We attended this resturdant after Melbourne cup (sober, just looking for a good dinner as our lunch wasn't filling enough), we were greeted by a rather grumpy older man who told us that as we didn't have a booking we had to sit outside, this was fine but when we asked if we could have the outdoor heater turned off, we were yelled out and told no, it was 30 degrees at 6pm... We sat down, the waitress was super nice, helpful and promptly took our order. About 15 minutes in, we asked a waiter if he could turn the heater off as we were all melting, he turned it off and went back inside only to be abused by the older man for turning it off. We got our food and it was great however through-out the night, I watched the older man abuse almost every single person on the waitstaff while sitting outside of the resturant but facing the main counter, it made me sick. When it came time to pay, we asked if we could split the bill in half and the older man came out with the eftpost machine, he was incredibly rude, borderline abusive. Told us to work out the amounts as he wasn't going to do it, I told him that we did not appreciate the way he had spoken to his waitstaff or to us as paying customers and he should be a bit more appreciative for our business despite the fact that we didn't have a reservation. He was rude boardline abusive and we left. He needs to retire... or I really hope the waitstaff quit and find a better place to work. It's all really a shame because the food is great but the service and attitude is horrendous... Never again. read more

The family took me here for my Birthday dinner (don't ask... . . Old is all the answer you will get). I love good Greek food and the food here is very good indeed. We started with some entrees - dolmades, spanakopita and some prawns in a spicy tomato sauce that I'm not even going to try to type the Greek name of (super, super tasty... If you come here you have to try the prawns). For mains, I had a slow roasted shoulder of lamb with lemon potatoes because you can't go to a Greek place and not eat slow roasted lamb. My son had squid stuffed with rice, my daughter opted for a stuffed chicken breast and my wife went for lamb back strap wrapped in filo with mushrooms and figs. I sampled a bit of everything and it was all lovely. All washed down with a surprisingly good glass of Greek red. I couldn't face dessert. The rest of the family could and it all looked very tasty but after an huge pile of roast lamb I couldn't manage even a small taste. Service was very friendly. Market Street doesn't feel like the place you'd find an amazing Greek restaurant. It's too glassy and corporate. But in amongst it all (and making the most of its glass surrounds) you'll meet Medusa. No, this restaurant won't turn you to stone, instead you'll be met with smiling staff and absolutely delicious food. The first time I came here was a total shot in the dark. Dubious about my surroundings and kinda wishing we'd waited for a seat at deVine up the street, I didn't think I could be easily won over. But it turns out they had me from the warm pita bread and eggplant dip (though, to be fair, eggplant is my weakness). Then came the mouthwatering Garithes Saganaki (classic baked prawns in tomato topped with crumbled fetta- $23) and simple but oh so tasty Arni Souvlaki (raditional lamb souvlaki served with tzatziki, spicy salad and chips - $29.50), followed by coffee and complimentary lokum. Easily my favorite Greek restaurant in Sydney... and I love Greek food! Been here a few times now, and have enjoyed a pretty wide selection over multiple visits. Best dolmades and tzatziki I've had, well, maybe ever. Saganaki is tasty, but not flambéed table-side (loses style points). Lamb souvlaki is very nice. Souzoukakia (BBQ lamb meatballs) are good, but not as amazing as I thought they'd be (both times I orders them ["...fool me twice..."]). Have had a salt & pepper prawn dish from the 'Specials' menu a couple of times -- really tasty! Greek salad comes with a huge slab of feta (as it should!). And the galaktoboureko (dessert), while not the absolute best I've ever had, is pretty damn good. Delicious food, great service, huge portions, solid location... Went with several coworkers and ordered several dishes to share. The lamb shoulder is definitely a must get along with an order of the domaldes. Both pretty amazing and you won't be disappointed. Heracles is a Greek God and he is also one of my colleagues. He was proud that he chose Medusa Greek Taverna for our end of year Christmas lunch bash as he is a fan of haloumi and apparently they do a good one here among other traditional dishes (and HE is a Greek GOD and GODS know this stuff). I'm a fan of the European concept of the family table - big groups, lots of food, fun and laughter but at Christmas functions this concept translates into having the set menu. Now I have to confess this: when I found out we were going to a Greek restaurant I wanted to send one of Medusa's serpents to Heracles. It reminded me of a menu I had to suffer at a previous Christmas work function - the only savour being copious amounts of retsina just to drown out the flavourless stodge that was presented to us as Greek national cuisine. The big loser that day were the Greeks exepect for the one that owned the place after he tallied the drinks bill. My unfounded bias and preconceptions of Medusa started to evaporate when I entered the restaurant - it was modern, fresh and light-filled space with smart art work, contemporary furniture, linen tablecloths (none of that usual Greek restaurant kitsch of cement columns, fish nets, Alexander the Great busts and ambient Zorba the Greek music). Despite Medusa's beauty I was still stone cold skeptical that her treachery was yet to be revealed. First up were the dips (or mezzes): taramasalata (fish roe dip) and tzatziki (a blend of Greek yoghurt, cucumber and garlic), all served with warm sliced pita bread. They were served with a Greek Salad of tomato, cucumber, capsicum, Spanish onions, fetta, olives and wild oregano. It was a great first impression. The taramasalata was creamy, salty and had just the right fish roe pizzazz to it not to be offensive. When it came to the tzatzkiki I will for now ever be guilty of committing as crime if I ever bought it in a supermarket tub again. The salad was fresh and appropriate. Could it get better? Yes. There were also some Greek starters: spicy Greek sausage, dolamdes, olives and the halloumi (grilled Cypriot cheese). If I was ever skeptical of anything that came out of Greece (besides Demis Roussos), it would be a nation that digs eating grilled salty goat's cheese. It may not be as beautiful as a hand-crafted and buxom Italian ricotta but its rustic charm and genuineness won over everyone at the table. It was salty and seasoned with oregano and olive oil and easily out shone the spanakopita by a long shot. There was also a serving of prawn saganaki which is a prawn dish baked in a rich and spicy tomato sauce topped with crumbed fetta and served with crusty bread. Mind-blowing good, and yes, dipping the bread into the sauce is allowed. For the main course I chose the Medusa Greek Lamb was a whole slow-baked lamb shoulder served with lemon potatoes and peas. I couldn't have been more delighted - tender marinated lamb saturated in its own juices and intertwined with lemon, salt and oregano. Suffer the vegetarians at our table who were left with a mousaka. Then there was the dessert - the heart-attack inducing galactobouriko - a Greek custard roll accompanied with poached pear and vanilla bean ice cream. My taste-buds wanted more but my aorta started convulsing. Finally, in true Greek tragedy spirit, Heracles commanded ouzo and out it came - in bottles for our Greek God - and as a result we left Medusa, not in chariots, but slightly stone faced and floating above Mount Olympus. With a decor and attitude one would expect in a serious business-orientated city restaurant Medusa spoils you and not the food. Perfect for a business lunch or no-fuss group feast - Medusa takes Greek cuisine up to fifth gear. read more

The perfect fine dining spot for tourists staying in central Sydney. The location was accessible from both the CBD and Darling Harbour precincts. We had: - the mezze plate ($36) (taramosalata, tzatziki, halloumi, country-style sausage, dolmades, olives, pickled vegetables with pita bread); - Medusa's Arni sto Fourno ($32) (whole slow-baked traditional lamb shoulder, lemon potatoes and peas); and - the fish of the day ($34) (barramundi with risotto). Nice vibe, great service, average food. I was lucky enough to be taken to Medusa for my birthday a few weeks back. Greek food is one of those that I dabble in cooking occasionally so getting to eat at an award winning one was a treat that had me salivating all day! The night itself was fantastic; the restaurant atmosphere and staff were faultless and if this were just about service it would be a 4/5 star rating. Unfortunately, the food was an overall disappointment. We ordered the mezze plate and Zucchini flowers, so it may be that our choice was not what they are renowned for, but if you do find yourself at Medusa for a meal i would recommend steering clear of our choices, as i found the taste and textures bland and it left me wondering what the hype was all about. The redeeming feature of our meal was the Loukoumades, delicious home made donuts smothered in honey and nuts. These, like the service, were a definite 4+ Despite the fact that I was disappointed, i would give Medusa another go and try their mains. read more

Stopped in with the family for a nice weeknight dinner to get out of the house. It's an elegant and warm space with very friendly and attentive staff that welcomed our 8 and 10 year old kids and accommodated them nicely. We started with the mezze platter and were pleasantly surprised with how large the portions were! Generously sized bowls of olives, tatziki, teramosalata, flanked by 4 slabs of haloumi on one side, sausages & dolmades on the other. It was accompanied by ample pita bread. The main portions were quite large! After the generous mezze platter, I was not able to finish my main course, which was the slow-roasted lamb shoulder. The lamb was moist and very tender after the slow cook. I recommend this dish if you are feeling carnivorous! Medusa is one of my two favorite Greek restaurants in Australia, the other being the Hellenic Republic in Melbourne. What is it that makes Medusa so good? For me it's simple, they make the most delicious BBQ Octopus. I've ordered it every time I'm in Sydney, and each time it is just wonderful. Octapedes in the Antipodes with Horta and a glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It doesn't get any more delicious than this. read more

Went and checked this place out on Tuesday while we were visiting Sydney. Overall, a fantastic location and great service. The food was just about average but good portion sizes so bring an appetite. I had the 'Exohiko Arni' and it was just simply exquisite. The medium/rare lamb was surprisingly tender and the cheese went well with it although a tad salty than usual for me. Nonetheless I love the presentation of this dish with the pastry wrapped around it. This helped hold all the ingredients together while the sauce and dates went trickling around it. Served with a glass of red wine and my belly was very happy for the night. Ahh this was a dish that broke the chain and got me trying something different for once. Medusa does good greek food indeed. The service was well above expectations. I enjoyed the waiter's frivolous attempt to get me and my friends to pronounce the dishes in the menu. We gave it a go but to no avail. Got a little tongue tied afterwards. We were able to sit at the table for quite a long time even after we have finished our meal. Most restaurants would attempt to throw us out to make way for new customers but they were happy to let us continue our conversations. If i can make one change, it would have to be the one toilet that was available for their customers. They need at least two! Nevermind. It was a great experience.
