Review Highlights - Mel McLoughlin Carpentry & Tiling

I've hired Mel to do a good deal of updates and tile work in one of my bathrooms, and have found him to be extremely reliable, reasonably priced, and quick to finish a job.

Not a great experience. Buyer Beware. I contracted with T&W for 2 jobs. One was outside shingle…read morereplacement for small section of house. This was completed timely with no issues. The 2nd contracted job was for a bathroom update that included replacing clawfoot tub with walk in shower/barn style doors; toilet replacement, skim coat ceiling. I waited 6 months to be on the schedule for this work to be completed. Half way into the job I receive a call that the 48" shower basin that was ordered was cracked and they would replace with a 68" shower install at no extra cost. Little did I know that meant a lower grade shower barn doors. After the install the following needed further repair by either myself or another contractor: 1) Chip in shower panel at base - this can not be fixed. I covered the surface with silicone chalk 2) Scratch on glass door - can not be rubbed out 3) Re-chalking around base of shower panel and shower basin - many missed spots - I completed the task correctly 4) Repair of painted wall that chalk was used to seal between shower panel and wall. The chalk was smeared about an inch up and did not accept paint. - when this was brought to Wayne and Tina's attention the first response was "your using bad paint". I had just purchased the paint that day - Benjamin Moore brand. After consultation with professional painter and hardware store - it was determined that the chalking tube must have been frozen and then used which causes this problem. Wayne did not offer to fix this mistake and quick to not accept responsibility. 5) Sliding shower Barn doors do not close properly. Both doors slide open from 1/2 to several inches. Wayne did come by to repair but this did not resolve the issue. The issue was blamed on my home being older and the fact that I did not contract to have a new bathroom floor installed - the fix was I cleaned out the silicone mess he made surrounding the base door catches and repositioned them as well as adjusted the ball hinge. The product is not quality and not what I had paid for. 6) Shower water was only warm at the farthest turn toward hot. T&W insisted that the mixer on the shower valve is preset so there was nothing to fix blaming my plumbing. The fix was I called a plumber who adjusted the mixer on the shower valve and now I have hot showers. 7) Issue with payment for first job took months to resolve. After the first job was complete I received a Quickbooks invoice with an option for Apple Pay. I selected this option. Come to find out T&W did not set up that feature so several thousands of my dollars were charged to my credit card but T&W never received the payment. The first reaction from both Wayne and Tina was it was my fault and they needed to be paid. I sent a check in good faith that they would decline the apple pay payment so my credit card would be credited. It took them several months, many emails and my working with the credit card company, who determined that the issue was on T&W. This was a fiasco which eventually was resolved but not necessary if T&W has set up invoicing properly and accepted responsibility. Bottom line is T&W are quick to blame everyone else for their lack of attention to detail and poor workmanship. I'd go elsewhere to receive quality workmanship.

We are too busy to spend all that time figuring work so that you can pick and choose what you want to do etc. We have notified Contractor Connection with the same. Sincerely, Andre' Brosseau ---LoL What? You come to my house to discuss what I want to have done, take measurements and you then follow that up by declining to give me the numbers a few weeks later? Seems to me that they weren't keen on writing me an estimate that I would then compare to another estimate? Here is my response.--- redacted To: Andre Brosseau Apr 26 at 11:27 AM Andre I'm not sure I am following what you are trying to get at other than you do not want to do the work I have requested. I asked for a kitchen and 2 bathroom remodel. I'm not picking and choosing anything. That is what I was hoping to have done by your business. I'm going to assume there is a misunderstanding here but if you don't want to do it, then I can look elsewhere. ---So folks the lesson here is if you see crappy reviews about a business and decide to at least give them a chance, you may want to think twice. Previous reviewer certainly was right about the rudeness too. Oh well, bullet dodged.---

Hired Nicholis in 2019 to repair a rubber flat roof leak, which he did for $3500…read more During the repair he said he could coat the roof in expensive silicone and warranty it for 15 years. No need to replace the rubber membra. He came back with the silicone to apply it and it was clearly too cold, under 40 degrees. He said he had a lot of experience with this product and it can be applied down to 32 degrees. Against my better judgement I allowed him to do it. well using his high pressure sprayer to apply the rubber, he blew out the new patch and the roof started leaking again. He didn't use expensive Gaco silicone either like he said and of course the coating froze and peeled off! Back to square one, but worse. Still have the leak and a peeling, chipping rubber coating coming off my roof and littering the yard in white latex. After numerous calls and texts nothing has been done to correct the situation by him. He clearly is incompetent and won't honor anything. You have been warned! Cost of my repair $8000. And he wanted it in CASH

I approached him about his bad reputation and reviews on Yelp and quickly said that those were a long time ago and we have been working hard to overcome those and build a better name for himself. so we gave him a chance!!! WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Nicholis charged us a half down deposit for initial material purchases and then showed up to perform the job.......Alone!!! from the first chore he tackled he completely ignored his own scope of work which he provided us and ignored our request for type of material we preferred for longevity of this repair. when he alerted me that he was ready to apply the rubberized coating,I then went on the roof and found he had only done work to the side of the building that you could see without a ladder!!! when I approached him once again about the lack of following what he said needed to be done, he quickly got aggravated with me and started crudely telling me that I was doubting him and calling him a cheat. That evening after we had all gone home for the day, he packed up his trailer and left without even applying the coating. Since then we have called and emailed him daily for months, and has never once responded. We still have a leaky roof and we are out $8000 his total materials and time spent on the job barely would add up to $2500. I just want to make sure no one else gets screwed over by this scammer!!!
