Very disappointed with hair cut, too sharp and severe looking, especially on the fringe - and especially at paying £43.50!!

Unfortunately as a recent graduate it was a little out of my price range and too frivolous for someone on a budget. For me however, a leg wax prior to holiday time is a must. Given the unpleasantness of the treatment it was (almost) a pleasant experience. In a calm, clean, quiet salon I was lead to a warmly lit waiting room and offered a drink. The well groomed receptionist and beauticians weren't as aloof as those in other salon despite and my waxer chatted to me all the way through as though we were old friends. The treatment itself was fantastic as the woman explained they use hot wax that they rip off rather than using cloth strips. This makes for a cleaner, easier and (marginally) less painful wax that lasted longer than others I have had. This is a more expensive place than I would usually go but worth it as it was a top quality job. They do give a student discount but I would say this is a place for the people of Edinburgh who have more disposable income than the average student. My plan is to ask for Zen gift vouchers at Christmas and head back for the pomegranate facial!

I visit Zen In Bruntsfield all the time in my mind you couldn't get any better! When i moved to…read moreEdinburgh i was in need of a beauticians initially for my eyebrows to be done and theres quite a few salons in Bruntsfield/Morningside but Zen stood out because of there tasteful appearance and professional reception service. I first booked in for HD Brows which by the way is so worth it. But now i regularly have a sports massage , myriad facial and my hd eyebrows done. It is a bit more expensive than what i usually pay but the service of the receptionist, the beauticians doing the treatment are of such high standard. I now use their products on my face and it is a big difference on my skin. They do block bookings which can save you a bit of money in the long run, student discount and vouchers to purchase. I would definetly recommend this salon if your looking for a real pampering session, they also have branches over in Hanover street and Teviot Place.

I use moisturisers. There I am out. I have used plenty of these products over the years…read more And here is a shop specialising in all areas of body lotions, face creams, retinol based eye treatments and pharmaceutical grade lotions. The shop is bright and looks like a mix of a beauty salon, dentist and a pharmacy. Many white and mint colours. Mirrors everywhere and fresh faced shop assistants in white labcoats Anita A and I were snooping around until we got a very nice girl offering her a 5 min consultation with the promise of 5 samples that could be used for a couple of days. So she went fo this, but because Anita already used moisturiser before entering into the shop the test for skin type and condition showed up as 'oily' on all parts. So I think this was a bit flawed. Also the lifting of the cheek and showing of the lines is a great sales technique. Afterwards she duly supplied Anita with the available oil free samples - however some were not available and those were replaced. I did asked about the male range and she informed me that they were the first company to supply a dedicated male grooming range. Prices are not cheap, but reasonably affordable as they supply larger quantities. However a dark eye treatment for men 15ml was billed at £25.. I'm not that desperate yet.. 3 Stars from me as they didn't really feel any different than other skin care products. Also I wasn't offered a consultation.

For this reason I drink huge amounts of water and do mad things like only use honey to wash my face. However, little gets solved and I still can't wear foundation for longer than 20 minutes - a real world problem for Ms. Tomatoface here. So, I just went in to Kiehl's for a consultation and I came out a very happy camper. The lady listened to my every concern, treated me to what was basically a mini facial while she explained the active ingredients in each product. Although some of the science was a bit dubious (though, with anything beauty related it always is). I had the same problem as Anita A did in Rayan's review - I was wearing moisturiser so the skin test wasn't accurate - but I explained this to the lady and she adjusted her recommendations appropriately. At the end I had six products recommended to me, which were written down in a leaflet for me to take home, with stars next to those she felt were a priority for quickest results, and I was given a bunch of samples (she even sneakily told me how to make the samples last a wee bit longer so, score!) Overall it was a lovely visit. I'm really happy with the recommendation and right now my skin feels wonderful!

Some things have worked better than others, some have been more expensive, I've tried cheap things, I've tried combination products but I still don't have the perfect skin. At the moment I'm using something called Quinoderm which is effectively just bleach in a lotion form to zap any blemishes. It actually burns my skin when I put it on and I think if I continue to use it as much as I am, I'll end up looking like Michael Jackson. That's why I've recently realised that I need to be a bit kinder to my skin (even though it isn't very kind to me). I've been so determined to get rid of my horrible blemishes that I'd put anything on my skin to make them go away regardless of how much bleach/alcohol is in it, I just want to see immediate results! That's why I've recently started trying out products from Neal's Yard Remedies. Everything here is natural so you can rest assured that it will work in harmony with your skin and won't cause damage to it. The cleaners, toners and anti-blemish treatments are very gentle and soft and unlike my Quinoderm, don't burn your skin. When I went in and explained my spot problem to a friendly staff member here I was pointed in the direction of the Mahonia facial cleanser and witch hazel water. The cleanser is great as it is fragrance free and very gentle so even if I get some in my eyes it doesn't hurt at all. Although the effects haven't been as immediate as my bleach filled anti-blemish buddy I am gradually noticing a difference and I'm hoping that the results will be longer lasting! It's very reassuring to know that I'm putting chemical free products on my face and for something that's natural the prices aren't too ridiculous either.
