Gym equipment is dated, not for age groups 16-50. I was a member at this gym for well over 17 years. In that time the gyms focus has shifted age demographics to accommodate seniors. Everything from classes, the design, what little new equipment there is and more. Gym equipment is dated (well maintained but dated). New technology built into new weight machines provides enhanced muscle stimulation. Most of the equipment has been in the gym for over 17 years. Additionally, an annual charge to members goes into a pot for updates. One of the most recent updates was for the purchase of cross training equipment that is kept under lock and key for only training with a purchase of a trainer. Other reasons not to attend: humidity from the pool causes mold growth in some areas, there's little to no room for stretching or performing body weight exercises such as box jumps, kettlebell swings or even push ups. read more

this place is awesome. it has an indoor pool. it opens at 5 am. it is the only indoor pool within 30 mile radius open at 5am. the staff are friendly. they have doctors there. you can get a start up fitness examination. it is a great place to work out. it has an indoor track, fitness classes, and baby sitting. it is not 24 hours. who needs access to a 24 hour gym in Macon, Georgia any way? this is the best gym where I have ever held a membership for more than a year. The location is great. Inside looks awesome. I was amazed at the variety of fitness classes offered. the showers are not gang showers like the ones offered in Air Force Basic training. it has individual dressing areas you walk into immediately after you take a shower. so you don't have to be offensively overly exposed after you shower. they offer towel service too. for me, a swimmer, this is perfect. I use their towels so inside of my car doesn't smell like chlorine all day. for the elderly, it offers a silver slippers program. the pool has a ramp with rails so you can get in and out without having to climb a ladder. it also has treadmills, elliptical machines, rowing machines, weight training machines, and free weights. i wish all gyms were like this one. however, if everybody was great then this one could not outshine them as it does so well. First of all, even though this is the gym for the health center, the employees routinely do not wear a mask over their nose and mouth, or if they do, the lower and raise it every time they talk. I was visiting from out of town and called and asked about a guest pass. They said it was good for 24 hours but when I returned , they said I had to pay again. I attend this gym with my sister whenever I'm in Macon for a visit, and I have to say, they impress me every time! It's got a wiiiiide mix of folks in there, and pretty much everything you'd ever need -- an assortment of cardio equipment, weight training, track, pool, plus fitness classes. AND, the best part, since my sister is the mother of a just-turned-one-today (Happy Birthday, Mia!) baby, is that they offer FREE daycare! I'm pretty sure the reason my sister lost all her baby weight so fast is just because she couldn't pass up the opportunity to get an hour of free babysitting every day. The guest check-in process is simple and straightforward, and they have a variety of snacks and whatnot that you can purchase up at the front, as well as some tables where you can sit down to eat or rest or even work, if you needed to. i signed up here because it's part of the medical center i work for and i get a big discount. there's an indoor heated pool, raquetball, and a full indoor basketball court, as well as a very large aerobics room. they offer dozens of classes, from sports conditioning to a very good and strenuous spinning class. they also offer personal training and fitness assessments for extra charges. there are plenty of machines and weights and i've never had a problem getting a workout in, but then again, i go early in the morning. i've heard the 5pm rush makes the gym very crowded. it does have a Silver Sneakers program, and macon is full of "senior citizens", so there are quite a few of the "mature" population there. it's not an LA Fitness or Crunch or 24 Hour fitness, so don't expect that, but it is a very nice gym and people do remember you and who you are. there are decent showers and good locker rooms and even a sauna, which is nice. as with any gym, there are quite a few people just milling around, not really working out, but when i go in the morning, it restores my faith in macon that there are actually semi-healthy people that live here and care about their health. read more

In Macon for a criminal defense college and was in need of a pool bigger than the 12x12 hotel pool. You can buy guest passes for $10 per day or 8 days for $50. Excellent amenities. Spin classes, nice clean locker room, all the free weights and machines you could want, and cardio equipment. It's an excellent alternative to the nearby Planet Fitness, especially if you need a pool. (Not a big pool, just 25 yards, but it works). The staff member I spoke to was very nice. read more

Very clean fitness center. They have a pool, walking tracks, all cardio machines and weights. They also have very friendly staff that will help you with the equipment. Their showers are nice and the faculty is very big. They also have massage therapist on staff that you can make appointments with. The Wellness Center is worth its weight in gold. At one point, I thought I was missing out on something when my friends signed up at two other gyms in the area. I followed suit to one of them. Lo and behold, that was the worst mistake of my life. The wellness center has convenient hours; it's equipment area is more spacious when compared with the other centers in this area. There is always room to workout and the people are friendly and they don't mind letting you share use of the equipment. There is the extra motivation that comes from knowing that there are members around me who have been a part of the center since it began to operate. Fitness trainers are ready and willing to answer questions and to explain use of any of the equipment in the center. For about the same price as other centers in the area, you get racquetbal courts, basketball courts, a swimming pool, a sauna and an indoor track. there are numerous free classes available throughout the day. They have effectively eliminated any excuses not to exercise. Way to go guys. read more
