We'll my only comment is that Joanne deserves to be a 5.0+. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be represented by Joanne in the purchase of a condo residence for our daughter who will be attending U. of Chicago in the fall. Based on our experience we recommend her 100% without any reservations. Between my wife and me we have done at least 50 R.E. deals over the years and currently own 3 homes and one investment property. So, we have done business with LOTS of realtors. I myself was a realtor for about five years. So, again, lots of experience. We both think Joanne is as good as it gets - Reliable, knowledgeable, professional, intelligent, xlnt communicator AND, as a bonus, a pleasure to deal with personally. She pretty much makes herself available 24 / 7, a real rarity these days. Weather as a buyer like us or as a seller, do yourself a favor and give Joanne a call. I remember thinking how attentive and patient she was during our conversation and that put me at ease. After discussing her credentials we proceeded to schedule an appointment. Upon our first meeting she came ready to work and access the damage. We knew our home needed work and Sandra gave us some "tough love" ideas and assignments. She was so professional and yet friendly and told us what we needed to do to get the best value for our home. What I also like about Sandra is how she'd make suggestions and ask for our input. She made us feel as though we were a part of the process and not just sitting on the sideline, even though we usually leaned in her favor. Although Sandra had other clients and responsibilities she was accessible and proactive. She's extremely skilled in the market and very conscientious. She has a very keen sense for detail that I've truly learned to appreciate. She doesn't settle for mediocrity and that's an invaluable quality in any real estate agent. The agent was incredibly…read moreabrasive, typically managing to insult everyone in the room in every meeting(including his own Mother at one point- this guy is a piece of work). The seller's reps(their attorney was also incompetent and bears shared responsibility) performed so poorly/unethically that the seller ended up getting sued by multiple parties, and there was talk of filing an ethics complaint against the Century 21 KRM agent. Avoid them at all costs- I would even go so far as not to view their listings if you are a buyer. Update- At least one of the recently added five star reviews is almost certainly fake, likely they both are. Like I said, Century 21 is not known for its scruples.

Anyway, my experience was horrible overall except paying cheap rent. That was the only good aspect about living here. The owner, Darian Sayfi, was hard as hell to reach. He even took forever to remit rent receipts! The lobby always smelled horrible due to sewage. The elevator broke down constantly so that was unreliable. I always lived next to noisy neighbors (loud sex, loud music, loud commotions inside the apartment). Darian never responded to complaints. This was, and probably most likely still is, the most unprofessional and trifling "management company" ever. If it were not for the super of the building, I'll just say his initials are JM - and he was kind of a weirdo too - I would have moved out as soon as I moved in! He was decent but strange in his own way.

I have been a real estate agent in two states (not Illinois), and when I was an agent I did…read moreeverything but throw myself in front of a train for my clients. However, I met my match in Paul Gibson, Coldwell Banker Realty-Hyde Park. Paul was born and raised in Chicago, and he not only knows the south side, but he knows downtown, the north side and the suburbs. I mean, he really, really knows them. I didn't even think that was possible. Paul recently helped me purchase a bank-owned property on the far north side (near Evanston). The deal was a nightmare and took nearly six months. However, Paul was calm, patient and smart as heck. He's also a licensed appraiser, which made things much easier when I was trying to figure out which property to buy. Once my deal was going Paul made a point of calling me EVERY DAY with an update (even if there was no new information), just so I would know where the deal stood. He made things happen, kept everyone in line, and was always 100% honest with me. If something I was considering wasn't going to work, he would look me straight in the eye and tell me. He's a no bulls**t kind of guy. In addition, I had completely screwed-up financing, and Paul helped me work that through with my lender, the seller and the real estate attorney. Other Chicago-area agents won't even talk to you if you aren't buying with 20% down and A-1 credit (I had neither). And catch this - he missed his wedding anniversary in order to make sure that 12 hours of painting and repairs were completed on the property I was buying. Thing is, his commission didn't end up being all that big (and he knew that going in). In short - Paul's a good guy, a nice guy, and someone who knows his stuff. He communicates, and will do whatever it takes (legally) to get a house sold or get a buyer into a house. I have to admit, he's a better real estate agent than I ever was. After working with Paul, I think I'll just skip getting an Illinois license.
