A quaint stop while traveling. They have a lot to offer both inside and out. There looks to be something for everyone here.

I always stop at a market of some kind when Im traveling. Great way to collect some gifts for others. I didn't have any particular item that I was looking for, but boy did I get some goodies. This will take you a few hrs to walk thru, so plan accordingly. I bought popcorn on the way in, and it was indeed good. Very clean, and alot of shops to wander around in. I went straight into the quilt shop and bought some beautiful material. I plan on making some pillows in the near future. Wow the quilting shop was one for the books, I could have stayed in there for hrs. So many crafting ideas and nice material. They ladies do offer classes, or can tell you who does in the area. They have antique shops, puzzle store, cook ware, toy store, decor and food for purchase. Im sure I missed a few things. This is a must stop if your in the area. All the shops seemed amazing and reasonable priced. Lots of parking, and everyone was welcoming. I met a few fellow antique collectors along the way. read more

We visited primarily to go to the quilt shop, but we spent long time checking out the other little shops as well. Not only is there a quilt shop, but an antique shop, a jelly store, a puzzle store, a bulk foods store, some home decor stores, a lunch counter and more. What a fun stop! I was sick, so stayed out in our RV, but the mister must have spent more than two hours browsing, and he did not come out empty handed! Being a pesky, mostly vegetarian, made it hard to find a sandwich to share, but most other people will enjoy the selections. There's an amazing number of shops all under one roof. Happy Farmer's Cafe: i love tuna melts! I had the best tuna melt in my life (78yrs) at the Hungry Farmer Cafe. It was incredible!!! My husbands' s Reuben was also great. Then we had gelato.... also incredible! This is a wonderful market filled with items you won't see anywhere else. We especially love the meats, cheeses and bakery staples at Grandma's Market. A variety of shops in one giant warehouse! Lots of unique and cool antiques (furniture, Knickknacks, quilts, etc) to look at. There is a Mennonite store with great baking goods and sweets too. Wow! What an excellent place. There's a fantastic toy store in here with older toys but also new. So many cool ideas I totally had forgot about. It has great prices. There's a few antique stores with some really neat antiques. There are two Amish stores with fantastic selections of jams, jelly's, butters and pie fillings. The other store has all your cooking needs. There's hand made wood rocking chairs. A delicious lunch place. I love when you have a "mall" that provides so many great things. read more

Amish country brought to you. A delightful indoor market place with an eclectic array of items. Quilts, antique items, candy store by the weight kitchen items. We came in and it was almost empty. We came on a Monday so that might explain it. The Mennonite candy/craft/food store was amazing. Lil stations for tasting cheese, dips and snacks. Grandmas pick dip was wonderful. If you are expecting a farmer's market with the definition of a plethora of local produce booths, this would not be the place. But it does met the definition of farmers market that i think of that sells local crafts, local baked goods.....a place where farmer's might come to shop get several different types of goods and head home. This place is a suzy q home makers haven.... I don't mean that in a negative way. I consider myself a Suzy Q homemaker.... there is a fabric shop! At cooking shop! Furniture Shop! Locally canned products and a place where you can find all of your baking and snack needs! And in the parking lot is a small building where you can find locally baked goods and locally grown produce! I really enjoy coming to this place and always find something unique. Take some time and check it out! read more

This gem is a little tricky to find. Our GPS kept saying we were there but nothing in view. Then i saw a small sign for the fabric shop that was inside and we went down a small street and found this great place. There is the fabric/quilt store along with some antique stores. Cute market with lots of shops. I was able to kill over an hour walking through the various shops. There is also a small restaurant with dining area. I loved all the samples available at the jelly/jam/jar store (I forgot the name). I ended up getting some wonderful pepper jelly. We look forward to getting into the blueberry rhubarb and triple berry jams too! Grandma's pantry was a lovely little shop. They had cheese and dip samples throughout the store. A nice selection of candy. I got some mini peanut butter cup eggs and some jalapeño cheese. It was all very good. The toy store was very cute and there was also a saddle store. My only concern was that one store appears to be a front for a white nationalist store - tons and tons of propaganda books about "the truth behind the KKK" and "why the south was right." Granted, I didn't read any of these books but the many titles were disturbing. read more

As a big proponent of truth in advertising, I'm not sure how I feel about this place calling themselves a farmer's market. See, to me, that conjures up pictures of stalls of fresh, local produce. And there's none of that to be found. That got me thinking about how much of the rest of their description was accurate. And I came to some conclusions on the truthfulness of each word in this place's title. Shenandoah: While there were no local farmers represented in this giant building with permanent stalls, there was a good representation of local wares from the surrounding communities. This included a local candy maker (perfect for picking up road food for a trip down I-81), local Amish jammers (with lots of free samples of their many unique flavors), and - of course - apple cider. Lots of Shenandoah Valley apple-based goodness. Heritage: This is the part that was a bit skeevy. Inside the halls is a lot of "western wear" and a bookstore which celebrated the Shenandoah Valley being the "Breadbasket of the Confederacy" a bit too much for my taste. Thankfully, the Quasi-racist books and posters are on the other side of the building from the yummy food. Farmers: As I mentioned, local farmers selling greens are nowhere to be found. But at the cafe in the middle, they sell tasty ice cream made from local milk in a heavier "European style." The guy who runs the cafe knows a ton about ice cream too. It's worth coming here just to talk to him. Market: I want to call this place a flea market, but I'm not even sure it qualifies as that. The stalls are too permanent. Maybe it could be considered a mall. Who knows. I'm just glad there aren't really fleas here. It does seems a bit dusty and smelly. In the end, no matter what one calls this place, it's worth a side trip off the highway. It would be worth even more of one without the gross book store even. read more

At first glance, its a lot of fun-- lots of interesting shops and a variety of products to look at. There are lots of samples and new flavors and items to experience. Its definitely worth checking out if you live in the area. However-- after going so many times I stopped looking at it for the wonderful experience that it is and started noticing the prices. Its pricier than farmers markets that I'm used to, so if you're looking to be thrifty, don't go. But if you're looking for a place to have a pleasant morning at, its a great find. read more

Shenandoah Heritage Market - the entrance to the store - Farmers Market Near Me - Harrisonburg, Virginia

What is that smell? Best I can tell it's the pungent aroma of old people, antique farm equipment, hand-drawn pictures of Dale Earnhardt, confederate flag sweatshirts and a dozen vintage Honda motorcycles that aren't for sale. In any event, the smell never changes, but you quickly forget about it as you make your way around the market. Stop in at the Country Canner and eat some jelly on an oyster cracker. They usually have about two dozen different varieties to sample from, some normal (strawberry, cherry) and some less well-known (dandelion, watermelon rind). The bulk food store is also worth hitting up. Everything you can possibly want, bagged up for your bulky convenience. Spices, herbs, flour, candy, crunchy snacks, etc. SHFM also has a better-than average kitchenwares shop. Most things are higher quality than Wal-Mart or BB&B and this is also a good place to go to find esoteric country equipment (sausage casings, etc.) Outside of those three places, the SHFM is a decent place to make a lap Monday - Saturday. The fact that it's open more days of the week than the Dayton Farmers Market meant we usually ended up here. There's a fresh produce shed out in the front of the building, but detached. They get local corn and apples and other produce when they can. In the off seasons, they source from other places. There's no such thing as a local banana, you know. Finally, there's the kettle corn man out front. He's never busy but he's always there. I don't get it. read more

Re-dubbed "Amish Wal-Mart" by myself and fiance, the SHFM is a true trip into all that is wacky, wonderful and idiosyncratically connected to the Shenandoah Valley. Antiques, pickled things, guns, dixie flags and a plethora of Jesus-friendly vendors make this a real cultural hotspot. The food store in the back is also the ONLY place in H-burg to find Semolina Flour, for you pasta-makers out there. We especially enjoyed eye-ing the collection of vintage Honda motorcycles and stylized Amish buggies parked around the cafe area as we chomped local bacon sammies. read more

Fantastic place to visit if your in the Harrisonburg, Va area. Great place to purchase handmade furniture, rugs, quilts, in house jellies, chutneys, and pickles. Huge selection of antiques and southern collectibles. Check out the restaurant for great southern dishes and homemade pies/ice cream. Huge candy shop and deli. This place has something for everyone. This is a great place to while away a Saturday afternoon. It's a terrific collection of antiques and the traditional. My family's favorite vendors include the collections in the Antique Barn, the Country Canner and the toystore at the very end of the place. Generally, you will see an interesting mix of people in there: some Amish in traditional dress or not, the aforementioned senior citizens, some stray JMU students who wander in and assorted locals and country folk. We are probably not the average visitors there, but we have a good time regardless. In this review, I'll give scattered observations about a few of the shops. The Country Canner has mainly jams, jellies and preserves, and they are of good quality and offer some unusual or old-fashioned flavors, such as mulberry, watermelon rind, dandelion, green pepper and kiwi. We've bought several jars from them, and the quality's been high and the ingredients fresh. We picked up a new favorite flavor this way--mulberry, which is excellent. They also sell some cedar boxes, rockers and birdhouses just outside the main shop. We'd purchased one of the larger cedar boxes to store our old clothes, and it was worth the cost. The folks who run this place are very nice and helpful. The toystore there (Timeless Toys) is great fun, and it's my son's favorite shop. I like it, because it stocks traditional wooden toys and some well-designed replicas. For example, my son bought a wind-up steel-cased replica of a 1930s streamline trains with cars, and we'd also bought a replica of an old 1920s wind-up tin car there. We also found real metal slinkies there, not the cheap plastic ripoffs that you usually find at Wally World or the like. There are some toys on display that kids are welcome to try out, and the clerks here are very friendly and patient. Going to this store really is a bit like stepping in a time machine, although they stock many more modern items also. The Antique Barn's a long section of corridors with many small booths with antiques for sale. We've dug out some good finds there, including some high-end 1940s angora sweaters my wife had bought that were in exceptional condition and that she wears intermittently now. Just outside the Barn's another large section of antiques from a single dealer, who has some moderately priced furniture of worthy quality. In particular, there's some oak furniture of late 1800s vintage that includes bookcases, secretaries and chests of drawers, and I think the pricing for these is very competitive compared to other Shenandoah Valley antique shops. Once, I'd bought a fairly rare book from this same dealer for a fraction of its usual cost. I find the Crossroads Country Store intriguing, and the proprietor's a very amiable fellow. If you're a Civil War buff, there's a bookstore section with many uncommon reprint editions from the 1800s. Some of the originals are rather rare and expensive items, so these have much value for someone who's serious about it from a historical or research perspective. The perspective is very much "Lost Cause" and pro-Confederate, which is why some visitors here have been offended. It's true that there is a fair amount of literature for sale acting as apologetics for the CSA or the antebellum South. However, there's a larger set of books here that just deal with the South from a military or civilian angle during the Civil War, including from academic presses such as the Louisiana State University Press and the University of South Carolina Press. There's also a respectable number of books and magazines that would be of use to Civil War reenactors & researchers, such as in-depth books dealing with different divisions of the Confederate army in Virginia & books of historical interest, such as one dealing with Confederate paper ephemera & another reprinting Confederate sheet music. My admittedly limited experience with the shop's proprietor is that he treats everyone well who's a customer and is not a biased individual. However, some people are going to find that the editorial slant of the bookstore portion of the store (which is a single, moderate-sized section of the entire Crossroads store only) offends them. I don't expect the controversy over this store to be resolved, because this period of Southern history remains highly controversial and subject to often strong opinions. You needn't be an unreconstructed Neo-Confederate to visit or find something of interest but be aware of the bookstore's contents before you enter & are surprised. There's quite a bit more to describe: a food court in the middle that makes tasty po'boy sandwiches & has a buffet that we always arrive too late in the day to sample, a new Amish-made small furniture dealer near the middle of the place, and the produce stand just outside the building that was described in another review. I don't find the pricing here cheap, but it's certainly not expensive compare to similar venues and the overall quality of goods is commendable read more

I stopped by the Shenandoah Heritage Farmer's Market for a couple of hours today. I'm an out-of-towner and had no idea what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite stop was the Country Canner. OMG, you have to get some of the little fried hand pies at the check out. They are to die for, seriously. We tried three kinds: blueberry, peach and cherry. The peach was good but the other two were great! I also bought four tiny little jars of jam. The most unusual was Root Beer jam. My boys love root beer so I thought they might like it. I also got some Buckwheat pancake mix and boysenberry syrup for it. The other two shops I really liked were the toy shop (some novel and more old-school toys there) and the kitchen store. I would have liked to buy out half the kitchen store! I made myself leave before I bought anything! I didn't even get to make it to any other stores. I can't speak to the civil war or confederate shops as I didn't go to them. But I had a grand old time and could easily have spent two hours more. :) OH, and PS- I have no idea why the address is listed as Carpenter Rd- that's the truck entrance and it is seriously confusing. This is more of a collection of stores, rather than a farmer's market, so if you're expecting fresh produce this is not the place - although in the summer there is a produce stand that's open in a separate building in the parking lot as well as a greenhouse. The main building has a nice collection of stores - locally canned goods (my favorite shop), a large kitchen store, bulk foods, several stores that sell trinkets and gifts, a large open restaurant, antiques and more. The toy store is excellent with SO many old time and classic toys and lots of modern toys also. An antique store, the country canner with loads of jams and sauces, Granny's pantry with bulk candy, snacks, soup mixes... antique store, Virginia heritage store, kitchen specialty store, fabric store, handmade furniture that I wish we had room in our vehicle so I could have purchased! and a cafe right in the middle of it all with good sandwiches. I have lived here for 5 years and didn't know about this place until I had family visiting from out of town and were looking for farmers markets. Wandering through the indoor facility, I was amazed at how large it was. I was also amazed at the pricing, but knowing the local community was producing these items, and most are things you cannot get anywhere else around here, I am happy to go back! The jellies are amazing, the fudge is good, if you like "rich" fudge, the people are very friendly and the nostagic feel you get from this place is priceless. Theres so much to choose from, and a store for everyone, knik-knacks to candies, bulk spices to antiques, fresh produce to flowers, I could spend every saturday at this place! read more

Our favorite is the Mennonite candy shop where they also sell healthy snacks, honey,& jellies.
