This place has quite a lot of plants, I've definitely been to other meadows nurseries that are bigger but it's got enough. The service is good. The prices are high but that's typical for meadows. I'd visit again if I was looking for specific or native plants otherwise you can get plants at Home Depot or Lowe's for less, not as much selection though. read more

After numerous follow on visits, I've upped a star--although I think the issue is that management works in what I'll call a "crows nest" of sorts--some weird elevated area above the registers that I don't think they can see if there is someone standing in front of the registers (maybe I'm wrong)...but anyway, they should renovate that area and remove that weirdness. Bring the leaders down to the level of the people ;) Be sure to sign up for their VIP club, it really does help to lower costs on specials that they have and they can truly be special! Better pricing than big box sometimes kinda special. I also use them exclusively for my mulch which is priced so much better than even the 5 bag for $10 that you see often if you have your own trailer/pickup to haul off without a delivery fee. And of course, they have a great selection of healthy plants. read more

Meadows thinks that clay is topsoil. Ordered 5 yards of topsoil to fill concrete planter boxes 3 feet wide by 2.5 feet tall by 12 feet long. When it arrived in the winter it looked fine, dark. Spent a lot on labor to get the pile into the boxes. It became apparent over time that it was mostly clay. Clay mixed with some shredded leaf. I called to complain (my plants are stunted and I have been watering during this period of no rain} and was informed that clay is "normal" topsoil for this part of Virginia. Um... no. Clay is clay, not topsoil. It was offered that I could buy some mulch to help keep the soil moist, basically that it is my problem. Now I have to completely rework these huge planter boxes, dig up planted peonies and other perennials, add some actual topsoil. Total bummer and a huge amount of work. Price was never the issue for me. I asked in December "Do you have topsoil?" They said yes, and sent me clay. read more

This was the second time we have done business with Meadows Farm. The first time we purchased bulk soil and sludge and had it delivered. The delivery was on time and complete. The driver was able to drop the product where we needed it, even though this was off the hard top. The product was high quality and now six months later we have a good lawn coming in. The second visit was last week. We purchased bushes and flowers for our extended gardens. Staff was very helpful and the prices were more than competitive with the big box stores. read more

I have always had great customer service at Meadows and when I have a question about zones for plants, they are very knowledgeable. We purchased 5 Japanese Maples from them and in the first year one of them didn't make it. I told them about it and they replaced it for us. Meadows Farms has got some of the most beautiful plants around. They made a great addition to my home.

Had a $2,000 install of about 15 plants last year. Since then, about five bushes have died and have been replaced. I'm not sure why, I followed instructions, used a soaker hose, watered three times a week, etc. they say they have a lifetime warranty and seemed responsive at first but now I must have become a nuisance to them. I currently have a Hershey Red azalea that is looking sickly compared to the others. A main branch in the front of the bush died off and now there's a huge gap in the front. Either it was trampled or the harsh cold winter got to it. I have sent in pictures three times now and I guess they don't agree it needs to be replaced. It's not completely dead mind you, it is bald next to the others and looks smaller and uneven. I was told on the second attempt weeks ago that somebody would contact me. I'm still waiting. If we disagree, that's okay, I'm easy going really and I don't mind compromise so, In my last communication, I have offered to buy a new one and replace it myself. I went to the store to try and find one but they don't have this particular variety in stock. So I'm still searching for a matching replacement and I get the feeling I'm being ignored. I like to keep my front yard looking good and this Meadows has been my go to place for almost 15 years but I think it may be time to stray elsewhere. I sure hope I don't have any more issues. If anybody sees a decent Red Hershey azalea for sale somewhere, please let me know. UPDATE: The bush was finally replaced today. I'm not sure why it took so long compared to other replacements, which were replaced within a week or so. I would have appreciated occasional contact with some status updates along the way since so much time had elapsed instead of me thinking they forgot about it. The new bush looks very healthy and Meadows always gives extra attention to detail by spreading some fresh mulch to blend in with the rest of the bed. OK selection. Prices a bit high but ok with VIP program. Good sales. Bulk topsoil not shifted, lots of clumps of clay. Staff has little knowledge of gardening. One did not know what rhubarb was. Manager told me they are just low paid laborers, not expected to know about products they sell. They are vey friendly and load purchases. read more
