The first thing I noticed upon walking into the store was the shop dog, Tommy! He is a gentle giant, a big fluffy golden retriever who was happy to receive some pets from me and my friend's five year old. Inside the store, there is a cute kids area with fun paintings on the walls, stuffed animals, and small chairs for kids to sit while they check out some books. I was more interested in looking at new releases, but this bookstore seemed laid out a bit differently and instead of having all new releases on display in the front, they had some children's books and other picks in the main display near the entrance. I found the cookbook section right away and was really happy with the selection there. They had a bunch of different cookbooks I'd never seen before, which was fun to browse. The store has other gifts and games and fun houseware items, including several locally made things which I thought was great. The owner working was helpful to my friend who was looking for a Beatrix Potter book. They didn't have it in stock but I'm sure they could order it. They have a rewards program which is great if you buy a lot of books! The other nice part about Epilogue Books is their little reading area with beverages and coffee. I don't live nearby but if I did, this would definitely be my go-to bookstore.

Horizon Books has a nice kids' section, located right in the front of the store. They have some…read morecomfy kid-sized beanbag chairs, a rocking chair, and a table set up overlooking the front window, so kids can curl up with a book and enjoy the view of downtown Cadillac. There are also lots of popular children's books available (lots of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which is super important), as well as a section of children's books by local Michigan writers and books about the state of Michigan. There's a little cafe here, too. It's not much, but you can get coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chips and other snacks, and some baked goods. There are a few tables in the cafe area where you can sit and enjoy your food and beverages. I was impressed by the number of cute Michigan / Cadillac gifts that were around the store. Things like Cadillac mugs, tote bags, t-shirts, cards and other things. If you're looking for a souvenir or local gift, this is a place to find that.

I love when you walk in you are greeted with the 100 Banned Books to peruse through. I love a business that highlights banned books, as all booksellers should be doing this year. Although I felt like the selection was limited, I wasn't upset with this store. It just took me a little longer to find a book to purchase. I loved all the knickknacks (stickers, bags, etc) they had to shop from. The kind bookseller was helpful when I asked for help. You can do some thinking in this bookstore. In other words: It's a good used bookstore! Book Nook is one of the older bookstores in Cadillac. They have lots of books, including rare and out-of-print titles. It's not fancy in the least bit, and in fact it's a little overwhelming to visit because there's just so much everywhere all at once. But if you're into organized chaos, you will have fun exploring Book Nook because there is something to see all around the store. My children headed straight for the kids' section. There were lots of books here that sent me straight to the late 1980s and early 1990s when I was a young reader, like the McGurk detective series and Lois Lowry joints. My kids each found a book to take home for pocket change. That's the great thing about used book stores: You can walk away with a treasure for a couple of bucks. Book Nook also has lots of old magazines, those trash paperback romance novels you read on vacation, albums and vinyl records, 25-cent gum-ball machines and more. It's the real old-school deal, and you need to visit this place when you're in Cadillac.

If you are looking for a particular book by a certain author, you can easily see where is located. Everything is alphabetized by author's name within whatever genre it falls.
