What a nice little bookstore! I really liked browsing here, and found a couple things I didn't expect to see.

Powell's is a Portland must. My best friend and I spent two hours exploring this bookstore. It's…read moreHUGE! Each time I've visited Portland, I make sure to make a stop here. It's an inspiring place that feels a little like a book maze in the best way possible. They have cool book events too. The day we visited had a book signing. I ended up taking three books home (something I did not expect to do). I came in knowing I wanted to buy "Martyr," which was right at the front in a top reads section. I loved the way each section was organized. There was a Monster Romance section where I ended up taking home a fun summer read called, "There's Something Fishy about my Boyfriend." The floors and sections are divided into different colors. My bestie is a huge history buff, so when we were in the history section, I was surprised to find myself really into the Cleopatra section. I ended up buying a book about her. Everything is reasonably priced and the staff rocks here. They're totally cool with you taking your time exploring and actually reading or looking at the books. We looked through some world record books and photography books. This place really has everything. When I checked out, the cashier was so friendly and was excited about the monster romance I picked. I love coming here. It's a Portland must for a reason!

The employees are so kind, super helpful. I didn't feel rushed when I asked for help. I could've easily spent hours here had I not had outstanding plans.

This Kinokuniya is the best option for Japanese stationary products in greater Portland. There's…read moreanother much smaller one embedded in the Uwajimaya Asian Market in Beaverton. My Son led me here last weekend when I was in town. There was lots of notebooks, pens, and other stuff to consider, and having a Kinokuniya membership (10% off) was a bonus. David was more interested in the manga books, and we were happy browsing in our own little corners. We both happily came away with a small collection of treasures and a promise to return. There were lots of folks here, making the aisles a little tight. But checkout moved quickly and efficiently.

The store is much larger than the one in Chicago! So of course there was a much wider selection of goods, including a lot more Alien Stage items (know the teens are a fan of this show). We ended up signing up for the annual membership which gives you 10% off your purchase immediately and you rack up points (who doesn't love points) which will add up to more savings. We purchased a hard to find art book. Service was friendly, and answered all the questions we had on the membership, not rushing us at all to make the decision.
