We've had nothing but great customer service in the few months that we have been at Members Choice. We went to get a loan and it was very quick and easy and they really treated us like family. I'm not the most bank savvy person so they're always super helpful (and patient) with all of my questions. They are a small bank, so after hours services aren't as splendorous as major banks. We have checking accounts with a different bank too to avoid that problem. I went to make a deposit today with my dog in the car and they gave her some treats! I really like a bank who's first words to you are, "Hi! How are you doing today?" It really makes us feel special. read more

I had a very disappointing experience applying for a home equity loan with Members Choice Credit Union. Back in April, I submitted my application and was told I would be contacted. Weeks went by without any response. I had to repeatedly call myself, only to be asked for more information that I quickly provided. Still, no one followed up. When I finally got through again, I was told I was approved and that someone would call me back so I could sign the closing documents. That call never came. I had to keep chasing them down. The loan officer handling my case, Sandra Curiel, even told me she would call after the labor day weekend, but weeks passed and I still received no update. After months of being ignored, I lost trust in the process and decided to take my business to Chase. To make matters worse, after all that time, I only received a late apology call. This lack of communication and professionalism is unacceptable. If you are considering doing business here, be prepared to do all the follow-up work yourself. I do not recommend Members Choice Credit Union for anyone who values reliability or timely communication. The worst Customer Service I've experienced with a reputable institution -- impossible to get anyone to answer the phone. They think nothing of keeping 19, 20 people on the line waiting - for a bank, this is shocking. One cannot speak directly to the Manager of any one of the branches as there's no way to get someone on the line to put you through; I finally got someone at the headquarter location offer to put me through to a branch and get the Manager on the phone, but then was told the branch was not answering their phone. If you deal with cash MCCU is not the bank for you. Very low daily ATM withdrawal limit. Slow tellers. And branches that do not keep much cash on hand. Oddly, there seems to be no limit on the amount of cash you can deposit. read more

So originally I heard nothing but great reviews about this bank. Boy, was I wrong. Their Katy branch is weird. No teller booths like a normal bank would have. You walk in and it's a ghost town. You practically have to walk around to find someone and half the time your either ignored or no one smiles. Also, don't even bother trying to get a loan through MCCU, because the minute your late just ONCE (even if you have had good standings from making payments on time from past loans) they still will put a huge "General Hold" on your checking account; meaning they automatically take your money away without first contacting you, or at least emailing you about the heads up. Plus they don't even list WHO the general hold is from. ALSO (nope not done yet with all that's been wrong about this pos bank) is any of the thousands of black listed companies their fraud department has on their list; like the food service known as Factor, they automatically decline their charge, SHUT your card down without notifying you. Then if only way you can have your card turned back on is you have to go to a branch and tell them what happened and then have to wait 10-15 days in order to get a new card. These dumbasses don't even give you a temporary debit card to use since you have to wait so long for a new one. Most banks offer a temporary debit card but not MCCU. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. They are a nightmare to deal with. read more

John Padilla II is an incredibly rude and dismissive man. The bank was recently attacked by an account breach which led to money being fraudulently removed from my account. I removed my money and requested my account be locked and frozen. Despite this, fees were still piled on. My account was then written off and reported as a debt to credit agencies. Upon trying to resolve this, John not only talked over me, belittled me, and talked in a condescending manner, he also refused to elevate to his manager and hung up on me. Now, I was a victim of hacking, a victim of account closure and false credit reporting, and now a victim of poor customer service. At no point was there a resolution that acknowledged I was a victim. Save your time and money. Do not bank here. Your money isn't safe, and if John is an indication of customer service, your credit isn't safe either. read more

It is 2:11 pm 11/11/25 . I was on hold to speak with a banker for 30 minutes to request to apply by phone for a Visa credit card. The gentleman for whom I finally spoke to about this said he would need to transfer me to the Team that handles over the phone applications. I got what sounded like an "AI" generated voice saying, sorry unable to complete your call and abruptly disconnected the call. Very Rude and a waste of my time . I had a situation with a payment to my credit card. I made the payment with a representative but the payment never posted or debited my institution. I contacted Members Choice because I was charged a late fee and a negative for the payment. ERIK GUERRERO listened, contacted the right department to help me. Took time and allowed the representative from.my institution to explain as proof that the payment was never presented for deduction. Wow, just wow. Probably the worst banking institution I have ever had to deal with and that's saying a lot considering I have a chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America account. Would not recommend ever for any reason! Angela and the little middle eastern chick were not helpful at all, in fact my previous experience was great and had I been asked then I totally would have recommend them, however after my experience today, I would never even if my life depended on it. That was absolutely ridiculous especially considering all I needed to do was deposit $15, into my account. $15! Like I lost more money being out of my office than the amount of money I needed to deposit into an account I don't even use!!!!! I wish I could give less than one star. These people are truly idiots. You have a corporate structure that is borderline "big bank" and cares only about revenue and loan dollars. You have staff that is heartless and ignorant about their industry. And you have members that are in need of education and guidance, with no support from their banking institution. The goal of a credit union is for the benefit of the members. Yet simple questions often require 2-3 phone calls up the chain before getting back ridiculous and inaccurate information. I beg all of you, leave MCCU, members and staff alike. Corporate does not care to educate its staff, at all. Lending practices seem very inconsistent. Service is better at Wal Mart. And nobody seems to want to give you the time of day unless you are Rupert Murdoch. Why would I ever apply for a loan, wait two weeks for a declined response, and "try again" at a rate double the industry standard? Inflation and recession are coming...I'd advise the powers that be at MCCU to wake up and realize they will run their credit union into the ground. Clearly nepotism and favoritism has earned these "leaders" their spot. My advice is they remove their noggins from their rectum, it's not a hat! read more

I've been banking with members choice for just over 7 years. everything was great until two weeks ago. my transmission went out. I had to liquidate assets and transfer money in order to pay for it. I caught a ride across town to pick up my car and try to pay for it. first I use my debit card, didn't work. then a check still declined. so I call members choice only to be told there is a limit to how much money I can spend in a day and since it's 5 and after hours they can't help me. spending over 2k to fix my car that I'm still paying off shouldn't be any more painful than it already is. last week after work I go run some errands. when I swipe my card I am told that the card is flagged as fraud. members choice deactivated my card without notifying me. luckily I wasn't across town and needing to get gas. when i called they said they would rush deliver me a new card in time for me to go out of town for the weekend. I did not receive that card at all. I did however locate the card they had initially sent me a month ago so I tried to activate it. no such luck. so now I need to buy groceries for the week and put gas in my car to get to work and can't access my money. the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. and if you need assistance after hours in most cases your out of luck. get it together members choice. I'm currently finding a new bank. read more

I have banked with MCCU for more than 10 years. We have had ups and downs over this time, as I am self-employed. We have paid off one loan and about to pay off another loan with MCCU. When we tried to get a pre-approved letter from them, they denied us because of incorrect information on the credit report and are not willing to work with us even though we provided proof of the discrepancies. No more loans from them ever!!!! Be ware. Bank with someone who works with you. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Refuse their "CHOICE PAY" service! It is pretty much a scam that starts 30 days after opening an account, even if you set your parameters to forbid negative balance and lock your card when the account reaches zero. I opened my first US bank account at this Credit Union. I read my contract and asked about overdraft fees, I told them I have other bank accounts and will never need to go overdraft with them, consequently we agreed to lock my debit card if my balance reaches zero and to forbid negative balance (avoiding overdraft fees). One month after opening my account, MCCU unilaterally modified the lower limit from zero to negative 600 ! They sent me a letter saying this was available and it was a great offer and a privilege etc... I was not interested so I did not opt in. Actually it was not an offer to opt in but a notification and the changed was made without my approval! I ended up going overdraft, unaware that the limit was modified. They charged me several overdraft fees (28 dollars each) and refused to recognized that changing my lower without my approval was bad practice. I thought they were friendly and available, and they probably are nice people but now that I know how they change the settings of your account without your approval: I will never trust them again. read more

I highly recommend going to a different Bank then Members Choice. They will slap you with overdraft fee after overdraft fee even if you have the money in your account all because a pending transaction may make you negative. We have had transactions pending for up to 3 days with money in our account but got charged multiple overdraft fees because the pending transaction may put us negative if it goes through even if the transaction went through finally after we got paid. We wouldn't have been negative but was put in the negative by the bank. This has happened multiple times to us. We were just hit with 6 overdraft fees due to a billing company taking a payment earlier then schedule but because that transaction went into the pending status we were charged for 5 overdraft fees when we would have had over $20 in our account when the unexpected bill finally posted. We were charged $168.00 in overdraft fees when we should have only been charged $28.00 but because they charged us $140 more they put us in the negative status before the 1 transaction that would have landed us there even went through. When I tried to stop tje payment from going through both the billing company and the bank told me there was nothing they could do. This isn't the first time this Bank has done this to us. I spent over 30 minutes trying to get to talk to a actual person and for nothing. This bank is a joke. If you call them about it they may credit up to 3 overdraft fees back but that's it because that's their limit. A complaint has been filed against them for what they have done to us. On top of that they have also transferred 6 cents from our savings account into our checking while we had money in our checking then charged us a $5.00 transfer fee for it. When we had a loan through them I paid off the full amount shown that we owed just for them to say we owed another $1.36 still even though I just paid the full amount shown. We will be looking into closing oir accounts and going to a different Bank. read more
