Campesino is one of my favorite cafes to study at in Houston! There is ample seating, it is oftentimes very quiet (though if you do want to chat that is no problem at all) and the wifi is good. It is in a home-like structure with quirky furniture, but it makes me feel very much at home. The workers are also super nice and accommodating. The coffee is very reasonably priced and delicious. I always get their Horchata Latte---it is a perfect level of sweetness and the cinnamon complements the espresso perfectly (and it's only $5.50)! They have a variety of other drinks and pastries too, that I haven't been able to try. I highly recommend coming to study/catch up with a friend. There's a lot of coffee shops in the Montrose area but this has been one of my favorite. read more

One day, I finished my doctor's appointment and got really craving for coffee. I pulled out my phone and found a coffee house nearby. I started driving towards it but didn't realize it was at the other side of the parking lot. I was so glad that I found this quaint coffee house. Campesino was within walking distance. Me and my friend ordered coffees. He got a specialty coffee and I got a simple drip coffee with a splash of almond milk without extra charge. Service was okay. The atmosphere was okay. There were not many pastries to eat with my coffee. So, we went to Voodoo Donuts for something sweet. Most of seats were taken around 10 am. We didn't stay. My friend and I ventured into Midtown for Easter weekend for the first time. We were afraid nothing was open due to the holiday but luckily pretty much everything there was open. I of course was in search of good coffee and we looked on yelp. Camp was calling our name & I am glad we answered! Loved loved loved my cafe con leche!! This spacious, El Salvadoran-owened coffee shop reminds me of a Gryffindor Common Room. There's so many nooks and different kinds of seating to suit your work session with plenty of natural light streaming into the huge windows facing either the street or backyard patio area. At 8am on a Thursday the space was not full at all and the associates were friendly and welcoming. I appreciated most the straightforward menu with lots of specialty (super unique!) options. They have a 15% discount during Happy Hour from 7-9pm Mondays through Thursdays. I had heard about this coffee shop so I was excited to finally check it out. It did not disappoint! I came here on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but I was able to get a table. They have free Wi-Fi so almost everyone was on their laptops because it is a great space to get some work done. You can choose from sitting at actual tables or more comfy sofa seating. I've heard great things about Campesino from both my Yelp and non-Yelp friends, both of whom suggested that I give this place a try even if I'm not a big coffee drinker. Sure enough, I very much enjoyed my visit on a Saturday afternoon while catching up with a friend. This small shop sits on the corner of a residential block and would easily be mistaken as a home if not for the number of cars parked right outside. The vibe is cozy with a garden variety of seats to choose from, as in typical Montrose fashion. The inside seats offer plenty of ambient light through every wall, or you could enjoy some direct sunlight in the backyard with both shaded and unshaded areas. The horchata deserves just as much praise as the welcoming atmosphere. Their unique and delicious recipe sets it apart from the rest of the beverage businesses in the area. Even more so since it's only $4 for a tall glass -- a rare find anywhere these days, let alone Montrose. I can't ask for more out of a non-caffeinated drink. What a cool place to read, work, socialize, or all of the above! Very few coffee shops can match the versatility that this one offers. read more

Very authentic. The ambience is my favorite. It's not too loud not too quiet. There are tables where you can use your computer and there are couches where you can read books and catch up with friends. It's the only place I know that's not crazy loud or way too quiet and just when you think you've seen it all if you keep walking down the hall, there are more seating areas. Came here to work for a bit and really liked the vibe. It feels super cozy and intimate. The tables are pretty small but can fit 2 people with laptops back-to-back. I ordered the horchata iced latte, and it was okay. It wasn't that flavorful and unfortunately tasted a bit watered down, but maybe it was because of the ice. We stopped by for an afternoon pick me up on a Friday and there was plenty of street parking, more than enough seating inside and in their outdoor patio, and a ton of drinks to choose from. The coffee is good and the cozy vibe is what coffee shops in this town are missing ! Service is slow and outdoor seating is not great though... Parking: There is plenty of parking ! You can park in the lot of on the street. They also have a bike area Seating: There are a lot of cozy couches/ seats inside the main part of the house. The rest of the space has 2 top tables and 2/3 group tables. Unfortunately the 2 tops are seem to get taken by individuals , which cuts the seating in half (especially since the tables are quite small so sharing can be a challenge). They do have a large side patio with plenty of additional seating but it needs some TLC. The tables wobble and there's basically no shade/coverage (there were 2 broken umbrellas when I came). Drinks: I got the cafe con leche and it was amazing ! I love that they have south American coffee and food. The coffee specifically is delicious and makes it stand out from the rest of the coffee shops in Houston Service: The service is lacking. On a Sunday late morning they only had 2 people lacking. Orders were taken very slowly and people were waiting around the order area for quite a while. They wouldn't call drinks out loudly either so there was confusion when people tried to get their items. If they added names to the orders and projected more this would help out a lot. Other things: I don't think they had the AC on inside which made it very hot... This place was a super short walk from my airbnb and the kiddo and I needed to get out for a bit. Campesino was quite busy but lucky enough there was plenty of spaces to sit and hang out. As an old house that has been converted to a cafe, it has become a casual option for work, study, and even to hang out. One will likely see lots of different walks of life here, along with a solid amount of coffee friendly options They describe themselves as a place that captures the vibe of the early Montrose bohemia with "Latin-centric" menu items. They're not wrong, but the unique pairing along with the cute setup is appealing, and I could see myself making this a regular spot for whenever I"m in need of a place to score some caffeine and some WiFi. The cold brew works wonders for my tired brain and the horchata latte goes down a little too easily. The pork tamal is a nice addition, even if they seem somewhat small for $10. At least they come with some (likely store bought) plantain chips and hot sauce. is fatty with good flavor and I love the bits of potato. It works better as a snack than a meal. I hope they continue to develop the food, since this could be a fun draw for new patrons. Parking is limited out front, but there are plenty of spaces in the back. WiFi is spotty but when in doubt, shoot for network #24. Furniture isn't in the best condition and the interior could use a sprucing up. There are tears in the chairs and many of the mini tables aren't level. Lots of random seating with benches and even street view, but outlets are mainly in the corners. Staff is young and hipster, much like the Montrose faithful who are in and out of this spot. I'll be back ... likely often. read more

My only hesitation is something's out of their control parking can be a challenge, but I find the transitioning neighborhood as another issue. Campesino is such a homey cafe complete with a fireplace, although like Cloud 9, it's non-functioning. My friend and I found it by happenstance after eating at Piggy's. Bar stools to chill and mingle. Sofas to relax...and mingle. Counter and table seating to do solo work or study with a group. This cafe has it all. Service was friendly and informative. Their pastries come from El Bolillo, and there's a small assortment in the display case at the counter where you order. I had a plantain muffin, which was a bit dry but tasty. It wasn't strong like banana bread. I don't really like bananas, so I was pleased. It wasn't overly sweet either. I had the Campesino cafè con leche, which is the cafè de olla with cinnamon, honey, and steamed oat milk. I love oat milk and pretty much only drink that, so I enjoyed this bevy. I could taste the dash of cinnamon, and it was not too sweet with the honey. It was served in a to-go cup. We sat on the sofas to warm up and enjoy our coffees and pastries after eating outside on the patio at Piggy's before our walk. Guava (sweetest) and Pineapple were the favorites. Enjoyed the Choripan for lunch and the Chimichurri and hot sauce along with the Plantain Chips on the side take this sandwich over the top. Met someone up for some coffee here and really was digging the vibes here! It looks like an older house turned into a coffee shop, which explains the name of the place. A lot of reviews use the word cozy to describe this place, and I can not think of a better word as it is just that. It looks as if they kept everything original in there and just put in a work space to make coffee. There are comfortable chairs and tables all over to enjoy your tasty orders. If I were a studying or reading kind of guy, this would be the place I would come. They had E.T. playing when we were there, so extra brownie points for that! As always, I didn't know what I wanted, so the very friendly young lady behind the counter gave me great suggestions. The menu is described as a Latin perspective on Montrose coffee culture. Everything on the menu had just that. I ended up with an Horchata Iced Latte. The milky, cinnamoney drink that I loved as a coffee drink was outstanding. I could taste the cinnamon and vanilla even with the two shots of espresso, Everything was so well balanced. She got a Café Cubano and it was tasty. It's a tiny, but mighty drink. I was looking for a good coffee place where my friend and I could sit and talk chisme. The horchata latte is really what drew us to this place. It did not disappoint either! It was so good! Was it an authentic horchata flavor? No, but it was still pretty great. So great that I took my husband a couple of weeks later for the same latte. There were several places to sit and talk, we even got to sit on one of their couches, which made the gossip easier. We stayed so long that we ended up each ordering a second latte. The whole place is very outdated and old but that's exactly what they are going for. It's definitely just an old house that was converted into a coffee shop. It was busy when we got there and it stayed busy for the entire time we were there. The service was quick, though, so we never waited very long for our lattes. We came here in mid-morning to get some work done. The small lot right in front of it was full, but there is a larger lot nearby that I'm not sure is free? Anyway, we parked there and did not get a ticket or towed over the 2 hours we were there. We ordered at the front and had no problems finding a table. This place reminds me of an old house (probably was one at one point) and the separate rooms makes for a quieter experience. The table we found was right next to the bathrooms, which is coded and the code, along with the wifi password, is printed on your receipt. The wifi is strong and I was able to get everything done, and even had an outlet right next to me at my table. The coffee tasted good and was reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and I loved that there is a accessible ramp for those who need it to get in and out. I wanted to try to study here (1/7/2026) before my class after noticing its popularity. The first thing I noticed was how hot it is inside because I started sweating sitting still. I then ordered an iced oat milk matcha to try and cool down and unfortunately it was a very disappointing matcha latte. Very watery, dull green color (never a good sign), and strange taste. I know it's a coffee house, but I truly don't think businesses should offer matcha if they aren't ensuring high quality matcha and proper preparation. Not sure if their oat milk is just watery or what (i noticed reviews mentioning watery coffee as well). I have been trying a lot of matchas in the area and this one is definitely in last place :/ read more
