazingly, the first 2 didn't know how to handle a grievance. The third one did & found the address for me to send a letter to under item #22 in a list of patient rights, which is ridiculous. This should be clearly marked on the website's footer & patients should be offered an electronic form for ease & to confirm delivery. I sent a written complaint letter in 6/21 but as of 1/22, I haven't heard anything back. Also, I just checked their website & they've removed the address on item #22 & now say to call the hospital - I wish you more luck with that than I had. I've had surgery where I was treated very well. Where consent was clear. Where the surgeon ran a well organized team & every step of the process I was held in a way that fostered a feeling of security & respect. Where I felt grateful for the care I had, happy to pay the bill, & left the whole experience feeling genuinely better than I had before. My experience with Dr Grissom was the opposite. I'm grateful the mass was well removed from my breast. But on most other levels, I feel negatively impacted by this experience.
