First time here, visiting family and craving some Chinese food. The outside of the building nondescript. The inside is large, plenty of seating and casual friendly vibe. We were seated in a comfy booth. Service tonite was slow albeit very friendly. Server apologized several time for the delay in various things (extra condiments, drink refills, initial order, etc). She was super helpful and responsive to ensuring that our meal order was served in a good sequence of timing. Now onto the food - we sampled a bunch of stuff. Soups were ok - Hot and sour (neither hot nor sour and lacked woodear mushrooms and needed more vinegar) as well as Chicken Wonton (which was a large potion). Pan fried pork buns were good - very doughy and good broth/flavor in the filling. XLB were tasty, though several broke as we tried to get them out of the steamer. Veggies - we had the A-Choy (nice surprise as we wanted the pea shoots but they don't carry them anymore) which was tasty as well as the eggplant garlic light on the spice. It was very tasty, still too spicy for our non-spice tolerant family member, also super oily. For entrees we got the beef and broccoli (standard) and the grandma's tofu which was surprisingly delicious and would order again. They provided us with a giant bowl of rice for our meal too which was appreciated. Would definitely come back here to try more dishes. They have a big menu with many of the "usual" Westernized dishes and items which are more authentic as well.

Ambiance: The restaurant is large and has plenty of seating available! The place was pretty packed for a weekend afternoon. Service: The service was quick and our waiter was very attentive! Food: The food was great! I loved the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and the cumin lamb (not pictured). Everything we ordered was devoured!

Staff Christmas Party 2025 -- I took our office to Teahouse for our annual Christmas party, and they were simply amazing. We had a reservation for 14, and they had two connected round tables ready for us when we arrived. We were dressed up for the occasion, and they even asked if they could film a quick clip for social media, it was such a fun touch. The food was a total win. Fried rice and lo mein are a must for any group meal, and Teahouse is hands-down one of the best spots in the Twin Cities for dumplings. Favorites at our table: Orange Beef, soup dumplings, Beijing Mu Shu Pork, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Tea Smoker Duck, Spicy Green Beans, Kung Pao, General Tso, plus the seared shrimp and shredded pork. And the service was top notch--friendly, attentive, and they even helped us grab a Christmas group photo. Merry Christmas, Teahouse... we'll be back

I ordered takeout from Tea House for dinner tonight, and everything was excellent. This place is consistently authentic and high quality. I got the Sizzling Beef, and my husband ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. Both dishes were great, though I preferred the Sizzling Beef. My husband usually sticks with Kung Pao, but even he couldn't decide which dish he liked more this time. The portions for both dishes were also quite large, which is always appreciated. I've had their hot and sour soup in the past, and it's very flavorful and noticeably spicy. It's a great option if you're feeling under the weather or just want something with a good kick. I haven't dined in yet and have only ordered takeout, but it's consistently good every time. In my opinion, this is the best Chinese food in the Twin Cities.

    Lunch Mapo Tofu w/ beef

Had lunch here with my wife last week, and had quite a good meal here. We both got lunch specials that were very reasonably priced. I had the Mapo Tofu (w/ beef) and my wife ordered the Kung Pao Chicken (szechuan style). The hot and sour soup was very good, and I liked the mapo tofu. The Kung Pao Chicken I think could have used a bit more flavor in the sauce, but we still enjoyed it. I'd come back with a larger group because they have those family-style round tables with the rotating plate in the middle. I think it'd be a great place to have a nice dinner with friends!

Love the ambiance of this location, its very traditional tea house setting with deep comfy seats with cushions and private booths, large tables and love that they have server bells at eat table so you don't have to try to flag someone down. Also love that they have fancy fish bowl style sinks in their bathrooms. Food is good, a little heavy on the five spice for my liking but still tasty. Their menu is beautiful and tells a story, one thing it doesn't tell though is the price so be warned lol. Large portions for the price though so you won't feel like you got short changed. They have a parking lot but parking spots are limited but there is metered street parking nearby but it's in the U area so parking can be hard to find depending on when you go. Overall it's a nice place to relax with friends, share food and catch up. Never felt rushed which is great at an Asian restaurant. Also never realized that the Chinese cucumber salad tasted similar to Lao/Thai/Hmong cucumber papaya. It's just missing a little bit of the flavor but it's close if you ever need something familiar but can't get what you want.

Loved this restaurant! The food was so good I forgot to take pictures. The Szechuan green beans were amazing. The spicy fish stew was delicious and comforting. My dad loved his General tsos chicken and my mom really enjoyed her Kung Pau chicken. Pot stickers there are absolutely delicious there. Our waitor was amazing and so attentive. I can't wait to go back to try more of their menu!

Cold pork belly, green beans, mapo tofu, and fried pork intestines. All soooo good. Service was great. And the booth was super nice for privacy for dinner with friends! Pricey but so good.

Tea House is the best Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities and it's not even close. Initially recommended to me by some international coworkers visiting from China who go here every time they visit, I knew it must be super good. The restaurant is located right near the university with a sizable parking lot on the side that you enter into from the back. The interior is massive, I mean there has to be hundreds of seats, but the whole place is very well kept. There are always so many staff hurrying around to help you, refill your waters, etc. I have been here a number of times, and have not had a single dish that was bad. My favorite dishes are basically any of the dumplings and any of the pork dishes, but it's all so amazing. The best way to enjoy this place is family style so you can try more dishes and because the portion sizes are so massive. This is a must go!!

Pork intestine dish. Very tasty and flavorful.

The service was friendly and excellent, creating a warm atmosphere in the restaurant. I really enjoyed the ambiance, which added to the overall experience. The food was good, although it didn't quite suit my personal taste--I understand everyone's palate is different, and mine might not be the biggest fan. Nonetheless, I had a pleasant visit and recommend trying the food here alongside the friendly service.

We went here for a date night a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the place. Atmosphere is very cute. When we came it was super crowded with a long wait so we actually opted to eat at the bar where nobody else was sitting. The bartender/waiter was very attentive and checked in on us a lot. He was super friendly and was willing to give us recommendations. We ended up getting the scallion pancakes, dan dan noodles, and the shredded pork in garlic sauce. All of the dishes were delicious! Portion sizes were huge, honestly the two of us probably could have shared one of the main dishes and been fine, but we had leftovers to take home. We will definitely be back at some point to check out some of their other dishes!

i cannot believe i haven't tried this place until today. hands down best chinese food i've had in the twin cities. this place is DELICIOUS!!! and SPICY!!! my favorite had to be the pork belly with fresh garlic. the dish is served cold which was a bit odd at first but if you look past that, it's amazingly delicious. this was probably the spiciest dish that we got. the mapo tofu was great! and the spicy pork chitterlings were so unique i've never had anything like it before. highly recommend literally everything we got. i have no complains about this place. unlimited free white rice too so who can complain. really cute booths in there too and the service was awesome.

    Very good "Kung Pao Chicken"

Revisited for a quick lunch, that of course included "Cumin Lamb", "Chung King Chicken" , "Szechuan Green Beans" and a favorite "Szechuan Dumplings" which I included new pix. Such a great place..and service....

During our recent visit, our server was not very welcoming or helpful while we were trying to place our order. We showed a picture of a dish from the restaurant's own menu that we were interested in ordering, but were informed that the item was only included for display purposes and was not actually available. This was confusing and somewhat disappointing, especially since customers naturally expect the dishes featured on the menu to be offered. Unfortunately, this is the second time we have experienced a similar issue, and it has involved two different servers on separate visits. The food itself is enjoyable, which is why we continue to return, but we hope the restaurant can place greater emphasis on customer service and hospitality. A friendly and attentive interaction can make a significant difference and would better reflect the quality of the food being served.

In…read morere-reading my reviews, I stand by everything I've said about the excellent consistent quality of the food, the service, and how much I enjoy coming to this restaurant. I truly hope they are around longer than I am. I would hate to find out this was one of the choices no longer available to us. Please read my previous reviews for a more inclusive view; this review focuses only on their lobster. I had previously mentioned that they prices of their lobsters (I love the version with black bean sauce) have gone up tremendously. While true, there seems to have been a subtle change in their pricing strategy. Previously (as of before the pandemic), the lobster was priced by the pound, which is the conventional way of doing it. However, they seem to have two lobster prices. The first one is called "Big Lobster" and they say it's between 2 and 2 and half pounds per lobster. The price of that (as of this review) is $56 dollars, or $28 per pound. That's not really a bad price at all. It's expensive, but reasonable. The other lobster is called "Live Lobster" and is priced $10 less at $46. So the real question is how much does this second version weigh? I ordered the Big Lobster, but they said they were out of it. I asked the weight of the "Live Lobster" but I didn't really get a straight answer, but he seemed to say "about two pounds" which doesn't really make sense because that's the price of the larger, more expensive lobster. But I decided to go for it anyway. As I stated in my last review, I'm guessing this lobster is at least two pounds, based on many years of eating lobster. For this review, I had ChatGPT translate the the Chinese on the menu, thinking it was secret code for "if you can read Chinese, save ten dollars by ordering this version" but AI says the Chinese means "lobster" so if you spoke Chinese, you'd still be mystified. So my recommendation is order the version that is ten dollars cheaper and you may (or may not) be paying $23 a pound. Price aside, I love this version of lobster and it is certainly a better deal than what you would pay at an American style seafood or steak restaurant in the Twin Cities.
