I actually ventured out of London to try the XXXmas menu at MeatLiquor - it was my first visit to their branch in Brighton. I think it might actually have my favourite interior of the whole chain. Anyway, the food - top of my list to try of the festive options was their XXXmas Garbage Plate - fries, sausage & stuffing patty topped with slices of roast turkey served with gravy, cranberry sauce and crispy stuffing sprinkles. I'm a fan of fries with OTT toppings anyway (I love a good poutine) so this was always going to be my favourite. I had the XXXmas Burger too - instead of your usual beef, this burger had a sausage and stuffing patty, roast turkey, crispy bacon, gravy and cranberry sauce. It was delicious and tasted like Christmas. It was very similar in flavour to the garbage plate (obviously, since it has virtually the same ingredients) so I would suggest ordering one or the other - not both like I did! I also tried the Xmac & Cheese - deep fried camembert and stilton mac and cheese with a cranberry and port dipping sauce. These were divine. I love the regular mac and cheese bites but these were extra oozy and cheesy and the sauce was perfect. I definitely over cranberried on this meal! We also ordered from the regular menu - the Chicken Parma Burger and the Fried Pickles (my favourite side!).

beef and bacon burger and chicken and blue cheese burger

I've been to this place once before and really didn't enjoy it - but as people rave about it so much, me and my boyfriend decided to be open minded and go for lunch today. BAD decision. The food is horrifically salty and sweet and makes it very sickly. This time around, I had the chicken and blue cheese burger; the chicken was deep fried (which isn't my cup of tea) but it wasn't even crispy because it was drenched in this sugary spicy sauce. The blue cheese was just a sweet blue cheese mayonnaise which combined with the chicken sauce made it unbearable to eat. Fries were good but again covered in salt. The staff were friendly enough and on telling our waitress about our last encounter (and her assuring me the Philadelphia steak burger that I had was awful and had been removed off the menu....not sure if that's good or bad?!) some how she made me feel hopeful for the meal ahead - I was sorely disappointed. What I hate most is that I could have spent a tenner on a burger and fries at countless places in Brighton, enjoyed it and not feel so horrendously sick now (and I left the vast majority of my meal!) - so I left feeling scammed and sickly - not a winning combination. Saving grace was they were playing some really good jazzy blues music but even that couldn't cheer the dire food situation. Lastly, the decor makes me feel on edge - patterns everywhere, dark lighting, giant florescent clowns on the walls? It was a cross between eating in a night club and a bad LSD trip. We will not be going back - I really cannot understand why everyone loves about this place!!

Cheese and onion fries and the best onion rings in town

Iv been here a couple of times now and have really enjoyed myself both times, it's Defo not a place I'd want to take my mum though. The menu is so good and has a lot of choice which I like. Cocktails were good a little pricey though. Cheese and onion fries and onion rings are a must, good burgers and am aching to go back and try the phili cheese steak. My mum wouldn't appreciate the dark lighting and loud music and being served wine in a glass tumbler. - slightly pretentious. If u have mum like preferences this place won't be for u either. I really enjoyed a s-alty meal here with my buds! Fits in perfect to the Brighton experience.

Halloumi and mushroom burger with cheese fries (not chips).

I've been here twice now and the food is pretty good! I've had the halloumi burger and cheese fries which were both great. The only downfall to eating here, is the speed of service. The first time we waited ages for not only food but our check as well. I definitely wouldn't knock the establishment at all as it has some DOPE aesthetics, just don't drop in if you're in a huge rush. Otherwise, it's worth checking out!

    Decor is really out there!
    Ben J.

Great atmosphere and the perfect place to go with a group of friends. The fries are big enough for 2 people to share, so if you're hungry get one just for you. Friendly staff make it a relaxing place to eat and drink.

Now, don't be fooled into comparing this London incarnation to the 2 famous Philly Cheesesteak venues because those 2 spots are tourist traps. You want to compare this to the 'hood joints where you get your sammiches & these guys are well up to scratch!! The meat is in abundance & while I'm not so sure these are authentic Amoroso rolls, they are pretty darn close. Things your cheesesteak should be...Cooked using water - yup, oil is not used in the hoody versions; have a mouth-watering smell of flavour when you unwrap it. Hot, flavourful; meat, cheese and onions should become one unit of deliciousness. These are defo delicious but didn't have the steam aroma when I unwrapped it & they're cooked using oil but were not greasy - thank goodness. Original cheesesteaks may be cooked with mushrooms or hots and the ketchup and/or mustard are added before the meat goes onto the roll. These guys don't offer those varieties but I assure you, these are darn good versions of my beloved Philly Original. I noticed they're offering the Philly pork sandwich so I'll be back to sample that too. Well done guys, very well done! P.S. If in the future you can master the Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie, you'll get an instant 5 Star review.

So I was quite surprised when I saw Liberty Cheesesteak in the listing of places at the Yelp Red event. Immediately I started Googling and found out that a) they looked like some tasty cheesesteaks and b) that I wasn't going to be able to try it until at the Yelp event. My other half was able to try it out though before the event and was suitably impressed. I was so excited to try and eagerly went for my cheesesteak taster and thought, meh. It's fine but a bit dry or something. My husband though insisted it was just because of the making-ahead-bulk-nature of trying to feed eleventy million hungry Yelpers at once and that it was better fresh. So today I hopped on a bus at lunchtime to go to the Mayfair Market at Brown Hart Gardens. Never had been there before and I was impressed with the location - up a flight of stairs, but loads and loads of seating and generally relaxed, with a handful of food choices. Of course for me there was no choice, just meeeeaaaattttt. I found the tiny stand and determined that no one was queuing to order, and eagerly placed my order for a half with onions and cheese whiz. There were about 10 orders ahead of me but the line cleared quickly and I soon had my sandwich. There was a small mix up and I ended up with a whole instead of a half. Such mistakes are fine by me! I was rewarded for my persistence. The meat was well seasoned with a nice peppery taste, and the Italian roll soft but chewy in a nice way. The onions were soft but not sweet, and the whiz was savoury and salty and unhealthy tasting, just like I wanted. 2 tiny niggles were that I had a couple of pieces of meat that could have been trimmed a bit better - but I'm a complete fuss pot and no one else would probably notice. And I would have liked more cheese. But I always want more cheese, and I'm sure if I asked for heavy on the cheese next time that I wouldn't be denied. Definitely better than the cheesesteak I had in Philadelphia from Geno's. Now to just figure out how to follow them around and be a cheesesteak groupie without seeming like a weirdo...

There are 5 different locations, each with a different Philly theme. This one was inspired by a South Philly dive bar. The decor and food definitely passed the vibe check, and I really enjoyed educating my European friends on all things Philly! I was a little disappointed by the prices and the service; of course I didn't expect the servers to be from Philly as well, but they seemed very closed off and honestly put a damper on my experience. I was so excited to take a picture with the Drexel flag (my alma mater) and check everything out, but I hate to say I did not feel welcome. Maybe it's more of a place for Fitzrovia locals now? Or maybe it was a slow night/bad night for staff? Either way, service left something to be desired :( I've heard good things about some of the other locations though. Philly cheesesteak roll was nice and soft, as it should be, though I am always a fan of extra pickles. Go birds!

Sometimes you stumble upon places based on sheer starvation and not wanting to take another step. That was me today. Given all of the places I have bookmarked on Yelp I normally wouldn't just wander into the unknown but when you've been shopping and sight seeing until your feet can't go anymore, you'll end up like me just choosing the first place that looks good. This burger joint was inviting, was able to be seated right away, and staff were quick. The pros about this place are that staff are very friendly and on top of service. Was nice to dine quickly despite how busy this area can get during tourist season. As far as the restaurants theme it was a little funny the Hawaiian vibe and name. I didn't really see it aside from the decor, putting pineapple on a burger doesn't make a restaurant Hawaiian but I'll give them points for being creative with a theme that you normally wouldn't see in the UK. Once I got over the menu being more traditional fare and less "Hawaiian" it was easy to go with the traditional cheeseburger. The burger was slightly above average in terms of flavor (patty needed more seasoning) BUT I was impressed with the grilled onions and how fresh the lettuce and tomato looked. Plus I'm a sucker for Mayo and they put Mayo as a primary ingredient so I was happy. I'd say service and pricing were 5 stars and food a solid 3.5 If you want a easy and casual meal that won't break the bank this spot totally works.

A…read moreblessing because, let's face it, these are some of the best burgers I've ever tasted, and a nightmare because it's going to be hard not to get one every single day... Set up in a tiny, shack-like kitchen just beside the Giggling Squid, Brighton Burger serves hearty, honest, flavoursome food. Their menu is wonderful, hosting many unusual eats and obscure burgers - from wild boar to buffalo- but they also server your usual burger and fries to a very high standard. The burgers themselves are almost moist and full of flavour. So moist, in fact, that my takeaway burger soaked through the paper bag (my only teeny complaint!). This can be forgiven though, for as soon as you bite into the juicy burger, cuddled by sweet, soft bun and topped with whatever glorious accompaniments you opted for, everything can be forgiven. Literally everything. This last visit had me trying out the buffalo burger, which was absolutely delicious! Not as different tasting as you might expect it to be, but certainly different enough that you notice you're tasting something new and out of the ordinary! I added chips to my order and they came out, all thin and crispy, just how I like them! I almost typed there were 'too many chips' there, but let's be honest there's no such thing. There were loads of them though, in one portion, so maybe share between two if your appetite is not massive! The man who served me was pleasant (they always are!) and the service was quick and painless. The burger and chips came to around £8 which, though not the cheapest in Brighton, is so so reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of the food here! There's also a few tables and chairs dotted out by the front of the place, so you can sit in the sun (when it's about) and enjoy your burger in peace, watching the world go by! If you're in Brighton and you haven't tried these burgers then, firstly, shame on you, and secondly TRY THEM. I'll eat my hat if you're not impressed and back again for seconds the next week! :P
