But let's talk about the main event, the undisputed heavyweight champion of our visit: the Llanera wood-fire meat. We saw the fire, we smelled the delicious smoke, and like two people who hadn't eaten in a geological era, we ordered the Family Feast. "That's a nice amount of food," my friend said, innocently. "We can share this," I agreed, a fool's words if ever they were uttered. Friends, that wasn't a feast; it was a food pyramid carved out of pure, smoky, perfectly cooked meat. I'm pretty sure they wheeled a whole cow out on a hand truck. For under $70, we were given enough wood-fire protein to sustain a small village for the winter, or at least my family for the next week. We ate until we couldn't feel our toes. We ate until the concept of "full" became a distant, theoretical state. And yet, when we packed up, we were still left with a terrifying, beautiful mountain of meat. I'm currently using the leftovers to make llanera-based tacos, llanera-based chili, and I think I saw my dog eyeing a slice for a llanera-based dog biscuit. If you like incredible, flavorful, wood-fire meat and you hate the idea of cooking for yourself for the foreseeable future, run, don't walk. Just make sure you bring a car with an empty trunk for all the leftovers. Highly recommend!
