We ordered the basic dinner for 2, which included two types of rice and a dozen small dishes of assorted hot & cold foods to go with them. There were beef, pork, &chicken dishes and many delicious vegetable dishes. I especially liked the shredded cabbage dish (much to my surprise), and my partner particularly liked the sauce on the meatballs and the chicken skewers.

The individual servings were small, but filling enough because of the heavy coconut milk used in most dishes. 1 star off: The attitude of the waitstaff was abysmal. First of all, their website does not offer reservations and they rarely answer their phones. So my family and I arrived at restaurant opening to get a table. The first thing they said to us was "Do you have a reservation? If you don't, I can only give you a table if you get out by 6:30PM." in a stern way. We said okay. The group that came after me also raised the issue that no one at the restaurant answers their phone for reservations. The waitstaff did not respond to that, but begrudging seated them. 1 star off: While we were ordering food, the waitstaff noticed that my son had a water bottle with him, and proceeded to give him a lecture that water bottles are not allowed and that we have to order water from them. The differences between the two are mostly pretty subtle and basically come down to the Indo-european variety being more flexible in terma of mixing dishes and herbs from different regions. The food is served in buffet form (although à la carte is also optional) as a 'javanese buffet'. That alone wouldn't be possible in Indonesia, where there would at least have been a regional denomination (east javanese, middle javanese, sunda / west-javanese) if not, a local one. Anyway, Bandoeng started as a post-colonial restaurant, survived the passing of a generation that was born in the dutch East Indies and is now finding its way into the future. Great selection of dishes, loads to choose from, high quality, very decent price. Over 40 dishes to choose from, all you can eat for € 28,75.
