The food is amazing! But it's their southern hospitality that really stands out! This is a must stop!

The foundation is still there with the rooms and decor but with lots of tables set up, similar to hosting a gathering at home. Not only that, everyone here was really friendly! We really felt welcomed, and though the second time, service wasn't as outstanding, it was still good. I think they really nailed down the vibe of southern hospitality. For drinks, they have seasonal cocktails, which I think is fun, but I'm not around at a time where I would be able to chill and drink. I end up with a go-to sweet tea. Strong and sweet, that it kept me up, but not the strongest nor sweetest I've had. There's also complimentary bread that's mini muffin shaped and dense like a biscuit. It's buttery and salty, but I like it! Before coming, I saw so many things about the sampler, so I definitely wanted to get it and try out. Love the fried green tomatoes with the honey mustard. It didn't feel oily, and it held up pretty well when cut and dipped into sauce. The pimento cheese here is probably the best I've ever had, but I will admit that I have not had many (I tend to not like it). In fact, both these items stay on my mind enough that I do think about coming here more often than I thought I would. And this is just for the apps. The rest of the entrees are pretty standard. Some better than others, but that's due to preference. I haven't gone through the whole menu, but I do prefer their chicken to some of the other menu items. For their sides, I haven't seen or heard of some of them. I asked about them, and they were described p well, enough for me to not want to try congealed salad. I'm not a big fan of jello type things, but I did try the pear salad. Not for me. Absolutely not for me. I did really enjoy the collard green soup and sweet potato souffle though! They were great, esp the souffle. It was my first time having nuts in them, and I loved it so much. Everything else was alright, like I'm sure you've had or can make better mac. Overall, I'm glad to know this place because it's a good rec for the area if you're in the mood for Southern food. It's not a bad pick for vegetarians either, though they would only have appetizers and sides to pick from, but I liked them more than the entrees. There's a parking lot, and it's in a good location to see the rest of downtown Perry too.

Driving North from Florida, we wanted dinner and preferred not fast food, but good food served efficiently. Well we hit that out of the park by ending up at The Oil Lamp. My friend had the chicken & mashed potatoes (these are the real deal!!). I had the beef tips on gravy over mashed potatoes. We shared sides of braised cabbage that had a fair amount of garlic - I will be thinking about it, yes thinking about cabbage - first time for everything. We also shared creamed corn and this is NOT from a can. The corn was so sweet and there was a crunch to it, which only fresh corn can give. Everything looked delicious. I eyed those desserts, but I'd finished my plate and just no more room. I live like 4 hours away, but I'm hoping to time my return trip to return to this gem. This isn't fancy, it's good food that has been cooked by chefs that know how to cook old school. Last note - generous portions.

Upon entry, you go to the right to get in line and order. There is a sign with daily specials (you can also check out their Facebook page!). Up first are the trays and silverware and then the salad bar. After that are some entrees and sides they dish out for you. We ordered the rib-eye meal which comes with a side and bread but you can add whatever you want! I think it was $29, which at first seemed a little expensive, but my brother and friends assured me was definitely worth it! We also grabbed a drink and some dessert. All of the employees were very kind and welcoming. We went right at 5 on a Thursday evening so there was plenty of seating. The tables were big and there was room for all 10 of us (that's why we went early!) The food...was amazing! The steak was PERFECT. I asked for it medium and it was medium. So tender and flavorful! My brother wasn't lying when he said it was worth it. I also had the loaded mashed potatoes - excellent, biscuit-yummy, and the chocolate peanut butter pie- OH MY! I will definitely be returning to this establishment. We really enjoyed it.

It is very upscale! Our server was nice but not intrusive. We received refills on time and requests were honored very promptly. My daughter ordered a mixed drink and it was good, she also ordered the Chicken Avery and she really enjoyed it along with the garlic green beans. The not so good (in my opinion): I ordered shrimp and my husband ordered the ribeye with accompanying mac n cheese and baked potato. The Mac N Cheese was so soupy you needed a spoon to eat it. Soupy in a watery way not a cheesy way. Baked potatoes were just alright. The skin was great with salt & oil. The inside was either overcooked or not fresh. Several of us ordered the potato and we all felt the same. The $50 ribeye was bland and chewy. My shrimp were comparable to Captain D's . I hate to say that but when I tasted of them that's all I could think of. I think it had more to do with the breading than the actual taste of the shrimp themselves. It was my daughter's birthday and she ordered the crème brûlée. She enjoyed it. The top was nice and crunchy but not warm. The entire thing was cold which was odd. All of the food we received wasn't hot it was warm at best. This is probably a one and done for me just bc the price doesn't reflect the quality of the food. We don't mind paying for something really great but when you feel let down after eating it's tough to go back.

I assume they open from 6-10 for breakfast then close and open back for lunch at 11-1:30. Its a very simple interior: wooden floors, walls, e big rooms with just tables, chairs with simple tablecloths, some napkin holders salt and pepper, some pepper sauce. You walk in get in line and they ask what you want. This Tuesday they had: Fried chicken, Salisbury steaks in gravy, pot roast, shepherds pie. Veggies were French fries, rice, mashed potatoes, turnip greens, rice, creamed corn, green beans, black eyed peas, fried okra and then your choice of biscuit or a cornbread pancake (Ho cake). Plus they had peach cobbler. 2 of us got the Salisbury steaks one got the fried chicken and one got the pot roast. We all got the cornbread pancake and 3 of us got the peach cobbler and all got drinks. It was $60 for the 4'of us. Which I think was a pretty good deal. I spoke to the lady and she stated her they always have the fried chicken but the meats and veggies will change daily. They will sometimes have chicken and dumplings, rutabaga, on Fridays they'll have fried fish. I will definitely come back. By 11:40 when we were gonna leave the place was pretty packed. You can get your food to go or sit down. This has to be a pretty popular local place. There was an order for 15 when they opened. I will definitely visit again when we are in the area!
