Found this place on my radar for TacoTuesday and some papusas. The woman working the orders is super nice and pointed me to what I was looking for: tacos, papusas, and that yuca con chicharron. Tacos were incredible with the flavors of the carnitas and steak; papusas were steamy with the nice cheese pull. Wasn't too impressed with the yuca con chícharron; it's a bit overpriced for how much of the pork you get and I felt the yuca could use more seasoning. I also got a horchata to wash all the food down which had the perfect sweetness to it. Portions are large and it was nice to find a neighborhood spot like this. The pupusas rarely had any filling. My Dad said it's more like a tortilla. And they were hard or toasted. You can't know whether a place is good or not unless you try it. We were in the area for a short visit last Friday so we decided to Door Dash instead of driving around looking for a late lunch. This place turned out to be a crowd pleaser! I placed an order for a variety of pupusas and one beef fajita quesadilla to feed 4 people. The prices were fairly typical considering upcharges for certain ingredients and most restaurants having to change prices due to the numerous challenges of COVID. I specifically ordered the queso y pollo for myself, that's always been my favorite. We also got several each of queso, queso y chicharron, queso y fajita and revuelta. It took a while to arrive, especially for an off peak time. It almost seemed like they accepted the order... and then accepted again more than 20 minutes later. The menu was varied, although I would've liked to order some a la carte side items. That's probably just a limitation of Door Dash though. The food itself was a big hit, only a couple of pupusas made it to leftover status and then there was the infamous standoff in front of the fridge later where several people are demanding to know the fate of the rest. Sometimes you have to decide if you are hungry or love your family, but damn I was looking forward to more! I really loved the queso y pollo, it had the perfect ratio and texture and was top notch delicious! I wanted to try several others, but we're a bunch of animals and ended up doing zero sharing so I can't weigh in on flavor profiles for anything else. However, there were no complaints and everyone said theirs was really good multiple times. I would definitely order again, but I'll plan better and save myself a secret stash next time! read more

Melitas was a good neighborhood eatery. I had a hankering for pupusas and definitely got my fix fulfilled. The waitress was very nice and even told me the pupusas were gluten free. Not that it matters to me if it's good it's good and not worried about the extra carbs. I ordered reveultas loroco and fajita pupusas they all had great flavor and great cheese to meat ratio. I am mainly here for my favorite foods: - Sopa de Mondongo (tripe soup) - so refreshing and it's my alternative to thick menudo without surprises of mystery body part. I called tonight and we ordered pupusa's. The lady tells us that she's out of cheese we say that's fine. We just want them with beans and Chicharrón. She asked my husband for his credit card. He said he couldn't give it to her because he was driving and he was going to pay cash anyway. we live right down the street from this place. We've always eaten pupusa's from there. my husband tells the lady that he's going to be there in less than 10 minutes as soon as he gets there and walks in the lady tells them that she doesn't have any dough to make the pupusa's but yet when we called to order on the phone she was wanting a credit card to charge. if she didn't have any, though, she should've called us back to let us know. Don't let the "no smoking" signs fool you. Walk in and you're immediately engulfed in a smoke fog from cigarettes. Restaurant was empty when we visited between meal times. We ordered water to drink, served cold no ice. Chips came in a small basket with a miniature ramekin. Chips were hard and stale, salsa was a green verde salsa that was overpowered by lime and salt. Pushed this aside and waited for the enchiladas verde. Plate came with 3 enchiladas that were smothered in a white cheese and flavorful from the cilantro and cheese crumbles. Same green salsa was used on the enchiladas that was served with the stale chips. Refried beans were watery and ran through the fork spokes. Rice was plain tasting with no flavor. Restaurant did have a classified patio outside, but did not look appealing to sit outside and have a drink. Overall, gave this restaurant a 1-star from the poor food quality. We visited this place on a road trip. It was a very exciting surprise. First, the owners were very kind and welcoming. They spent time with us as we looked over the menu and answered any questions we had. I am a healthy food fanatic. I have been eating organic non/gmo food for 2 years and I can taste poison in most resturant food . This food was excelent, had no bad stuff! All fresh... wonderful food and fresh ingrediants! The pupusas are fresh to order and..... I will say the best I have ever had! I hate Houston, and usually avoid traveling there. From now on... I always ate American food, i never ate fast food or ate out, that was just how i was raised. I ate a Salvadorian meal for the first time my freshman year of high school and my whole life changed. I've been searching for an authentic mom and pop shop to give me a piece of nostalgia. Today I found it, it only took 5 years lol! Very delish and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Finally tried this place after passing by so many times, and it did not disappoint. I got three papusas- shrimp & cheese, revuelta, and fajita beef and cheese. Revuelta was definitely the best, but all three were absolutely delicious. The boyfriend ordered the Mexican Steak and the Special Baleada. Mexican steak was pretty good, but the Special Baleada was amazing. I will definitely be coming back, great neighborhood spot. I was impressed with the freshness and taste of their soup the first time I went, and decided to go back again. To my surprise it was just as good. From my experience, Salvadoran restaurants don't usually keep the consistency on the flavor of their food. When I have brought it up in restaurants before, I have been told by management that they have different cooks, so flavor depends on who's preparing the food that day. Been here several times for karaoke and continue to return. Predominately Spanish karaoke but, English is welcomed. Sound system good, music selection good (can pull off of YouTube), DJ good, stage area. This is a small but, friendly restaurant with bar. One of few karaoke places where children and families are welcome. Beer is around $5.00 a bottle (my brand) which I think is moderately high. Most places in the area charge $3.50 to $4.50 for the same brand. Still I give five stars for exceptional hospitality. Karaoke is Fri, Sat and Sun nights 9 till close. read more

One of the best lunches I've had in a long time. Everything was prepared fresh. My husband and I shared a few things - spinach and cheese enchiladas, chicken tamales (they were out of corn and crema), and two types of pupusas. A huge amount of food for under $17! The enchiladas has a dreamy tart salsa verde and were loaded with spinach and cheese. The rice was some of the best I've had anywhere, soft and fluffy. The tamales were huge and steamed in plantain leaves. The masa was so flavorful, wow, and the filling had potatoes and a few green beans with the chicken. I loved the pupusas, especially the one with squash, my favorite kind. The cabbage slaw was a perfect tangy side. Nothing was spicy, just perfectly spiced, including the salsa, as this is typical for El Salvadoran food. Next time I'm going for the Tacos Catracho and tostones! This place was pretty darn awesome. I was hesitant to go here since it looked pretty run down, but the food definitely changed my mind. I got the sopa de pollo with the chicken on the side (it comes fried if you get it on the side). The chicken was fried very well, and the soup itself was also yummy. Inside the soup was carrots, potatoes, and chayote squash. It also came with very thick tortillas that I loved and some rice too. My boyfriend got the spinach enchiladas (enchiladas espinaca) with green sauce, and they were some of my favorite enchiladas I've had. They were full of cheesy deliciousness. Best pupusas I've EVER had.!! Just passing through town on my way to Houston. Stopped to get tacos with my family. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a Salvadoran restaurant because I love pupusas. We're from Dallas but now live in the Austin area & I promise these are the best pupusas anywhere. (Trust me I've tried them all). Everything is made fresh, the salsas are amazing, & the owner was the sweetest lady. She was wonderful. Definitely stopping in every time I visit my in laws now.!! Also I feel I should add that I'm health freak & eat only organic food. Some restaurant food makes me feel bad physically after. But, this food was soo fresh & homemade it made me feel better than before. Sooo fantastic I can't get over it. I made a yelp account just to come send some love & give them good reviews.
