Would not recommend this bank. We have had a lot of trouble with tellers that are completely incompetent and lack customer service skills. We have a lot of money tied up with this credit union, and are strongly considering leaving now that they are changing their name to "Rogue Credit Union", which will probably end up being more like a big bank, which is what we don't want. read more

This banks customer service is pretty good. Always willing to help me immediately with opening accounts on the spot. The downtown location is a nightmare though and has made me question closing all my accounts all together. My only other criticism is their app isn't great but I've heard that may get updated soon with the upcoming changes. read more

We bought our car, and Member1 held the note, we got the care 10 months ago and we had made 9 payments meaning 9 months car payments. We found out today that somehow Member1 doesn't count that as car payment, if we pay early they put that towards the principle not monthly payment. It is confusing cause when we go in and make the payment, we told them I am making 3 months payments and then today......they said we put those towards your principal and you need to come and make your monthly payment......What!!!!! Excuse me but if I am making car payments I am making car payments, you put it towards wherever is your job.....BUT !!! Do not call me and tell me I need more car payments when I already PAID you Member1...... I should call and inquire this to the Feds and see what they have to say about it???? Cause this doesn't make sense at all !!!!! read more

I received an offer for their Visa credit card. Tried for two weeks to follow the steps on their website. Never could go to the last step. Website is very bad and it needs way better upgrade. You can call them but there is no solution since every person according to them are not qualified to help you. Went to the branch on Hilltop and they are the rudest people in the banking industry. The worst is Presley K. This lady should work somewhere else. (Maybe a zoo). No wonder they are losing customers. The best Credit Union is Golden 1 CU. Please do not waste your time with this low budget Members Only credit Union. You will regret it. Happy to report that I received a new visa from another local Bank. some of my church members just closed their accounts with Members 1st Credit Union and open new accounts with Golden 1 Credit Union and Wells Fargo Bank. read more

I had a terrible experience with Sierra Central trying to open an account in 2023. This led me to seek out other CU's and I found Members 1st CU. They were above expectations for customer service and we opened an account in person without any problem same day as we called 800 number. Highly recommend! I joined Members 1st because it had positive reviews, and I needed to finally divorce from Bank of America. But the recent unannounced, seemingly paranoid maneuver in Chico has me leaving. You boarded up the ATM because of fear of protests? Without notice! I needed cash when I needed cash. I joined because I thought we, our community, was in charge of our credit union. This move was worse than inconvenient, and it suggests a lack of political alignment, similar values, and the spirit of a credit union. (Aren't lives more important than finances?) I'm adding a star, and I've learned I've been a bit harsh. Casey and everyone I've interacted with at Members 1st have always been nice and helpful. Casey is ESPECIALLY professional, efficient, and informative. Sorry for my criticism, though I'm still not pleased with the boarding up of the branch. I am on social media to a great extent and saw no notice. The note on the ATM only directed me to alternative ATMs, without any explanation as to why the branch was boarded up, or without stating that the others were free. Security cameras and police officers' check-ins should've been sufficient. In the end, the protest was less violent than any single episode of Dance Moms. (Of course, though, hindsight is 20/20.) I'm keeping part of my finances at Members 1st, at least for now. Thank you. read more

Not somewhere you want to do business with. Loan officers never respond to emails in a timely manner, I never got a response to 3-4 of the emails I've sent. It's been 2.5 weeks now. We've exchanged emails previous too. I've called in between but apparently she's busy every second of the day. Honestly, if she's that busy that she can't answer a few questions from a client who has a 45k loan with Members 1st then I need to move on and I did. If you have questions, or want real help, DO NOT come here. You'll never hear from your loan officers, you'll never see them either because of it's part of their "efficient" business ways. read more

Actually terrible. I filed a disputeand they credited me 600 as provisional credits. After they conducted their investigation, they sent me a letter on 5.17.21 saying that the money was going to remain in my account. I log into my account and they took 600 away. They waited 9 f****** days to take it out after I had spent 500 of it for bills. All I got to say is F*** members first,F*** any bank for that matter y'all can kiss my ass. I'll be my own bank. I've been a member of this bank for about 20 years (and I'm 29). They have always been quite good over the years. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I remember when I was trying to transfer money to mom's bank account from my bank account they said that she needed to come down and allow me to transfer money to her account. Common sense would tell you that this is not a security issue since I am trying to transfer money from my own account to another account! And they knew me and my mom since we have banked with them for so long. There was a few other things over the years that they could be more efficient at. They are not a large corporate bank (and that's why I like them) so they need to cut out the bureaucratic red tape and use more common sense when dealing with customers. Take advantage of their small size and be extra customer friendly as a local credit union. If I am trying to transfer money to my mom, let me. Don't make her have to drive all the way into town to approve it. Besides that it's a pretty good bank. I got my first and second car loans through them, and my first credit card through them. Interest rates are always pretty low and the bank tellers, and loan officers are quite helpful in general. I'll continue to stick with them even though I live in San Diego now because they have been consistent and sometimes quite helpful. I would encourage someone to use this bank that has an account with a bigger corporate bank, or is looking to open their first bank account. It has a local feel (most the time) that is quite refreshing. read more

Financed my auto loan through them. It was a nightmare to pay off! I financed my vehicle through them, and had to move out of town. After I moved, I wanted to pay it off completely. However, in order to pay it off, you have to do so IN PERSON. They would not allow me to pay it over the phone or online. They said I could send a check, however interest would still accrue daily while it was in the mail. I discussed matters with them over the phone, and was eventually connected to the supervisor that oversees loans. Immediately, she was abrupt and rude. They told me I had no other option other than to drive 600 miles to pay it off. Eventually, I had a family member that lived nearby to come into the branch and pay it off for me. However, this not only inconvenienced them, but made the pay off a head ache, whereas it should be a joyous event. In the end, I recommended to the supervisor that they explore other ways to allow their members to pay off their loans. She shrugged with apathy and appeased my sentiment by saying should would 'bring it up' in their next staff meeting. I closed my account, (of 10 years) and have been spreading the word to individuals about my poor experience. I HIGHLY recommend staying away from them for loans, despite their typically low rates. Also, I'm a prior corporate bank employee and a prior credit union employee. My problem was unheard of in both of my prior financial institutions. read more

Reposting my review because my original 1 star review that was posted just last month suddenly disappeared after the business replied to me. Makes me think Yelp is not as honest as they portray. Anyways, still having consistent problems one after another with this business. Not sure what to say at this point...where should I start? Avoid this place like the plague. I just got a loan not long ago and already see they are super unorganized and dysfunctional. This erupts onto the customer experiences. I have spoken with reps at least 6 times (called much more than that) in the last 2 months trying to get everything straight. Attempted to enroll online but did not know my account # since I am brand new. Called to ask and after giving the lady my social security number, she told me she could not share such personal information with me via the phone. Really?! I just gave my social (much more personal than a policy #) yet could not get any information from my account? I was told I would have to hurry up and run to my local branch that was closing in 10 minutes to get the account number. Not even possible with my kids. I asked for a direct phone number to call and the lady said there was not one. I called the next day and they gave me my account number no problem. Finally I could create an online account! Attempted to do so but could not because the website claimed my policy # was incorrect. So I made another call and they confirmed my number was correct but they were having problems with the site. They said it has been happening quite often with others and they are working on fixing the issue. So, I finally paid my bill via the phone and we set up a direct deposit for reoccurring payments. Fast forward to a month later (this month) and I see nothing has been withdrawn. I call to check up and make sure it was set up and the guy said no problems. I was told that because it was a holiday it would come out a couple days late. Fast forward to a couple days later and nothing has happened. I call back to question it and they say someone set up the direct deposit wrong. I gave all my banking info when setting it up yet they claimed they had no information on where the payments would come out from. Apparently, someone set it up to come out of the account the loan was in instead of the account I told them to take it out of. Now they are blaming it on me saying it was a mistake on my end and that I needed to set it up from my other bank instead of with them. They also said I would be charged a late fee for this mistake even though I was assured everything was fine up until now. I told the lady that is not right to do this to someone and she said she would talk to her boss and call back later. I am so frustrated with this company, I have spent hours trying to get this right...time I needed to do other things. Now I am wasting my time writing this long review but people need to be warned to stay away. This place is ridiculous. What a big scam! read more

I've been going to Members 1st for my financial services since 1997, when it was still North State Public Employees Credit Union. I've moved out of the area several times and even so, still continue to use them as my financial institution. One of the great services they offer (in addition to friendly staff who know your name when you walk through the door) is their remote deposit feature via mobile devices. Since I now live in the Bay Area, I cannot easily go into a branch and deposit checks (all the locations are in Northern, CA). ...and the saga continues - - - I went in yesterday (Monday) and was told by the young lady that I am to get my debit card "next week" Tuesday. Then the other teller (who helped us open the account a few weeks back) piped in and said that it's "not next week" - it is Tuesday "this week". I said you mean tomorrow? She said yes - and that if I don't receive the card by tomorrow that I should come in and they will reorder it waiving the $35 fee for expedite processing. Today (Tuesday), my husband came home having been from the bank and was told by the bank manager that when I brought in the "bad" debit card (almost 2 weeks ago) the first time for replacement card (due to misspelled last name), the teller never ordered it. BUT - - - - my husband was just with that same teller a few minutes before and she told him that she ordered it (after she looked at her screen and looked at my husband straight-faced) - - but here the bank manager says there is no record on the computer showing it was re-ordered from when I first requested it. The only reorder the bank manager shows was when my husband went back in AFTER my visit. Now the bank manager told my husband that IF we do not get our debit card by "Thursday" this week (yesterday, I was told Tuesday which is today - by the ladies) then he will waive the $45 fee for urgent process (yesterday I was told $35). I know - I know - big deal, right? I guess all these are really pointless. THE REAL POINT HERE IS --- Hard to do business with people that can look you straight in the face BUT are giving you different answers, don't you think? Everybody makes mistakes, I "still" do! BUT PLEASE, own it and apologize - have integrity and be honest. Except yesterday, the one lady admitted she misspelled our names but no apologies made at all. Just - so so sad..... Since this credit union has bought out the one I chose to open an account with I have noticed the lack of personal care I had with our old credit union. The fact that after the servers came on line we were charged for items that had cleared a month before as our old bank. It's not as friendly, the staff that is still at our old bank seem on edge. It's just not what I signed up for and voted against the merger as I had a feeling this wasn't a good fit. Our old bank had heart and looked after the customers, Members First seems to want to be a big box corporate bank that doesn't care for its customers. We've banked with Member's 1st for over 30 years, so I can honestly say, I liked their service. I liked it so much that I continued banking with them long distance after moving to Sacramento (for 7 years). However, over the past few years we have been disappointed and frustrated with the service that we've received from Amy and Sarah. I don't want to bore you with the past details; suffice it to say that we had been noticing the decline in customer service. Our most recent experiences confirmed that it wasn't just simple mistakes...the service is simply poor now. Recently, it took us over 6 months and several letters and phone calls just to get our address changed. Then. after we were assured that our address had been changed, my husband specifically made a point to call in our order for new checks. so that he could emphasize our new address and ensure that our new address was clear. After waiting 3 weeks for the checks, I called to get the status... only to find that the checks were mailed to our old address. We canceled that order and Kelly the manager said she'd re-order them. A few days later, I called the Credit Union back because I wanted to ensure that the company had received the initial checks back. Amy assured me that they had not and we discussed the issue at length. When I realized that Amy wasn't even looking at my account as she gave me the assurance that the company hadn't received the checks... I asked to speak to a manager. The call was transferred to Sarah. I asked Sarah if she was the manager and she said "no, I'm a supervisor"... I told Sarah "I asked to speak to a manager".... and then SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!!!! I called back and told Amy that I wanted to speak to a manager. She put me on hold and then told me that all of the manager's lines were busy. I then told her how displeased we've been with the service that she and Sarah have given us...and told her to please cancel our order for the checks, because we were going to close our account and bank elsewhere. She told me that she couldn't cancel the checks. We did not hear back from a manager from that call and we ARE closing our account, only due to the VERY POOR and UNINTELLIGENT customer service we have experienced over and over again for the last few years. I had the most rude clerk ever today. I was trying to transfer money from savings to checking and get some cash out of the money I had put in checking...She informed me we were late with our visa pmt and that that would have to be paid before I could access our funds..The visa is 15 days late as of today..I told her my hubby makes his visa card pmt and that I would have him call this afternoon...She tried 7 times to get the money transferred from savings to checking, having to make a phone call to be overridden every time..I finally told her to just pull the cash I needed out of savings without the transfer and she told me she would rather do the transfer and withdrawll..I informed her that it was about what I wanted to do ..not her...I was flabbergasted and shocked at the lack of personal and professional skills..Not to mention customer service or lack there of...There were 4 people in line behind me to witness this embarrassment...We have been their customer for over 20 years..The visa has ALWAYS been paid...That doll treated me terrible..Shame on you Members First...I think it is time for a change... read more
