After seeing Melissa's amazing work at a relatives wedding, I knew that when I got engaged and married that I needed her as my photographer. She is absolutely wonderful! Let me just start by saying anyone who gives Melissa McClure a less than five stars is out of their mind. I would give her 1 MILLION stars if I could. I am from Kansas City and my husband and I did a destination wedding in La Jolla, California three years ago. I booked all of my vendors from Kansas City having never met them before. The first vendor I booked was my officiant who had been in the industry for quite some time. I had my photographers narrowed down to about two or three options. Not being from the area, I asked my officiant if he was familiar with any of them. I indicated I was leaning towards Melissa McClure photography but she was a little more expensive than the others. In summary my officiant told me she is worth every penny and said GO FOR IT. At that point I knew my mind was made up (as I had been following her work for a few months at that point). Booking Melissa was easy and painless. She was flexible and communicative through the entire process. Her organization through booking to the day of -- getting a timeline together etc. was unprecedented in my opinion (top notch from a customer service standpoint!). As an out-of-town bride I felt totally comfortable and confident the day of because Melissa was so knowledgeable and wonderful from the start. When my day of rolled around, she showed up on time ready to go with a big infectious smile on her face! Even before she came she continued to keep good communication on her arrival that morning. My wedding was very small about 15 guests including my husband and I and she made every moment count. It has nearly been a year since our wedding and we are still devastated over our photos. I fully anticipated looking back on our beautiful day on our anniversary as we can our videography. I am a professional photographer and knew of MMP and was delighted to have her document our big day! Nothing could have prepared me for the gallery we received. I met with Melissa a few days before we received our gallery and she told me she was "having focusing issues with her lens(es) but that our gallery was perfect. I could barely wait the minute or two for our gallery to load. The first few images and cover photo were COMPLETELY out of focus. I emailed MMP and sent a pic and asked if this was in focus and she said "oh no that was from my second shooter(who we agreed wouldn't be shooting since she was learning that day) and that her images were not of such low quality. Great, so when I sent three of her images and asked if there was something compressing the images during download as they too were out of focus. Her tone and professionalism changed immediately. Instead of offering alternates for almost every key image ruined, she quickly stated she loved the photos and sorry we didn't. I was in complete shock that a colleague and peer was behaving this way. I asked if I could see alternates and offered to edit on my own. She stated the ONLY way we could even see the other images was to sign an NDA before. This is absolutely unheard of. I sent the gallery to other colleagues who were appalled. Melissa, I truly hope you love your wedding day images and that they're in focus because the heartache we have and always will because of your lack of knowledge on how to shoot in manual is excruciating. Shooting large groups of 4 or more at 1.4 1/40 SS is something an amateur learning how to use a camera would set up a shot! You cropped essential people out of photos and left us with nothing to print! I am so thankful that Matt insisted we hire a videography team, they're the only reason our family has memories captured. We honestly should have set out disposable cameras and let our guests take photos!!! People ask to see our gallery before booking her! When it came to planning our wedding, my only request was to have an amazing photographer on our wedding day that didn't only take those "posed stand here and smile" photos. We wanted someone to be able to capture those special candid and natural moments for us. I am so thankful that we used Melissa for our wedding photography. Full disclosure, we had originally started with a different photographer. Our engagement photos turned out less than exceptional, and when I tried to talk to him about it his response was that "not everyone is a model" and "some brides get hung up on photos they see on Pinterest and expect theirs to turn out exactly the same". Needless to say, I was less than comfortable having him be the sole person responsible for capturing the biggest day of our lives. Luckily, Melissa just happened to be available on our date when we contacted her a few months before our wedding. She was out of the country when I first reached out to her, but she responded to each of my emails within a couple hours and was ridiculously friendly for someone I had never met! I pretty much felt like we were friends before we ever had our first meeting. When we met up for beers and met her fiance and it was a done deal. I realized during those interactions that actually liking the person behind the camera and having a connection with them is so crucial to getting amazing photos. If you aren't 100% comfortable with that person, then how can you expect somewhat intimate photos to turn out well? My connection with Melissa was so much better than our original photographer, and it shows in the few photos that I've gotten to see so far. I decided to do a boudoir session with Melissa, because I am pretty awkward and uncomfortable with being the main subject of photos. I have to say this was one of the best things I could have done during wedding planning. She made me feel very comfortable and, holy goodness, she made me look amazing in those photos too. It was a great confidence boost about a month before the wedding and I'm so glad I did it! It also made a really, really good wedding gift for my husband. :) As far as our wedding day, Melissa was more than just a photographer. She had our coordinator's schedule printed out and made sure the rest of our vendors were staying on time prior to the wedding. I don't recall reading that in her job description, but we all appreciated the extra help! In addition, she is good friends with all sorts of vendors, so it was fun to have her together with my hair and makeup women, because they already had great relationships with Melissa. For the actual photos, she was quick and stuck to doing only the photos that I had asked for, not what a bridesmaid, a grandmother of one of my flower girls, etc. requested. It's important that your vendors be on your side, and Melissa was entirely "team Laura" the entire day, just like she had promised me. She even bussed my SIL up to the venue just to get her out of our hair when we had all had a little too much of her. Also, her assistant, Julie, was awesome too! She was so sweet and made me feel just as comfortable as Melissa did. Last but not least, I have only seen 9 teaser photos so far, but they are AMAZING!
