Tonight we ordered Chinese from Mei Wei in Blaine. Their website said they delivered but not how far so we gave it a shot and they delivered! (We live almost 8 miles away in Ham Lake.)The delivery fee was only $1 but we also tipped the driver. What we got: 2 chicken egg rolls - Not great, we'll try pork next time. Cream cheese wontons - These were excellent! Sesame chicken - This was good, similar to other places. Orange chicken - This was also good, similar to other places. Large chicken fried rice - Was ok, didn't have much flavor. White rice - Good sticky white rice. Overall I think we would order from them again. We got regular orders but they also have dinner combos which look like a good value. read more

This is the nearest Chinese place to my house so if I need fast it just wins by default. I've only gotten food from here a couple of times, however. The food is fine - nothing special. This last time I was there a young (white) boy was manning the cash register and another at the wok in back. They looked to be about 14. I just found it odd. There was also an older women helping at the register who seemed to have NO clue what she was doing. It really almost looked like they were doing a fundraiser for school like they do at Cub. It was weird. Anyway, I had ordered an eggroll (WAY small for $1, IMO) and an order of veggie fried rice. I was taking to go so I asked for some extra soy sauce and a spoon. The lady stands around clueless for a bit then gets my spoon. I ask again for soy sauce and she tells me "its in the bag." The kid tells her "There might not be much in there if she didn't get white rice." Lady opens the bag and tells me "there's 3 packets." Ok. Whatever. I'm in a hurry to get to work so I trust there are 3 packets. I get to work and open the bag to find ONE packet of soy sauce, one eggroll sauce and one fortune cookie. I'm peeved at this point and vow never to go back there. Moral of the story: If a customer asks you for more soy sauce, just give them more damn soy sauce. On a $9 RICE order, what is a couple more packets of soy sauce!?!?! read more

Went in around 6:30pm, you can tell the food wasn't fresh. My fiancé had their fried rice which was cooked in old ass oil. Nastiest Chinese joint ever. Poor customer service when asked for new rice - they didn't bother making new rice or offer a refund until I got LOUD. Eff that place. read more

We ordered from here on new years eve for two reasons- one they are open till 10:30 (other asian take-outs in the area close at 8:30) and two they deliver. We had never tried this place before but wanted to give it a shot. We ordered off their website around 9:00 and got a confirmation email time stamped by our computer at 9:14. While waiting for our food to be delivered, we got a call at 9:40. Here is our phone conversation to better illustrate my experience. Me: Hello? Mei Wei Lady: you ordered chinese food? Me: yes... Mei Wei Lady: Oh my delivery man went home 15 minutes ago. Me: Oh ok so we have to pick it up then? Mei Wei Lady: oh no, no. We closed 10 minutes ago. I close at 9:30 tonight. Me: Well we ordered our food at 9:00 and got a confirmation email at 9:14? Mei Wei Lady: oh no, I closed, I go home. Me: Ok, so you're not going to make our food at all? Mei Wei Lady: No (CLICK) If closing early on NYE, fine, post that on your website and don't allow people to order offline during that time! Also, why wait 30mins to call someone to decide you're not making their food? Lastly, how about an APOLOGY at least an "I am sorry" at any point during this mess!?!? Placed an order for delivery and once it was delivered realized we got the wrong food...called them to tell them what was delivered was not what we ordered and they asked "what would you like ya to do about it". We had to request they bring us the food we ordered and paid for and they said it would be well over an hour before they'd be out with our correct order. We never received our food. I really enjoyed going to a local place. The people it seems are always ready to offer some advice what to get or to jusy give you a nice friendly smile. Even though I had not been here awhile I really enjoyed the food. For only around $15 I can get a good deal of food for dinner, especially their sweet and sour chicken. They have have an unsupervised preteen struggling to run the phone, front desk, computer and cash register. There was a lot of drama going on in the main part of the restraunt. We used to eat here a lot, at least three times a month. The usual order was General Tso's Chicken with Fried Rice. We would occasionally purchase pork egg rolls and Crab rangoon(which is especially delicious) on the side. We always enjoyed it, for the most part. Sometimes the General Tso's would be hit or miss, coming out either too spicey or just didn't taste the same. But overall, we always enjoyed it. This lasted about 3-4 years. One night we found a large wad of strange looking hair on the General Tso's and it was covered in the sauce, couldn't tell if it was actual hair or ginger root. It spoiled our appetite's nonetheless. People are right about the inside of the joint. While the asian couple who own the place have always been kind to us, the place was ALWAYS a giant mess, with their kids running around, playing and screaming. When they decided to hire help, they did in fact hire a 12-14 year old boy to take orders at the register, alongside his grandma who would often switch back and fourth with him. Never had any problems with wrong orders, missing items, or anything like that. The food was always good, but apparently they got too busy for quality control to be important. read more

Always wanted to try Mei Wei and stopped in to order some appetizers to go! The restaurant was dirty with stacks of empty boxes in the corner. Half the lights were not working and to top it off it smelled like nail polish remover because one of the employees? was doing a manicure on a customer at one of the tables! The person who delivered my food was very nice and carried on a short conversation as he dropped off the food. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken which I was very disappointed. I expected it to be cooked in it's own sauce, but I got them plain and had the watery sauce that is usually used with wontons. The chicken fried rice might have been ok if in a separate dish, otherwise all you taste is that watery sauce. Everything tasted like that and my fortune cookies were stale. The chicken in our meal was mushy kind of slimy. Yuk. And, the fried rice was nasty. Not much flavor except old grease. The egg drop soup was really thick and tasteless and the egg roll was hard inside with out good flavor. I had a few tastes of my meal and couldn't eat anymore. My husband and I ordered from here this past Saturday for the first time and we liked it. We got the General Tso's chicken dinner combo with fried rice and eggroll, as well as some shrimp toast and BBQ chicken skewers. We got very nice generous portions of food for a good price. We liked it. The eggrolls weren't anything special but, I usually only like Vietnamese eggrolls (I'm a little spoiled that way). Several things I like about Mei Wei. First the proximity to my home. They are 5 minutes away. Second the food is delicious. Better than some of the other Asian restaurants in the area. Third they are fast. 10 minutes to fill my last order. I like the idea of a family run operations too. The only thing I would criticize is that the dining room is significantly cluttered. I'm talking boxes piled up in the front of the dining room. It's just not very inviting to sit down and eat. Interestingly enough the kitchen was much more organized. I'm also not a fan of the bright pink colors. Great food for take out but skip dining in until the dining room clutter is removed. read more

I work at a business down the street and me and my co-workers order from this restaurant once or twice a week. The food is decent and their delivery is usually within the half hour, although they will warn you "45 minutes". How can you complain about any place that delivers chinese food? No one does that in suburban areas! The prices are great; almost too cheap from a business perspective knowing you're getting the delivery service too. Be kind and order via phone. They are struggling with a new system I think and a verbal order is best. The owners (husband and wife) are very friendly and try their best to accomodate. Over the course of 5+ years, we have learned about them and their family. I do not know how so many other reviewers have come across poor service. I will admit that if you go to the restaurant, that you will possibly see one of their children or other family members. They are a hard working family; what's wrong with that? I went here because I had a menu delivered to my house and saw the 5.55 lunch menu so thought I would give it a try. The food was fine and large portions for the money. It is clearly owned by a family and grandpa is shelling pea pods at the corner table while the 10 yr old daughter is taking orders at the cash register . I think mom is the cook. I ordered from here for delivery, as I'm not feeling well and really wanted egg drop soup. I got my soup, as well as an order of pork loin mein, an order of sesame chicken, and 2 egg rolls. My egg rolls are typical Chinese restaurant fare, lots of flavor. Egg drop soup is thick and rich, and piping hot!! Love mein is the thicker noodles, but loaded with chunks of tasty roasted pork. And the sesame chicken isn't bad, the chicken is breaded, the sauce is not spicy at all, and thankfully not that gidawful sweet ketchupy stuff I've encountered. Overall, a decent meal. We ordered some food for delivery, the Chow mein was average at best, we told them extra crunchy noodles, we were charged extra for them. The problem is we did not get them and when my girlfriend called and told them we paid for something we did not receive the lady said they could not bring more out and we could have more next time. I have ordered Mei Wei six times and have noticed several things to like about them. First, their food is affordable, and delivery is free. The food is delivered piping hot every time. Mei Wei offers a small and a large portion choice on many entrée items which are priced between $5 - $14. This is really great when feeding kids, or if you just love trying a variety. Most of the large portion entrées are less than $10. Most appetizers are priced between $1.00 - $5.75. Another thing I like is that I can order only one eggroll, veggie roll or spring roll if I want to. The eggrolls are small but delicious served with sweet sauce, hot mustard, or fish sauce for dipping. The third thing I like is that for the amount you spend, you get a lot of food! The large portion sizes are typically enough for two meals for most people's appetites. Finally, I have found the food to be very good overall, however like any other restaurant, certain things are better than others. Some of the best things I have tried are the Mai Fun dinners for less than $10, especially the Singapore Mai Fun. The rice noodles are light and delicious! Mei Wei's Egg Foo Young is incredible. You get three very large servings of chicken or roast pork egg foo young for $7.35. The roast pork is very tasty. The gravy that goes over them is a little thick, so order that on the side. The Beef Lo Mein (pint $5.15 / Qt $8.45) is really good too, although the noodles are thicker than normal. The sesame chicken's flavor wasn't the best I have ever had, but was still good. I have a place where I love the sesame dinners and I couldn't help comparing the two, however the fresh broccoli served with it was hot, crisp, and yummy. To be honest, when you are buying cooked to order food that is delivered to you for free at roughly the same price as buying a fast food quarter pounder meal, you just cannot go wrong with Mei Wei. read more

At here for the first time the other day. Was kinda skeptical because I sat in there for about 15 minutes waiting for my food and not one other person came in. And it was lunch time. The phone also never even rung once. It was quite strange. Anyhow, I ordered cream cheese wontons and a lunch combo with shrimp egg foo young and chicken fried rice with an egg roll. Cream cheese wontons had tooo much filling and were kinda bitter. The shrimp egg foo young was decent, but the patties were crepe thin. I was only able to take one bite of the fried rice because it was very mushy and soft. Never had mushy fried rice before. The egg roll was inedible as well. Just didn't seem fresh, and seemed as if it had been fried a couple times already previously. I now understand why there was no other customers, even during lunch rush hours. Even the Toppers next door had tons of traffic and every table taken. I don't think I'd ever eat here again. They really should power wash the place and throw everything away and start anew. read more

We went to Mei Wei on our way back home from vacation. We stopped in and gave our order to a girl who appeared to be about 10-12 years old, and we could see children about 5-7 years old in the kitchen folding the boxes and doing other things. There was a man who appeared to be the father sitting in the dining area yelling at a crying infant while several other little kids sat at tables coloring or doing homework. There were toys and half empty water bottles on every table. I don't know where someone would sit if they did want to dine in. When our food was close to done, the father put the baby down and went into the kitchen without even washing his hands. The food was incredibly bland, my "spicy" sesame chicken was absolutely tasteless. Egg rolls were deep fried cabbage only. Not one good thing about our experience at all. read more

wew if i could give them no stars i would!! this place actually brought me to yelp my opinion on it was so very strong!! first of all it is the only chinese place near my residence. i did an online transaction, they charged my card mind you and it told me 30-40 mins. from 6pm to 8pm i waited for my food to arrive just to receive a call from someone who didn't identify themselves asking me to verify my address even though i filled it out online. then she tells me their delivery policy which was not clarified before i spent my money and wasted my time. by the time she called every other delivery place was about to close as it was a sunday. i call back to receive further verification expecting some kind of flipping customer service as i was the one extremely disserviced by their online representation. the gentleman who answered the call was combative with every response and offered me no kind of rectification. i am completely displeased and hungry. i would recommend to never use their online service as it will completely waste your time !! if i could give them a negative rating, you bet i would. absolutely terrible service. do not waste your time trying to eat here. not worth it. read more

Received no food, no call and when I called at 10:20 to check on it after reading poor reviews stating the same thing, no answer. Never heard from them the next day to offer an apology, unreal the shoddy business practices. If you don't stay open until your advertised time, don't offer online ordering... Will pay double the cost to order from 5spice and they don't deliver but I know ill at least get my my food. read more
