The front steps, at the time, were stone block, and were fragmenting. He indicated he would pitch each slab so water would not collect on it, thereby avoiding a hazard of ice during the winter months. And that he would make all the steps the same height. He sounded professional, so I hired him. He responded that the bluestone would be available by the end of May 2021. I used Venmo to pay him $735 to purchase the bluestone from a quarry, about half the quote. The remainder to be paid once the job was completed. Needless to say, the job was not completed by the end of May. He had a variety of excuses over the months; his truck caught on fire, he had his hip replaced; he needed additional work on his truck. Then in November 2021, he refused to take my calls. After many emails, texts, phone calls, using other phone numbers to reach him, and threatening Nick with a lawsuit, he finally responded, and confirmed he would finish the contracted work. Early December 2021, he finally arrived with the bluestone, complaining he cracked one of them and would not be able to complete the job. He only spent a few hours on the job, complaining all the while about one thing or another. The steps look nice but, despite his initial promises, the steps were not set up to all be at the same height, and I found he had not pitched the slabs to shed water, thus creating a hazard in the winter once the rain or snow melt turns to ice. For that reason, I then had to spend an additional $1,000+ to purchase heated stair mats to keep the stones free of ice. A needless expense if he had done the job correctly, as he originally said he would. I have never been more frustrated with a contractor in all my life. I see the Better Business Bureau also has at least one complaint, too. Avoid this guy.
