I've been to this salon a few times and had great service when I booked with Aj, but this time I decided to try someone new since Aj's prices went up and I couldn't afford her. I went mainly for a new style and some help with my bangs. I had gotten my bangs cut by a different stylist at another salon and they weren't what I asked for, so I wanted some help from the salon I thought I could trust. First, when I got my hair washed I was expecting the full service, like a hair mask and hand massage, but for some reason I didn't get that. Second, I asked for a shag cut with lots of layers in the back and my baby bangs to be fixed and styled differently. What I got was uneven bangs and long layers. My stylist didn't know how to help me fix my bangs and repeatedly tried to style them, but I still left with my bangs sticking up and super choppy like my 4 year old sister cut my bangs. Instead of experimenting on my hair, I would've been much happier if my stylist told me she can't achieve the style I wanted. After, I was embarrassed so I just paid and left hiding my bangs. When I got home sobbing, my mom called the salon asking if I could get my service refunded. They called back saying that I could only get $20 back. They also mentioned that I was the one that came in with uneven bangs. We are very disappointed with how this salon manages these complaints because we at least expected them to offer to fix what was done to my bangs. I came to get my hair cut to boost my confidence, but I left feeling even worse than I did before. Me and my family will not be returning to this salon. Really disappointed in my scheduling and planning. I booked a men's color. They didn't schedule time so my son only got his hair bleached and no color but sure still had to pay for the color. And they didn't even have time to cut or trim. We could have bleached ourselves for way cheaper. If you don't have time tell us before you start. Now we have to go somewhere else to get it cut and colored. The prices have gone up which is fine if the service and treatment matched but not scheduling and making sure needs are met isn't a great look. We have been with them since their original location and I am really disappointed we didn't get to color but we paid a lot for literally just a kids bleach. read more

I just went to this salon a couple of hours ago and my hair still looks phenomenal! I couldn't be more happy with my hair and how the stylist, Brandi Mitchell, did it. She was so kind and did my hair exactly how i wanted her to. She was very easy with my hair and made it look the best it's ever looked before. They took it back and washed it in a quiet room while they massaged my head with a complimentary hand massage. Then they took it back and trimmed it to the exact length I wanted it and they had a delicious tropical soda. Then she curled it and parted it in the middle. Angie did my daughters hair and did an EXCELLENT job! She was patient, fun and my daughter LOVED sitting in her chair. My daughter got a color (non-bleach) and Angie did an excellent job. The salon itself was beautiful on the inside and out, the ambiance was lovely. It was extremely clean and smelled like perfume throughout the entire establishment. Not a good experience on my first visit to Madelyn for my son. He has longer hair. The sides are, or were, below his ears. He went in today and asked for a trim, not a cut. The stylist cut his hair short, over his ears. After getting his hair washed, we were out the door in 15 minutes, as you would be at a franchised $20/cut barber shop. The sides and back make him look like he is a mid-30's conservative instead of a mid-teen high schooler. He's now angry and frustrated, hiding under a baseball cap, and back to where he was five months ago the last time he got a haircut. I don't see why stylists/barbers don't listen to what they are asked to do. read more

Im convinced Medalyn must be code for magic carpet of Alayydyn for hair dreams come true. I've never felt more at ease in a salon, and I am a confessed salon hopper. Initially I thought it may be the buzz from Aveda products- which are known for their aromatherapy properties. Or perhaps the overwhelm of creature comforts consistently provided with services. Fresh bakery goods, varied bagged snacks, and charging cables within reach at the color bar for starters. Then there's the signature fresh sparkling soda and hand and scalp massages- offered as consistently as you hear a "My pleasure" at Chik-fil-a. But I've come to realize the real reason I'm so at ease in this salon. The hairdressers are hyper-focused on you alone. No one has ever touched my hair but Julie in the 2 + years I've been going here. And I've never seen the "jumping between clients" I've become annoyed with at other salons. No assistants- only my magic hairdresser-Julie! I've been so pleased with her as I maintain highlights/style on my super-fine, delicate long hair every 1-2 months. But my life changed when she added extensions- for volume only- a couple months ago. I absolutely LOVE them!! Finally won the battle over my collicks showing "bald spots"! And I feel like goldi-locks! I did accidentally rip one extension out when I "cheated" and didn't use the brush Julie sent me home with. But I can't tell and I've all but forgotten it happened. Was looking for a new salon, and had not had a haircut and/or highlight in 6 months due to the Delta Variant rearing it's ugly head. After doing online research, MEDALYN salon appeared to be a good fit. First, scheduled a consultation with Cara. Liked her suggestions, so the following week went for a cut and highlight. My hair is somewhat "difficult"...baby fine, thinning, with sprinkles of grey. Many other stylists have tried to work with the grey, only to have totally botched the job. Cara is an extremely gifted hair "artist" (I hesitate to say stylist, as she is much, much more)! My hair has never looked better! Beautiful (very natural looking) highlights/lowlights, and a great cut that follows the natural waves in my hair. She also did the highlights in such a way that I can stretch out appointments to 10-12 weeks. (Note: my natural color is dark ash blonde sprinkled with grey, so grow out is not that noticeable). Cara, you are truly a "miracle worker". My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, is there appears to be no cautionary measures concerning COVID (masking, social distancing, etc...) I am immuno comprised, and a scientist, so this is always in the forefront of my mind (even being triple vaccinated). If you are "okay" with that, then it's an absolute 5-Star experience. Final note - If money is a concern, it is rather expensive, but you get what you pay for, and Cara is SO WORTH IT!. read more

This is my was not my first visit to the salon, although my first visit since the move of location. Unfortunately because I had lived so far away due to school, I was unable to visit frequently enough to know that my regular stylist was no longer there. Yet having, had such a wonderful experience each time with the staff, and simply being in the salon, I decided to give it a try with another stylist. Trusting that the salon would put me into good hands. When I arrived with my stylist Shelby, leading me to the back. I had explained to her that I gone through chemotherapy very recently and had just grown my hair out. Telling her I had wanted to keep the length/health of my hair with a trim. As well as getting bangs for a new look. Seeing as she was playing with my hair, I assumed she was assessing it before we had went back for a wash (which made me feel like I was in good hands, and that she had paid attention to what I was saying). When I had my hair washed, it felt very brisk, more brisk than any hair wash I've ever received. But I had said nothing as we made it to the chair for my cut. Through out the cut, my stylist wasn't much of a speaker. And I found myself having to start a conversation frequently.. only to have it die out. I understand some people don't like to talk much, but it really made me anxious feeling like my stylist wasn't getting to know me, or how I'd like my hair... Maybe I'm asking for too much. But then again, even for the lower level stylist the price was a little steep. Which I didn't mind paying for to begin with, or leaving a decent tip. I didn't end up noticing anything wrong with my hair until I had left the salon. My hair was oily at the roots when I had gotten into my car, to have a closer look.(indicating that my assumption of the hair wash being not as thorough was right) Yet I had set that aside and just tied up my hair, knowing it wouldn't be a big deal since I was going straight home after that. When I had gotten home, to show my friend. He pointed out to me that one side of my bangs were longer than the rest on the ends completely. Even having a random short lock on one side that I didn't have on the other. (Which I doesn't go into the hair tie when I tie it up) Waiting it out for a day, I hoped that it would get better and that my hair would probably fall more naturally with some time before making an appointment to return for a fix. A little while after making my new appointment I began to notice that all of my hair was choppy and uneven while I was out with company. Everything was jagged and my layers were very roughly done, leaving my hair looking thin and ends feeling like they were worse than when I came in. My friends even noticed how uneven my hair was and tried to match my ends and locks together straight down my back and couldn't even do so.. and with the next few wash of my hair it just kept looking worse for wear. Which has seriously set me to tears each time I exam my hair. With some contemplating, I had to cancel my appointment in fear that the only way to fix my hair was to cut some shorter and to even it out. Having to hope that it wouldn't turn out as another disaster. Unfortunately it will be a long time before I can muster up the courage to come back to this salon, even though the ladies at the front desk were so kind.I just can't come back to this stylist. read more

Just tried Medalyn after losing my stylist at another salon when she moved out of state. Had tried three other salons...with disastrous results. I wear my hair very, very short and I have "cowlicks" everywhere...which makes my hair very difficult to work with. I saw Melissa at Medalyn and she was fabulous. More on her later. But first...when I walked in the first time to make an appt, I was greeted very professionally by a friendly, helpful front desk person. Today, when I got there I was again greeted perfectly. I was early for my appt and wanted to go down a couple of stores to a coffee shop and the front desk person at Medalyn was more than happy to call me there when they were ready for me. Perfect! The salon is really pretty...kinda shabby chic...and spotlessly clean and neat. Amazingly comfortable shampoo chairs...like padded recliners! While you are getting your shampoo, they have their massage therapist give you a hand/arm massage, which was great. Pretty chandelier in the shampoo room...but a little bright. I noticed that they cleaned the chairs after each person. I love clean salons!! My hair had been absolutely butchered by my previous cut, at a different place of course, and Melissa was able to show me what was done and was able to fix it. She was knowledgeable and did a great job. All in all, a very good experience! I will wait to add another star when I try the facials and massages (and I am picky because I am a licensed esthetician and certified massage therapist). Price was $40 (but new clients get a 20% discount...which was really nice...I added what I saved to Melissa's tip). One thing I dont want to skimp on is a salon...you are paying for their experience and training...and you have to look at your hair every day...you want it just right! She told me what was realistic with my hair type, which I appreciate and also proves she knows her stuff. She styled my hair beauuuutifully, and gave me wand lessons so I could attempt it at home. I'm upset with my experience. I had julie re install my extensions which she promised she could do and after a few days two have fallen out and ripped out my hair along with it. I've worn extensions before and know how to take care of them. If she couldn't provide a service she shouldn't have taken my money and wasted my time by doing a crap job. Parts of my hair are sticking out on top of the extension tape so my hair breaks off easily which shouldn't have happened. She just threw them in my hair and didn't take her time. I remember having a bad experience at this salon years ago but I tried it again after a friend urged me and I'll never go back!!! They told me they'd call me back after I talked with the front desk staff and no one bother to call me so now I'm writing this. Serious waste of my time... and unneeded stress. read more

I simply requested highlights and was very surprised when I checked out and the bill was $70 higher compared to my previous visit. I was sick of driving across the entirety of Georgia for a haircut, so I found this gem within walking distance. The inside is really well decorated and does not feel like a shopping plaza at all. It's an Aveda salon which I can always count on for quality and their delicious hot tea. And I started getting my hair cut by Tony as a random "who's free?" choice and he's basically the most amazing genius ever. I am trying to grow out my short hair, and he's managed to keep it looking neat and stylish without taking any length off whatsoever. I was a long time customer of Van Michael Salon in Buckhead. Unable to get a last minute "emergency" appointment I was forced to give Madalyn a try. Well, that first visit turned me into a loyal customer the past several years. Medalyn far exceeds any Salon I have visited in the Atlanta area. They are extremely customer focussed and have such a caring and friendly staff. I have had the opportunity to use several stylists over the years at Medalyn. They are all extremely knowledgeable and well trained on Aveda products. Plus, they are excellent listeners to what the client hopes to accomplish. They make suggestions only at your request and never push you to any extreme. Kayla is Amazing and she make every visit so wonderful !!! The new Salon location is beautifully decorated. They are very thoughtful the moment you enter the door offering you a beverage, a snack, and even a hand massage in a very relaxing environment. My hairdresser, Patrick, started working at this salon so I made an appointment for a full dye. When I walked in I was instantly blown away! Loved the old-fashioned, french feel that they incorporated throughout. To put it simply, I love the ambiance of this salon because it is truly a unique look and classy. They use top products, including Aveda, and everyone was more than courteous to me. One small detail I noticed was the fact they served me a berry spritzer including an ice cube with a raspberry frozen in it. I left there looking and feeling like a million bucks! read more

I had been looking for a good salon after moving to the Kennesaw area, and I was very impressed with Medalyn! A friend had recommended them to me, and had explained that they have levels of stylists and the price varies depending on the stylist, so I knew basically what to expect. The master stylists are a little pricey, but definitely worth the money. I went from a long bob to a pixie cut and I was apprehensive because it was such a drastic cut, but Zane was great and took the time to ask a lot of questions and really make sure I got what I wanted. This was my second time at this salon, first at the new location. Everyone there is so nice. They provide great customer service and make you feel welcome. I see Joy for my locks :). She is, beyond a doubt, the best stylist I have ever had. She takes the time to listen and makes great suggestions to ensure you will look your best. Not only is she extremely talented, she is so personable. I just love her personality. Besides a top of the line cut and color, you also get a warm head wrap and scalp massage using Aveda products. While you are relaxing in their super comfy rinse chairs, on top of everything else, you get a hand and arm massage. What could be better? All this is standard with your cut and color. I feel their prices are average for a high quality salon. I also think it's really great that they are open on Sundays, perfect way to spend the afternoon. read more

Our experience at Medalyn was quite negative--particularly given we spent more than $400 there on a one-process color-and-cut.  We had booked an appointment at Medalyn Salon as a birthday gift to my daughter, who wanted professional advice and help to transition her hair to grey.  We were assigned to "senior colourist" Alaina.  For reasons we don't understand, Alaina soon showed that she did not want to work collaboratively with us--and unfortunately, by the time we figured this out, it was too late in the process and we were too embarrassed to simply walk out of the salon and go elsewhere. (We are really sorry we didn't, but we kept hoping things would get better.) Alaina was noticeably aloof, uninterested in our input, and dismissive. She was abrupt when we expressed curiosity about the process, wouldn't elaborate when asked reasonable questions, and acted defensive when we spoke to the stylist that she herself had brought in to consult on our session. We get that this was right before Christmas, and maybe Alaina was having a bad day, but this is NOT the way people should feel after paying for a premium salon experience.  Also, despite lots of communication and showing of pictures, Alaina did not listen to my daughter when she asked for a layered cut.  Her hair is now a blunt cut and requires recutting.  We are very disappointed! On the positive side, assistant Grace was delightful to work with--communicative, friendly, and interested in us as people.  We are debating whether to return for correction--but are trying to figure out whether we want to do this if it involves having to return to Alaina.  We can't imagine that would be a positive experience!  On the other hand, we feel like the salon owners should know how Alaina treats clients. read more
