It has taken me a long time to decide to post this review of Melissa Pierce and Associates regarding my divorce last year. Melissa was recommend to me by her daughter, who is my friend and coworker. I chose to move forward with her because I trusted my friend who spoke very highly of her mom/her law firm. I was shell shocked at the $7000 "discounted rate" that she gave me during our initial conversation. She then told me that it would cost more if I didn't book with her during that initial call. I was hesitant with how expensive it was, so she looked up the value of my Ex and I's house and assured me I had a case. Trusting my friends word, I made the poor decision to hire Melissa as my attorney. I provided all documents she requested (these had to be checked off in her portal she uses in order to not have your case put on hold) I gave her all the information I could about the situation that was unfolding of my ex husband selling our assets during the divorce, stealing my car from my work, and stealing money from me. She once again assured me that it would all work out and I was entitled to half of everything he sold. That she would get me my car back soon and put a motion in place for him to no longer be able to sell out assets mid divorce. (The motion was put in place 2 weeks before our mediation and I didn't get my car back until after our divorce was final.) She filled me with false hope and assured me about all my concerns that I brought up. Communication was an issue that I continued to bring up and voice my displeasure about how in the dark I felt. Then her associates missed deadlines with the courthouse for my case. This caused me to be penalized in court and us to completely miss our court date. I was constantly not being given or shown important documents for my case, or told last minute I had to drive and meet somewhere an hour away when I still didn't even have a car. She then was given an offer by my ex that we could just "call it a wash" and based on all the hope she gave me about my case we went to mediation which was another $750 out of my pocket. At mediation they asked about my retirement, (documents I provided early on in my case) and was told my the mediator that I have no case at all, and that I needed to walk away with nothing but the car my ex stole from me mid divorce that had been trashed and damaged since, or I was looking at paying him $30,000 from my retirement. Melissa almost cost me $30,000 after doing nothing but assuring me I would likely get my attorney fees covered plus money on top. After being utterly blindsided, I then was told I owed her around $5k (the remaining balance of the 7k) with less than a weeks notice of it being due. I confronted Melissa and her team about all the negligence, lack of communication, missed deadlines and misleading they did to me. She scheduled a call with me where she told me that someone on her staff must have deleted my 401k from my file and that has she had that document we wouldn't have went to mediation and she would've advised me to settle. I personally had mentioned my concern for my 401k on multiple occasions. How she didn't know she didn't have that document is beyond me. She admitted to her and her staff's negligence regarding my case and did credit me some money ONLY after I listed all the issues her and her associates caused for my case and ASKED to be compensated for it. I still am paying on that 7k balance to this day. Melissa does come off as reassuring and kind, she does offer payment plans which is nice. But I would've been better off not having an attorney at all, and save myself thousands of dollars to let my ex just screw me over on his own instead of paying for an attorney to let him screw me over. She did not advocate for me, she did not communicate, she missed deadlines because of her team, she gave me wild amounts of false hope, and utter neglect given to me by Melissa and her team. This has greatly affected my friendship and working relationship with her daughter, and has destroyed my finances. I lost out on thousands of dollars that I had proof of my ex owing and stealing from me only to be handed a bill by Melissa afterwards. Please don't make the same mistake as I did. Hire a different law firm. read more

I had been in a Horrific 6 year Custody case, with no allegations about me, just that he wanted the child to raise, at the end of 3 trials $180,000 my atty Katherine Shensky from Farmington Hills, Hershoff Obee, was demanding the last 9,000 before she would appear after closing arguments and did not see me thru to the end, I then went to COMMON GROUND and apply for Food and Legal aid to keep my son, Common Ground prove my low income an need for legal assistance for custody case and gave me a list, Melissa end up helping me, I gave her retainer she demanded before her appearance, She had one morning in your a few hours and was HIRED to stop the merging of 3 orders from 3 trials, She typed all 3 Custody orders into one and was satisfied even tho i was lashing out about submitting that to referred sure enough it gave referee to think i must be ok with the merger of 3 contracts i spent 180,000 to secure, I lost AS SHE STATED more than HALF of my CUSTODY from what she did! I left a balance of $800 that made me sick to pay because of the lack, care about my case and what she did to it! No, its not about not liking the outcome, she didn't file a motion to block the megeing of 3 contracts instead she typed three contracts merged how she taught it should look my 6 years of my life i borrowed 180,00 for this MEEK person not to be able to be AFRAID of another atty being loud and aggressive with her, pushed OVER and fell, btch!
