My experience at Melia La Defense started off well, but the overall summation is that this hotel lacks interdepartmental communication.
Incident #1: We requested an iron, which does not come standard in the room. After 30 minutes of waiting, we had to call again to remind the staff before they finally brought it.
Incident #2: We requested room service and they brought the wrong meal. When they delivered the correct meal, I was disappointed to find that it was cold. This person who delivered the food said he'd be back with the ketchup we requested. He never returned so I was not able to tell him about the cold food.
Despite calling room service to get a replacement meal (sorry, I'm not spending $30 on cold food), they never answered my call. I walked down to the front desk and they couldn't get a hold of room service either. I was told they would have room service call my room. No one ever called. It appeared the staff didn't even attempt to resolve my issue.
Incident #3: The day prior to leaving, I told the receptionist at The Level that we would like to request late check-out for the following day. She pulled up our reservation, made some notes and then told me the late out check-out was confirmed.
The next day at Noon, we had 2 people stop by our room to tell us we were past check out, and also received 2 phone calls from the front desk. I told them we had already coordinated late check-out the previous day.
Finally, we just decided to leave the hotel as it was becoming too much of a hassle to deal with staff.
Despite paying for a room on "The Level" which is supposed to come with more amenities and personalized service, we did not feel like we got our money's worth. Hotel management really needs to work with staff on organization and communication, as this particular property seems to be poorly managed.
If you're looking for a hotel in a great location near transit, Melia is a good choice. However, if you're looking for a hotel with excellent customer service, I'd choose elsewhere. read more
