I am updating this review to one star because megabus took away the Pittsburgh to Toronto trip. Grrrrrrrr

In my 50 years, this is the first negative review! I am in awe of how this company gets away with what they do. My daughter traveled from NYC to Maryland. (2/17/18). The driver never opened the under-the-bus- compartment. My daughter waited outside the bus after informing the driver that she needed her stuff but he just drove away. She ran after the bus but he didn't stop. I called within 2 minutes of departure and was told that the driver could not be reached, we could not go to the next stop, and it would take 3-5 business days to let us know if my daughters bag was located. Well 9 days later, and 40 calls, I finally got someone. I was told that the luggage was not found and I could place a claim after it was missing 4 WEEKS! (maximum of $250) After the 4 weeks, I called several times and was on hold 2 hours and 40 minutes the DISCONNECTED! So here we are, 6 weeks later, no luggage, no claim submitted! No Customer service. read more

I traveled to NYC for the weekend and wanted to try Megabus for the first time. I took the overnight (red-eye) bus both ways, and found it to go rather quickly for 8 hours each way. In Pittsburgh, the bus picks you up at the David Lawrence Convention Center. If you pay for a "reserved" seat, you get to board first. I'd recommend paying the extra $7 to pay for one of the front row seats on the second floor; you can recline pretty far and get a great view of the road. If you're tall, any seat will probably be pretty uncomfortable for 8 hours (think airplane space). The only CON I had about my trip to NYC was the driver. Although he was initially experienced as firm but humorous with his expectations, he began being condescending and patronizing at each stop ("You are all adults, there should be no reason why you can't get back on the bus on time"). The driver from NYC to Pittsburgh was much more pleasant. What I appreciated most about the bus ride was that they switch drivers halfway through the trip (I'm not sure if this is only for the red-eye), which made me feel safer. For the decent price, I'll probably take Megabus again. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. Bus was delayed over an hour and a half making it impossible for me to attend a class I had also paid a lot of money for to attend. If I would have known operational issues were more common than not I would have never used this company. They also refuse to refund anyone for this issue even though it's not mentioned in their terms and conditions. Go figure. Don't use this company for your bus needs. read more

From making the reservation to the actual trip, each and every time, everything runs very smoothly. Your drivers are truly professional, they are very nice and very informative. They are always on time, and when time becomes a factor that may interfere with our regular scheduled time to arrive or depart, we are well informed both ways. Megabus, you have an excellent team in place and your company is surely a company who keeps their customers in mind at all times. Each team player knows their job, and they handle it so very well. Kudos to every reservationist, driver, baggage handler, etc. everyone who participates to ensure our trips are safe and secure. Pathetic, extremely rude and inconsiderate staff. Made the two of us buy two more tickets because we were carrying carry on bags with us along with the check in bags, which is apparently not allowed. Instead of being able to pay extra for the bag, the staff made us buy two whole new tickets forth $72 just for the bags and didn't even help us in the process and instead spoke very rudely my to us. read more

I've taken many many megabus's. I'd say about 8 or 9 times in the last two years. You can't beat their prices HOWEVER they lie about their services. They have free wifi that DOESNT work. Never have I ever been able to use their wifi. EVER. About 50% of the time the outlits to charge your phone or laptop DO NOT work. The drivers are usually very nice and considerate, the staff awaiting you before you get on the bus are not. Usually they are rude and rush you even if there's plenty of time before the departure. OVERALL the megabus is full of lies. I don't take them now. If I were you l, explore other options if you can. read more

Over the past 3 months I have had major problems with Megabus. Once, they picked up at a different location other than the marked bus stop and two of the students missed the bus as well as another customer that was there (I was a witness), one of the students had a medical issue also, and the second time, they would not refund or even credit us when we had to cancel. They were rude in both experiences. I will not use MegaBus again! read more

Horrible customer service. No flexibility whatsoever. Greyhound may have a less than satisfying customer base, but at least their policies aren't designed to rob you blind when THEY screw up. You're better off with greyhound. Oh, and heads up!! They'll probably randomly change your bus stop location and never tell ya. Watch out. The driver did not allow me to carry a small bag in the bus because it had rollers. The bag was really small (like a kid's school bag) but had telescoping handle with rollers. He cited some federal regulation (I tried searching for the regulation online without any success). He wanted me to buy a passenger ticket for that ($54 dollar was the last-minute price for Pittsburgh to DC). Anyway, I emptied out the content into a large Macy's shopping bag and off I went. Believe me, I have taken larger (airplane cabin type) luggage with rollers /handle on Greyhound bus several times in the past and it was never an issue. read more

Megabus in Pittsburgh is terrible. I booked a ticket for over $25 and the bus left about ten minutes earlier than it was supposed to and I was left stranded in Pittsburgh by myself....they are inconsiderate jerks and I will never ever use or recommend this company ever to anyone. The buses are not the cleanest and the staff is rude. Megabus customer service is terrible as well and dont give a crap. DO NOT RIDE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO. take a Greyhound bus. read more

Was a smooth ride roundtrip from PA to NY. The drivers were nice, the bus was clean and everything worked as advertised. Even the restroom aboard was clean. Reasonable rest stop too. I was very pleased with my 1st experience, for the cheap price it exceeded my expectations and that's coming from somebody that traveled with two young children too. My son and I took our first trip on megabus it was ok. The prices we're cool $130 for two round trip tickets from Pittsburgh to New York City. I'm sure if we would have booked earlier it would have been cheaper. The drivers were both very nice and communicative to the passengers. The wifi worked and the outlets although I didn't like that you cant watch Netflix using the wifi but whatever. My only big problem was that the seats are not comfortable at all. I thought it was just because I'm a big woman but my son and other passengers were not feeling comfort either. I guess that's what you get for paying so little. Other than that everything was fine. We arrived early both going and coming back. The ride back was a little better my son and I had two seats each to ourselves. read more

Total bargain! Will take Megabus again in the future. The drivers are very strict and will yell at you if you're talking too loudly but I guess I appreciated that. The electricity outlets and Wifi didn't work on the trip to NYC but did on the way back. read more

Pluses - it was clean, the WIFI worked, it was super cheep, website was easy to use. Negatives - The employees. Someone needs to tell Megabus management that being polite is FREE!!! It was not just one person it was every single person I encountered. I was SHOCKED at the level of rudeness. From the person who answered the customer service line, to the people checking you in to board, to the bus drivers. A smile and the words "may I help you" works so much better than "where do you think your going". Timeliness - the bus arrived in Pittsburgh right on time. The bus in New York was over 2 hours behind schedule. read more

The driver was one of the rudest people I've ever met in my life. The driver said the bag was too heavy so I took out a second bag and tried to buy a second ticket but she wouldn't let me because she said the bag was too heavy. It was a circular argument. When I tried to call her out on her faulty logic she walked away from me. The bag was not more than 50 lbs. I know this because it actually weight less than it did when I took it from the airport. read more

Horrid service. No safety plan. No caring. Got home on a 3rd bus, 6 hours late after being stuck on the side of Route 80 for 4 hours - others waited longer. Arrival time was scheduled for 8:25pm; actual arrival time 2:25am. 1st bus: No air conditioning in 90 degree July heat (and no wi-fi) Waited 2 hours for a replacement bus to show up from NYC. 2nd bus: Engine caught on FIRE (and no wi-fi or electrical current in outlets even before fire). Trapped along the highway (Route 80) for 4 hours - others trapped longer. NO SAFETY PLAN IN PLACE. Only plan was to send a bus from Pittsburgh, 3.5 - 4 hours away. Police were called by riders (not driver) and they warned of bears in the area - there were ticks on passengers - babies - young children - elderly - no power on bus - no functioning bathroom - no water - bus was stifling. Passengers wandered on and along dangerous highway. Driver's efforts commendable - but he had NO SUPPORT from MegaBus. Passengers all handled it well. 3d bus: Frigid temperatures and driver couldn't control temperature. Only compensation for ordeal: Refund of approx. $35 per person for that leg of our trip. read more

Do not ride megabus I repeat it is not what they say they are when advertising. I bought a ticket and was told free wifi power outlets etc. THEY DID NOT WORK AT ALL AND A HANDFUL OF OTHER TRAVELERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. the bus driver only said he was sorry but had no control over it. We did not arrive at the time prompted to us nor was it peaceful. never again will I buy a megabus ticket.... read more

The bus we were on was in dangerously poor condition. The suspension was completely worn and the bus was basically riding on the bump-stops bouncing violently the whole way from DC to Pittsburgh. We rode with basically NO SUSPENSION for 7 hours. Extremely dangerous! We were 1 hour late. Upon arrival everybody's luggage was THROWN on the ground. I am not exaggerating at all. When I asked to grab my bag myself, the service guy tried to fight me. I had expensive photo equipment and a tablet in my bag so I didn't want to watch it being thrown on asphalt. This is beyond BAD service. Never again will I use Megabus. My wife was enraged, I had to calm her down and promise that we will never have to go through this again. read more

I enjoyed my ride from Pittsburgh to DC & then DC to Richmond, VA. It was so convenient. I really enjoy my bus driver on my return trip from DC to Pittsburgh. He was very thorough and straight to the point. I will definitely take mega bus again. read more

I have had no poor experiences while riding Megabus and have nothing but positive things to say about the company. The bus stop is located at the Convention Center and has covering in case the weather is bad, which is nice when you are waiting for your bus. When I was late for my bus, my friends and I were able to catch the next one no problem, which shows the great customer service this company has. The buses are clean, roomy and you are able to sit wherever you want! It is so fun to sit on the double decker bus on the second floor! No only do you have a clear view of the road, but there is nothing in front of you, so it is like having your own, personal bus! The stops are at random locations, one of which was my stop near Harrisburg in a mall parking lot. All of the pick up/drop off locations have felt safe and the drivers were always nice and professional. The prices are inexpensive and are worth every penny! read more

Absolutely horrible customer service, rudest people I have ever talked to. Would give zero stars if I could. Completely ruined my trip and my plans for the entire week. My bus was supposed to depart at 9:15. I arrived at the station at 8:45. It came to be about 9:45 and no bus had arrived. I called customer service and they told me it would be there soon, departing at 10:00. More time went by and still no bus, so I called again. They then told me that the bus had actually departed at 9:18, which was simply not true as I had been sitting at the stop with a group of other people waiting since 8:45. I asked to speak to a manager and they were extremely rude; tried to get me to buy another ticket and refused to give me a refund. They made it seem like it was my fault for "missing the bus" when clearly a bus did not come. Please please please save yourself the frustration and avoid this awful company. read more

If airlines have delay, it's usually due to bad weather conditions and restriction FAA imposes on them to make the accidents to a mere zero rate in US. I have received not only refund, but a big voucher from airlines when their airplane has technical failure. On the opposite side, Megabus can (and is often) late, both loading the passengers and getting them to the destination and does not think the same way! Interestingly, Megabus who has regular everyday service (several a day in fact), sends its bus late because of "bad traffic". I have been on late Friday bus from NYC many times and EVERY single time, bus arrives late and blames it on traffic!!!! How is it that you can't compensate for traffic while knowing it's gonna happen! And the last time, again blaming traffic bus arrived 1 hour 10 min late and the careless driver drove the bus very slow. So at the end I arrived at the destination more than two hours late (this time, being mid day and middle of the week) there was absolutely no traffic!!) I then wasted few hours of my time during 3 months trying to contact customer service and supervisor, writing multiple letters, to finally receiving a short letter saying: we investigated this matter and the bus left less than an hour later. Therefore, you are not eligible for a refund!!! Just to let you know, there is no way you can reach anybody with information in this company. read more

I'm not one to comment on public transit systems however, in this case I must share my thoughts. Mega Bus is the Worst paid form of public transportation anyone could ever take. To be clear, I've never been a passenger on Mega Bus - and never will be, but I've been the designated driver, specifically the one picking up our out of town guests. Over the course of the past 3 or so years, I've seen my guests cry (i.e. Bus driver wouldn't let them on because of the size of their luggage), lose money (i.e. Connecting bus ran over 45 minutes late, the connecting bus left and passenger was left paying for another ticket plus the fees - customer service not helpful, subpar communication skills), and for a few of my Brave guests, I've witnessed them asserting themselves with drivers who were at best acting/reacting like bullies on a middle school playground. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around why one would pay for a service who would turn around and degrade, disrespect, and treat them as subpar citizens. I understand for many it maybe all that they are able to afford, however, if collectively we standby and say nothing this will get worst. I'm bringing to wonder if this bus line is owned by one of the presidential candidates - wink, wink...jk. Bottom line, I personally wouldn't spend my dollar on Mega Bus. read more

My daughter was supposed to come back to Pittsburgh from State College for Labor Day weekend. Had reservations on Megabus at 8:00. It is now 10:30 at night and the bus has finally arrived. My husband and I have been home trying to reach Customer Service and have been holding for half an hour. We are thankful that the bus finally came -- but this is unacceptable that Customer Service never answered and the bus was so late. Most of the people waiting for this bus are Penn State students. First time i used megabus. so here is my experience. the buses are in the David Lawrence Convention Center. i arrived just one min before leaving fewww. Double decker bus. I was on the top, and the ceiling was low. spacious seating. some outlets didn't work(like mine). wifi didn't work. you can put a small bag under your seat, no overhead compartments. They left on time and arrived on time, well a little late just because we were headed to nyc and you know new york traffic... next time i try this i would arrive at least 20 min before and check to see which seat is best(because its a first come serve bases), which outlets work. not next to the bathroom or garbage. read more

I kept seeing a ton of negative reviews but still decided to use it to get to DC. I paid $7 so I wasn't expecting anything that great but I was surprised. I was dropped off at the stop at 3:30 and the bus was already there and I was the last to board and we left on time. We did a quick stop in WV for a few minutes to let some people on. We then did a half hour stop at a rest stop. The driver didn't say much just saying next stop at this time and such. There was ac to make it comfortable. I didn't use the outlets but I saw the guy in front of me use it and it charged his phone. I couldn't get the wifi to work though. I'll use it again. read more

We just returned from a round trip from Pittsburgh, PA to NYC. This was our first time we traveled to NYC this way. The trip was awesome. Our driver to NYC was incredible! She drove through heavy rain, assisted a disabled passenger with compassion and care to assure her safety, even asking if we could get her food when we stopped for lunch and kept us abreast of our journey and time frames. We would do it over and over again. It was nice to have someone else to safely take charge of the road. read more

I have used the bus 4 times going back and forth between Pgh + DC. The price can't be beat. Of course the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it is, but even at top price for this trip it is still less expensive than gas, tolls, and fatigue of driving it yourself. I wish that they had more trips leaving DC coming back to Pgh, as you either must leave DC at 6:00am on the 1st departing bus or arrive in PGH at 11:00pm on the later departing bus. Something in between would be nice, and considering that all the trips are sold out, they could actually add another trip. The staff has always been very curtious, no problems there at all! True, the wifi doesn't work, but you can always read or nap. I wish that they would expand to more cities. Altantic City would be GREAT! and Niagra Falls also! read more

They need to change their name to the Mega-LATE Bus. My daughter was two hours late coming from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, primarily because the driver could not keep to a schedule. 20 minute stops turned into 40+ minutes. You'll get more attention to detail and better customer service from a mediocre late-night diner. read more

I road the Megabus for the first time after hearing so much about it. The bus departed from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. I was surprised at how long the line was. The average age appeared to be 18-30 years old. Most people were headed to New York City with only a few getting off at State College. Your luggage can be no more than 50 pounds and I heard the driver yell to a guy in the back that his luggage weighed more than the 50 pounds allotted, so the guy was instructed that he needed to "break it down." How the guy did it, I don't know. Anyway after we boarded the driver reminded us about our destination, safety while on the bus and the rules. Thank goodness people were asked not to use their cell phones so others would not be disturbed. Unfortunately, the wifi signal was extremely weak and the electrical outlet did not work at all on the way to New York. Bummer. I sat on the top deck and the ride was not bad since I slept as much as I could. When we got to State College we only dropped a few off and picked up a couple of people and continued on with our trip. Three hours later we took a rest break for half an hour. The line at the Subway was long and only had one person working it, so I just bought a hotdog. Then we boarded the bus and headed to New York City. We arrived an hour early. Yes. I took a cab to Penn Station which was a $4.80 ride ( I didn't realize how close I was to Penn Station). On the way back to Pittsburgh, there were several Megabus stops, so you had to find the line you belonged in (there was actually an attendant sitting and directing folks to whatever line they needed to be in. I was fifth in line. When the bus arrived the driver pulled in half-way down the block, so people suddenly took off running to where it was. The driver yelled at everybody for coming down because he was not ready for us but started boarding us anyway. This time our rest stop was first after about a three hour ride, then we stopped at State College and then Pittsburgh. The driver had to remind folks that it needed to be quiet and that he would put people off the bus who weren't. This he even kept the lights off and everyone went to sleep. We had many riders but less that the trip to New York. We arrived back in Pittsburgh an hour early. I loved the fact that I did not have to hear cell phone conversations and on the way back the electrical outlet was working but the wifi was not. Yes, I would recommend Megabus. The cost roundtrip was $84.00 as opposed to Greyhound's nearly $200.00. The driver had an assistant who helped to keep the riders in order. Just wish the wifi was better and it was a little roomier. There are a lot of great things about Megabus. The price is incredible (Pgh to NYC for $65 round-trip). The bus stops were easy to find in both cities. The buses left on time and got to the destinations early or on time. The drivers and staff were courteous. The bus was clean. The ride was smooth and people on the bus were very considerate. BUT, don't count on the advertised Free WI-Fi or outlets at your seats working. On both trips, the wi-fi signal looked strong, but it was incredibly slow, and that might be based on whether you are in the front or back of the bus (we were in front on 2nd floor). The outlet at my seat didn't work on the trip there, and the one in the row my daughter was in didn't work on the trip back. They don't advertise that they take a rest area break, but they do - it's around the half way point of the trip, and there is a convenience store with a Subway there. The bus stayed there for 30-40 minutes so it was plenty of time to get food, etc. read more

I am writing to comment on the bus driver on the State College, PA to Pittsburgh, PA bus last night, October 9, 2015. The bus was over an hour late, the kids were "antsy" and anxious to go. People waiting to go to Harrisburg had no bus as the bus to Philadelphia was full. They were told that an extra bus was coming for them, but it hadn't shown up yet (and maybe never did). The PItt bus driver courteously and patiently got his bus loaded, answered questions about the Harrisburg bus, worked very hard to get seats moved (they were stuck) so that a wheel-chair bound woman could get on, loaded all the luggage and was absolutely awesome! My car was parked right there so that I witnessed it all. He never seemed to get overwhelmed or impatient. I commended him personally but believe whoever his boss is should know about this experience. My granddaughter rides this bus quite often and my grandson made his first trip alone to see his sister last night. I felt very confident in the drivers capability to safely transport this precious cargo to Pittsburgh! Thank you. read more
