Mcraven house... just a basic civil war house with a ghost story slant. Tour guide Brian is a true believer in the supernatural and loves his topic, though he is not a great storyteller. Our group had a good time despite the mixture of cynics and believers. However, when we were looking over some photos the next morning, we found a rather disturbing blurry figure behind one of us ( blond lady on left). A shadow, a trick of light, uh, uh... a ghost? I dunno, but the place is creepy.

McRaven: Voted Creepiest/Most Haunted House in Mississippi It was built in 3 sections, and each section of the house is still furnished true to the time period in which it was built. The first section was built in 1797, while George Washington was President and before MS was a state. It is the pioneer-style portion of the house with an upstairs bedroom and a kitchen underneath. Andrew Glass, who was known to rob travelers along the Natchez Trace, was its 1st owner and 1st death/murder in the home. Second, Sheriff Stephen Howard bought the house in 1836 and added a bedroom, a dining room and two-story covered porch. Mary Elizabeth, his 15-year-old wife, died during childbirth in the new bedroom. (She's supposed to be the most active spirit). In 1849 it was sold to John Bobb, who built the final section. He added another bedroom set above a parlor room, and an entryway with a grand front porch. McRaven was used as a field hospital during the Civil War. Bobb threw a rock at Union soldiers who were picking flowers out of his yard. Shortly after, Bobb went to the courthouse to inform Gen. Henry W. Slocum of his actions. The apology was accepted, but as Bobb walked home, he was met down the street by a firing squad of Union soldiers who killed him.

Melanie was our host! She was so sweet and very informative. You can tell she truly enjoys giving the tour. My husband and I took the history tour. We were 10 minutes late but Melanie caught us up and we really enjoyed it. We even had an experience with a ghost.

We accidentally booked the historical tour instead of the haunted tour. But I guess the haunted one is at night usually and we drove in from Louisiana. Anyway, highly recommend really for any tour because the house is pretty spooky and the guide was very informative, friendly and provided a wealth of information on this place that I've never even heard of before. But apparently this is one of the most haunted spots in Mississippi. Largely I think the house was used as a field hospital during the Civil War. But some of the owners over the years and family haunt the spot. One woman died during childbirth. Her room in particular was the one I noticed the weirdest vibe. One of the cabinets kept swinging open on it's own and I lent this attribute to old furniture and creaky joints may have just opened it on its own. But later when I went home to look at pictures I took I saw a reflection in one of the framed paintings in the bedroom and there's a kid staring back at my cellphone. Or I'm going completely crazy. There's also another bedroom that seemed there was an odd presence of the guy that was shot to death that stole travelers stuff. Or maybe his wife ripped his throat out for cheating on her. It was something to that extent. Saw a random ring that the guide had no idea about set to the side. It could have been planted but she seemed kind of shocked. Regardless, it was a really cool house and yeah, I'd stare into reflections or mirrors if you're going to catch anything off perhaps. It's not right in front of your face but you will notice some things even if you are a skeptic.

As we were planning a roadtrip, we stumbled upon this house as an attraction to visit along the way. We were so excited that they are still open! The history tour was performed by Sean, a very welcoming guide. He told us the story of the house, the people who lived there, and encouraged us to visit during the haunted tours. He did give us little sneak peaks. I'm ready to come drive back through just to hear the haunted version.

This place is a hidden gem amongst the suburbs. It was an amazing tour! The actors really brought this place to life. Their stories were creepy, but took you back to their time. I now have an appreciation of what the occupants of the home went through. The home is beautiful and kept well. This is a must see if you are ever in Vicksburg, MS.

What an amazing place! The tour didn't feel rushed and we had plenty of time to answer questions and take pictures. The tour was very interesting and not in the least bit boring. April was our tour guide, and she was just fantastic. Super sweet and knowledgeable about the house and items in it. Highly, highly recommend taking a tour here. Even our 8 year old loved it!

We did the haunted tour and I must say it's a must! Our tour guide was amazing! It was very interesting to learn the spooky stories of the McRaven home.

I have visited most major battlegrounds, forts, courthouses and buildings from these two eras. I don't really consider myself a history buff, yet I have visited several historical places. This park is certainly the most beautiful monument dedicated to war. It is also in a very beautiful setting. Abraham Lincoln donated these lands to preserve the history of the wars, and that was a great decision. Vicksburg is not really an easy access commute from anywhere, visiting here requires effort, and this park is well worth it.

Incredible place to soak in a key military battle of the Civil war. The grounds and surrounding hillsides are beautiful and well worth the drive through. Our visit culminating with seeing the gunboat ironclad Cairo. I learned so very much about the ironclads in general and the Cairo specifically. If you are any sort of history or Civil War buff this is a must see.
