Bus supposed to leave at 810. Doesn't arrive till 830. We sit on bus for 30 min, it's not starting, engine keeps turning over. Bus finally starts - 5 min into the trip, the driver announces the check engine light is on and we have pull over at first rest stop which is 30 min from our car... had to uber to our car to then drive to our destination. The real kicker? Customer service. The WORST I've ever dealt with. They did not care at all about our polite request for a refund and will not issue any type of refund until the bus' trip is officially completed. Can't wait to call back later so they can tell me they have no evidence we got off the bus and therefore won't be issuing a refund. Never again. read more

I am very disappointed with MEGABUS' services I pay a express ticket from DC to NY According to the itinerary 2:00 pm to 6 30pm with one stop. We stopped 2 times already. We are now 2 hours far away to arrive to NY. Really bad service and very disorganized. Dont waste your money. Although most of my trips using Megabus have been reliable, there have been a couple times more recently where my trip to NY was supposed to take 4 hrs and 30 minutes, and there were so many delayed stops along the way that in total, it was 7 hours. No one told us what was going on and the reasoning for the delays which was frustrating. I don't believe megabus does refunds but I seriously wish they did in these instances. read more

I purchased 2 tickets for July 29 ,2018 from Washington DC to New York. However, on the email confirmation it said I had reserved tickets for July 30th, 2018. On July 29. 2018 I went to board the bus and I was sent to the standby line because of this. I was told that I was not able to use that ticket for that date and before boarding the bus I was forced to spend an extra $40 per ticket ($80 total). All three customer service representatives informed me that as per the terms and conditions these tickets are not refundable and to change the date of the ticket for July 30th I would need to spend another $12.00. This is unacceptable. As per Megabus terms and conditions (Section C Sentence 3) "Megabus.com is only responsible for issuing the confirmation in accordance with your request made on this website". Megabus has not yet refunded me, I emailed this to their customer service and no response yet. read more

I've taken Megabus to and from Philly & Washington DC from NYC many times and mostly it's been a decent ride. Sometimes the drivers are a little overly chatty over the speaker or a little too aggressive when driving but overall it's been a fine experience for the price. However, I'm giving 2 stars because I'm on a drive to DC right now and it's 38 degrees outside (feels much colder) but there's no heat on in the bus. It's so cold and uncomfortable in here that I wish I had a face mask to prevent my nose from freezing. Everyone on the bus is freezing but the heat still hasn't been turned on. Moving forward, I'll think twice about choosing Megabus when it's the winter. read more

Never take megabus! First my laptop got stolen when I was asleep, they have cameras in the bus and did not even offer to look at them because it clearly was one of their employees! The bus is always delayed because the have to "switch drivers" so we are currently in the middle of no where between washington DC and new york city.. have been here for over one hour and a half!! Called customer service several times and they have no information and they answer is: call in 20 minutes for an update. So current situation is stranded in the middle of a highway, for over one hour, no hopes of leaving anytime soon, and still 2 hours away from washington. There's so many other bus services with way better service and for the same price! Not worth it!!! read more

Writing this today as I am taking the 4:30pm bus from NYC to Annapolis, MD. The NYC departure point is a disorganized mess. I was directed to the WRONG BUS by the staff there, only to find out shortly before departure that the bus was bound for Baltimore, MD only, and not Annapolis, MD Confirm passengers' tickets, use a barcode system to quickly scan and verify. Have better signage at the 34th st departure point for ALL destinations of EVERY bus, and do a better job at separating lines to avoid passenger confusion or the possibility of them taking the wrong bus. read more

Who doesn't have a love/hate relationship with Megabus. The good- they have routes to a ton of locations - including Newark, DE!! - for cheap. When there's no traffic, this is for sure the fastest way from NY to DE and vice versa. The drivers are generally pretty good drivers and if you're lucky, you may even have a whole row to yourself. Also, if DE is your point of departure, there is a big parking lot where you can park your car for free (or for a very minimal fee) while you're away. The bad - I don't think the bus from NY to DE has ever managed to leave on time. On average, during a non-holiday and in perfectly good weather conditions, the buses run around 15-30 minutes behind schedule. During a holiday and/or bad weather conditions, I've had to wait over an hour (sometimes 1.5 hours plus in the rain/snow- at which point I say eff it and cancel my trip). The bus stop is also all the way out between 11th and 12th ave- a total pain for obvious reasons. Finally, not that this is unique to Megabus by any means (especially considering all the shady Chinatown buses that had previously dominated the northeast bus scene)- but I've definitely been on trips where the bus breaks down. I think only one of these incidents happened on Megabus (out of the probably 25+ trips I've taken with the line- so by no means a bad record). We ended up having to wait almost 2 hours for another bus to come pick us up- thankfully at a rest area off the jersey turnpike. Our bus driver kept us abreast of the situation the entire time and even helped calm down some of the more of the anxious folks who really should've taken their xanax that day. All in all, really can't complain given how cheap the tix are and how convenient the Newark location is. Just be prepared to wait!! read more

Have taken Friday 4.40p to NYC a few times now - only left once on time, all other times within 20 minutes of scheduled departure time. Buses make continuous journeys- discharging passengers, then next bus quickly queuing up for next trip. Drivers on DE route decent. Buses generally clean and passengers vary in age ( college, families, older adults, etc.) Sunday mornings (10.20a) from NY to DE always leave on time but line in NYC is confusing since DE on same line as Baltimore / DC bus and they all have similar departure times . read more

Mega bus has THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. They are 1st never on time and 2nd have the rudest people work for them. I was on a bus from Newark, DE to NYC on a Sunday afternoon and the bus came a half hour late. The bus attendant or driver was incredibly pushy, rude, and almost started a fight with me when I sighed near her. She asked me if I had a problem and I said no, but then held up the line to wait for me to continue to speak to somehow give her a volatile answer back. I did not. This was possibly the most absurd thing I've been through as her attitude and fire starting behavior towards me held up a line of over 50 people. After this ride, I will never ride again with this company. You think "oh well it's cheap" - well it's not. Prices DO NOT start at $1, that is false advertising, but instead around $25 and can go up to $30 one way. There are far better quality, friendlier, and safer bus companies out there. I took a 2:10 bus from New York to Delaware. The bus was delayed by 2.5 hours. The bus driver / megabus people told us nothing. Finally after two mechanics it was fixed. The bus got us into delaware 2.5 hours late. When I contacted megabus I was told they refused to give me a refund. Needless to say I will not be riding with them again. read more

This is the WORST bus company with whom I have ever drove. I DON'T recommend this company. Choose another one! First: the bus left ONE HOUR LATE from Union Station Washington DC. Second: after a two hour drive, the driver tell us he has to stop in the middle of no where New Jersey so they change drivers because is was on his limit of hours that he can drive. The second driver took TWO hours to arrive here!! Right now is 11pm and its the time that my bus was supposed to be getting in NYC though we are stilk stuck in this place with probably 3 more hours to go. My trip was from NYC to Newark, DE scheduled to leave at 11 and arrive at 2. We ended up leaving at 11:45 then stopping in Jersey to switch bus drivers. We waited 35 minutes for the next driver to come. My expected arrival time is now 3:30. I could of hitchhiked and got here faster. Also, they always advertise that their tickets are $1. I've never spent a $1 and this ride was $31 one way. read more

Watch out ! because they will be not give you any notification that they will be late for more than 20mins and they will not provide any refund for any reason even if it is their fault, their customer service will basically tell you there is nothing they can or will do for you, so before buy a ticket, be careful ! because you might miss your bus and waste your money as well ! read more

First time on Megabus. Husband and I in our mid 40's traveled to NYC from Newark, De. Got there a little later than anticipated, about 5:52 for the 6am bus. Top was full, but we found 2 seats together riding backwards on the first floor. We've ridden backwards on the train and it doesn't bother me. The seats were at a table so that was handy but left scant legroom for my husband. He didn't take me up on my offer to switch places since I had no one across. There were a few single seats elsewhere scattered, most with backpacks on them with riders clearly praying you would just keep moving. The bus left at 6 sharp. The driver drove a little faster and more erratically than I would've liked but we made it. He made an announcement for us to get off the bus as quickly as possible at 28th street bc its an MTA stop and the police can ticket the bus company as well as all the passengers. Made us feel like outlaws, so cool but we had no issues. The outlets worked, but the wifi was too slow so I gave up. Didn't use the bathroom but people were going in and coming out in one piece. The seat was comfortable and the bus was clean. The passengers were pretty quiet and sleepy at 6 am. The drop off on New York was quick and convenient. After a great day in NYC, we grabbed pizza in the theater district and headed toward the departure point pretty early bc we weren't sure what to expect. People described it as looking like north Philly and oh so far out of the way. Having graduated from Temple, I've learned that most people that describe things as "looking like North Philly" have no idea what they are talking about. This was no exception. The departure from NY is at 34th street and 11th ave. you are almost in the Hudson at that point and people were riding by going to the well used bike path and park along the water. There is the newish looking Javits Center across the street. We ate in the Times Square/ theater area near 44th and 8th ave. the walk then is 10 streets, which are very short and 3.5 avenues, which are longer. We walked down 8th ave to 34th, which was fine, then down 34th which is pretty populated for the first block, then less so but we never felt unsafe. There were enough people walking to and from the bus or whatever they were doing. The mcDonalds on the left before you get to the stop is the last thing around and there are no services beyond the stop, we looked. Several vendors are set up right there. There is also a deli on the right about a block before the mcd's. It's a well lit, wide street. The ongoing construction and unfinished road close to the stop make it look worse than it is. At the stop, there are signs with destinations written and an employee of megabus. The signs were only kind of in the correct place but everyone was asking if they were in the right place anyway and everyone just shared info. The employee would walk up and down every few minutes to help direct people. She even got a few ppl on the earlier bus to Washington. There is no shelter and no where to sit. we got there an hour prior and were near the front. 45 minutes prior a decent line started. Those half hour and under ppl were baffled that so many ppl were in front of them. Yes! Go to the back of the line! We left on time, to the second. The ride home was almost silent with tired souls. We got in on time, no traffic. The ride to ny was almost 10 minutes early but I liked how the female driver at night drove more cautiously and we were still on time. The location on 896 at the university of Delaware is so convenient!!! We will definitely be back. I created an account with Delaware's parking dept to get a parking pass for $4 for the day. Not sure if I had to on the weekend but it was a little unclear and I didn't want my car towed. This was a more convenient and inexpensive alternative to the train. read more

I use them as a last resort. Rude drivers and the passengers aren't any better. They're usually noisy, take up multiple seats instead of just the seat they are sitting in. Expect delays and the worst part is having to wait outside in inclement weather. Greyhound is the about the same price and at least has an indoor waiting area. read more

They sell more tickets than the seats they have. When I told them there was no seat, you cannot sell more tickets than seats you have.The man in charge said: I am not the one sell the tickets. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I have had very bad experiences using the Megabus stop at Lot 6 of University of Delaware. Several times the bus has left 10-15 mins before the scheduled depature time leaving you behind with no prospects of refund. On other occasions the bus arrived more than 2 hours late leaving you out in the cold to wait. Megabus wouldnt refund you your money even if its their fault. I will definitely consider using another service before using this option. read more

I get put on a ten minute hold for them to tell me that the bus is "estimated to be running one hour late." This is my second time taking this bus on a round trip destination. My first experience was great. This one horrible. The drive was late. The attendees at Union Station did not inform us of the delay. We had to ask is there a problem. It was cold. When the bus arrived, the driver nor the attendees apologize. Boarding the bus was cool but the drivers attitude was rude. He was rude to the passenger who put there bags where they didn't belong. Although they were in the wrong, he was very rude. Finally rolling, we get to Delaware to drop off and pick up and what happens.....Mega over booked the bus. The passengers that board stated they were waiting for almost an hour for the bus to arrive in the cold. 4-5 people didn't have seats. While the bus driver tried to work it out, which I do understand because he represents the company and probably had a little compassion because it was Freezing. He leaves the door open. How about invite them in and close the door. Now we all are cold. When asked if he can close the door he replied "I am trying to take care of my passengers". Well what are we chopped liver???? Finally I think he heard his own dumb answer and closed the door. Now the bus is probably going to be an hour late to our arrival. Again, no apologies from the driver nor the company express any empathy through him. I guess you get what you pay for. This is not a rocket science project. I am a regular rider to NYC since my family is there. Since they changed the Newark, DE to NYC bus to be a mid-stop from DC to NYC, the Friday night bus I take has never been on time. There was a time +1 hour late and there was one 2 hour. Once in July '15 did not show up after +2 hours. Good luck if you are in the blazing sun or pouring rain or winter snow. On top of that, they make stop on the NJ turnpike to "change driver". If lucky, it takes a few minutes but there was a time that it took + 50 mins to "change driver" when the bus was idling most of the time (a clear violation of NJ idling law). A 2.5 hour trip turned into 5 hours or more. When late and called, they can't even give any update. The app is mostly useless. Drivers took his slow motion time to board people and start the bus, even he is already +30 mins late. Do they even care a bit? Asked for a ticket reissue after +2 hr wait and bus did not show up. All I got was refund for a ticket I brought way ahead and no refund on the return trip. Operator said that's the RULE and I the manager does not talk to customer. My +2 hr wait under the sun doesn't even worth anything? Not to mention my weekend was ruined. Not fair; bad business. They only care about their profit now making it a mid-stop. Not fair for the DC people also to have them waste at least 30 mins for the reroute. The price had also jumped after they kicked Peterpan bus out using low cost tactic. read more

An occasional traveler to NYC, having used Amtrak,the Chinatown bus,and Greyhound from Wilmington, or driving to Trenton and then using NJ Transit, we used Megabus for the first time this week. For $8.50 round trip for two of us we certainly have no complaints. The bus was almost an hour late getting to NYC, but ETA was around 4pm which of course is when traffic was heavy. Is there any time when traffic is light in NYC? Coming back the bus left on time and arrived within about 10 minutes of ETA. I used the Wifi to check email a couple of times and had no problems. Others around me seemed to be connected or working as needed. We would certainly consider Megabus again. For a couple of retired folks, it's a cost effective service. The bus was clean, driving was safe, and employees were courteous! read more

This is a terrible service. In fact, it was a disservice to me. My bus was an hour and a half late with no explanation. The passengers were loud and inconsiderate. I will never ride Megabus again, nor recommend it. Do not take this bus. Let's hope this business goes under sometime very soon. read more
