Went golfing as a team building experience for work. This was literally my second time golfing and it was honestly fun. Downfall, there is no shade. We were cooking in that sun. If you happen to go and you end up on the top level, be sure to use all protection to keep from burning in the sun. My advice. There is a lot of room for everyone to be stretched out, no one in the way, and plenty of area for everyone to enjoy themselves. I found it so fun. Can't wait to go back. It was in a nice area it's very big. They even have Beck's Prime on the property just in case you need a break and something to eat. read more

An unbelievable oasis, with little or no on course water unfortunately - the midst of Memorial Park in Houston. This wonderful living testament to community will power amidst City owned municipal golf courses, not to mention the powerful hand of PGA Tour-stop - and has resulted in a spectacular modern 18 hole track The course can be walked in an easy on4 1/2 hours. This is Southwestern Sojourner's third visit to Memorial - the second since public Astro Foundation and Houston Conservancy Park partnership $47 for a Houston City proper resident. .... a higher tariff for out-of Houston proper guests - 125! Very popular and very busy golf course, too busy really, but considering this is a public course it's pretty excellent. It might actually be one of the best public courses in all of Texas, so if you're into Golf come and check it out. Very impressive indeed. Because it's so good and because it is public and because it's in the heart of the fourth biggest city in the country then you can expect overcrowding and such but it's still good for golf fans. read more

The only thing holding me back from giving this course 5 stars is that there's not really much scenery to this track. The designers of this course recently went in and updated the layout a few years ago to make it more challenging for the pros who play here during the Houston Open. And because it hosts the local PGA tour, it means that this place is very busy. They shut the course down on Tuesdays to let it recover because it's so busy. There is no shortage of business for this place. Please be in the right frame of mind when coming to play here. This is one of busiest public municipal golf courses in the country. They have the luxury to show a dearth of empathy regarding your tee time because they are so busy. There are 10 players lined up on the wait list ready to pounce on the next opening. You will not be missed if you come here and act like a demanding jerk then get yourself kicked out. I shouldn't have to say this, but be nice. They don't care how much you paid and neither does anyone else. That being said, the clubhouse staff here is wonderful and will do their best to accommodate you, within reason. The marshals here tend to be on the aggressive side. I will never understand why they act the way they do. Just don't start anything with these guys, I've seen them threaten to kick people out several times for minor things, so beware. The price to play here is dependent on whether or not you live in Houston. Local residents will receive a steep discount vs those living outside the boundary line. Check the website for the most up to date information on that subject. My tip for those that want to play here is to show up solo and get on the standby list. There are those who would also suggest to book online, but the prime tee times get swallowed up pretty quickly and are near impossible to get. Also important to know is that the parking lot here is a paid parking lot. You'll need to interact with the parking ticket kiosk to get a stub and place it on your dashboard or you could use the ParkMobile app if you'd rather go that route. The local parking enforcement is strict and they actively roam the area 7 days a week. Sunday is no exception. The layout is brutal. You will struggle. There's not many places to lose balls. Not a lot of bunkers or water hazards in the latest re design either. But that doesn't mean this course is easy. They've got several "domed" greens to litter your scorecard with snowmen and some brutally long par 4's so you can hit your 3 wood in on your approach shot. This course is designed to beat you up. The agronomy is top notch too. The staff know what they're doing to keep the course in tip top shape. Do your best to relax and enjoy a nice long round of golf. If your head is in the right place, you'll love this course. The burgers at Beck's Prime are to die for too. Don't miss out on one of those after your round. read more

This is the gold standard for municipal courses in Houston. The course and attached amenities are hard to beat at their price point and central location in town. Driving range has more than enough mats, where even on a beautiful day, it won't be more than a few minutes wait. Buckets are about $8 for a large if I remember correctly. All or most of the bays are covered so there's at least a little bit of love when it's blazing hot outside. There's a large chip and putt green attached to the range as well, so you can get your full practice routine in. Attached to the clubhouse and nearby the driving range, there's a Beck's Prime which covers your beer and burger needs in between buckets or rounds. The course itself is well maintained. The greens and fairways are typically in good shape and have few scars or dry patches. They're making a big push to take over the Houston Open in the coming year, so there may be even more to praise about if that happens. (After months of renovations and grumbles in between I'm sure) Only con to look out for is that they are crazy busy at peak hours/days. The course is the easiest to reach for many Houstonians, and that coupled with a pretty agreeable green fee, you're going to be elbowing people for a tee time. There is a lottery system in place that notifies you 4 days out if you've "won" the peak hour tee time you applied for. You could always call in sick to work and walk on for a lazy Tuesday round... read more

I am a native Houstonian, born and raised here for 52 years now, and I was told that I have to pay non-resident rate .... I live in Houston and my TDL has said Houston, Texas for 36 years !!! II pay my personal taxes and both of my companies that I own pay taxes to Houston. I had to pay $122 to play 1 round of golf because I am a "non-resident". I can play many other courses just as nice or nicer in "Houston" 2 times for the same price as this. I need someone to explain to me why I am not a "resident" ??? If your TDL which I showed has an address that says Houston, Texas you should be considered a resident regardless of what "zone" you are in. read more

This course just went under a major renovation in order to host a PGA event next year. Opened on 11/5 after being down a little over a year. I played Thursday 11/7 only 9 holes before I got rained out. Here is what I got - Greens are challenging, fast, not flat. Par 3 #2 green in particular is wild (completely new hole). They moved the tees around to not only make a much longer carry to the fairways but also new angles into the fairway. #3 and #4 can punish you in this aspect.... Removed a lot of the brush that used to line the holes but left trees in strategic places as obstacles. #8 plays 600+ from tips and 700 from tourney tee box - Fun hole. #9 is now a par 3, but you still have to go over the creek with sand lining the green. One thing I didn't like is they removed some of the water on the front 9. #6 does not have the pond anymore to the front left but it's a deep hole now and long way up to the green. Also #1 no more water on the left. All in all - great job on the reno, course can punish you just like before and am looking forward to playing the back 9 and finishing a round (hopefully in the 80s). Play the blue tees if you can carry 240 on the drive consistently. Also, I see this course being cart path only no matter what for the foreseeable future. Bust out the push cart. read more

How sad that Houston let this happen to our community golf course for one PGA Tournament! Lost so many trees and water features. The architect has even decided not to put hole number signs out because "that's not what you do right now". And the continued up / downs and greens are similar to a miniature golf course. I've played this course for years and loved it's character. There is definitely no character left. In addition, the people in the golf shop are not friendly. Memorial Golf Course is beautiful with tons of amenities, 2-deck range, practice green, Becks Prime with beer/wine etc. If you live in the inner city it is an awesome benefit. This said, everything here is overpriced - round of golf, range buckets, food, beer, parking (yes, govt charges you just to park), etc. I guess prices could be worse, and I haven't seen their balance sheets, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't generate revenue for the city with mostly tax paying citizens who use it. read more

It's a public course so you shouldn't expect the greenest greens and cleanest fairways. The price for 1 + 1/2 of a cart is $49 which is pretty steep. You can go anytime during the day and play but expect to wait. Can get crowded at times. My average wait is around 30 mins or so. read more

Nice course in the middle of Houston that is opened to the public. The caveat is is whether you can get a T time through their odd lottery system online. Course has decent length but a pretty boring layout for the most part. The rough can get thick, which can spoil your Tee to green plans. Blue: 7305 White: 6523 Gold: 5980 Red: 5459 There is a driving range there which is all mat's, no grass. The balls are pretty cheap but really tore up like any puppy's favorite chew toy. The chipping/putting area is very nice but can get crowded when the local golf teams show up. This was one of Freddie Couple's favorite courses and I can see why. It's a treat to walk this course and have a meal at the Becks Prime which dubs as the club house. Edited: played may 2012, greens are in bad shape. Bumpy with dead spots all over. Down graded to 2 stars. Weekend starters are rude, and the round could get over the 5 hour mark. But not surprised since this is ran by your tax $$ by the government. read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon (3:20), twilight pricing for $36. I was playing solo so I got paired up with a group and everyone was very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. I hit a bucket of balls ($6 for a small bucket) before hand - the range was decent and not too crowded. My only complaint was that it was irons only. Not a big deal, just wanted to get a few swings with my driver before my tee time. A majority of the greens were elevated and a little bumpy. They played quick and were a good challenge. I got caught in the rough a few times and the grass was a bit long, but other than that the course was in good shape. It was a great afternoon and a stellar location. Looking forward to the Houston Open in the coming months. read more

2 Words - Goat track. Played 5/14/21. If you aren't a city of Houston resident, weekday green fees are $136 with a cart. Entire course had just been aerated. The greens were extremely slow and very bumpy. The tee boxes had very little grass on them and the fairways were covered with unfilled divots and a lot of areas with very thin grass coverage. All of that withstanding, I liked the old layout better. The new layout is wide open fairways, with a few bunkers (sand and grass) and then the green complexes are ridiculous. All that's missing are windmills and a clowns mouth. No wonder a lot of the pros that played here last year have already said they aren't coming back. I know I won't be back. read more

Saw no available tee times online, so I called just to confirm. She told me she could squeeze me in around 6 pm (super late). So she put me on hold for 4+ minutes, an older man answered and told me there was no way. Said there was a waiting list and I can get on waiting list. As a non-resident it is a one-start rating. It was not until we checked in that my rate changed from $40 to $121. A 6:10pm tee time,$121 for 9 holes!?! Twilight price? It is not. Absolutely ridiculous. I have paid less to play some of the best clubs with mountain views in Colorado. Had I not been golfing with others I would not have paid the price but it was embarrassing at check out to then realize it was THREE times the amount expected. read more

Great course great layout. I got out early on a Friday morning so parking was not an issue; however, I have gone later in the day and parking was a challenge. The joggers park in the lot and make it difficult for the golfers. The course is a nice layout. I did walk up and did not have a tee time but only waited 35 min and I was out. The greens and fairways are in good shape. The greens were running about 13 not too fast. I have and will play again and recommend it as well. read more

Any reviews on here earlier than 2021 are useless, and have no bearing on the current course. I've played more rounds (I'd estimate 600+) on this course than any on earth, and I've played a bunch of golf. I loved the old course, it was a beautiful design that underwent a complete renovation in the mid '90's and remained in fantastic shape. That said, I was extremely excited about the Tom Doak redesign, he's truly a legend in Golf Course design. So after 4 rounds in the first year re-open, to let it grow in, I was tremendously disappointed. Much of the character of the course is gone. Dozens and dozens of beautiful trees that framed holes were removed, and an inland-Links style course routed around a natural drainage bayou (ditch) was put in it's place. Almost all of the small and beautiful water features and rock retaining walls were removed and replaced with.... grass. It made no sense. From the white tees the course is in essence an executive course now, and there is no continuity to the course. Hit is basically anywhere on holes 1 - 15, and all is well. Then the un-matched very difficult green complexes make scoring difficult. IT IS TEXTBOOK GOOFY GOLF. Holes 16 - 18 are vast improvements over the original, but seem out of place with the design of the previous 15 holes. It's like another course. Then add to that the absolutely ridiculous price of $150 (with cart) to play this course unless you live in a very small designated area of Houston, and it's gone from the best deal in golf nationwide (my opinion), to an unsustainable rip-off. There is no way anyone should pay that for this course. It is not on the same level as Blackhorse, Meadowbrook Farms, or Wildcat which all cost less, and I would put past their glory day courses such as Southwyck and Greatwood as much better alternatives especially given price. read more

If you don't live within the small confines of their Houston city limits map, be prepared to pay the 'non-local' green fee which happens to be $140 (yes, to play memorial park... ridiculous, I know). Even if I were to pay the $140, this course is NO WHERE near the cost of that fee.. The conditions of the course look similar to sharpstown (which is only $18). If you don't live right down the road from the course to pay the $30 green fee, stay away. I would much rather spend the gas to drive to New York and play bethpage black which is about the same cost, but WAY better shape. If you're going to make your green fees $140, at least make it worth it... this is ripping people off. read more

We were looking forward to golfing this course based on reputation. Pace of play was so slow- 4 hours and 55 minutes on a Wednesday morning! There was a marshall that drove by once- didn't wave, stop, talk, nothing. At the proshop, no "welcome to the course" or any info about the course. The starter sits at a table with no welcome, smile or information. For the price, try a different course. Either the reputation of this course is based on previous years or it works towards being ready for key events only. read more

I love coming here just to hit some balls after work. There's many driving range mats, even on the most crowded, gorgeous spring afternoons, I only wait 10-15 minutes or so. A large bucket of balls runs you about 8$ and couple that with a 4$ beer at the adjacent Beck's Prime, you've set yourself up for a relaxing afternoon outside working on your swing. Parking can be difficult to find at times when the golf-only lot is full, but there is plentiful street parking as well as lot parking across the street at the church. People can be kind of aggressive trying to wait in line for a mat, so I suggest asking the person ahead of you golfing if anyone is waiting on their spot; most of the time they will then offer it to you when finished. Played this course about a week after greens had been punched and sanded. That didn't really bother me, but it was not referenced anywhere from booking through paying my greens fees. As an out of town player, the still charged $120 for a Monday morning time. Also not a big issue since they just had a huge renovation by a great course designer. I expected the city of Houston to charge out of town players a ton to play a PGA tour course by a celebrity designer. But after playing the first handful of holes one can tell this course is not managed properly by the city of Houston. The first fact that they did not notify players making tee times that there greens had been recently punched and additionally not offering reduced rates like almost all courses should have been my initial thoughts. But once on the course the issues became even more apparent for a course wanting to charge $120 a round.There were uncontrolled weeds just about everywhere, bare spots on the greens/fairways, and pretty much untended areas all across the course. I understand that this is still a muni course, but when charging elite course rates one expects to have elite on course conditions and experience. For reference, I played in muni in New Braunfels ($60) later in the week that gets around the same amount of play and it was in much better condition than this course which hosts a PGA tour event.....This course relays on notoriety from its recent renovation, but is poorly managed outside of the 2 weeks of the Houston Open. Bottom line, if you are not a resident of Houston it is not worth playing this course. read more

I started golfing in the beginning of 2016. I was taking lessons with Glen C. and really enjoyed myself. I like how easy it is for me to get to this course in the center of memorial park. Parking can be a little tricky at peak times but I always get a spot. I normally am on the practice range and it is really easy to walk up, buy the bucket of balls, and start practicing. Hmmmm where should I start? For starters, this place can get extremely crowded at the obvious times so don't plan on walking on unless you go solo or only want to play 7 holes before sun down. Just make your tee time online and plan accordingly. The best days to play are early in the week and at early times. Same goes for the range; expect a wait during rush hour. There are a lot of high school kids that crowd up the place in the afternoon. Practice facilities: The range is nice and spacious. Only downside is you have to hit off mats and rubber tees. They have plenty of targets out there to work on distances. If you hit the long ball they might tell you to put the driver away. I have hit it over the net a few times and was told to stop. I can't help it! Putting greens are nice and chipping area works for me. They have a trap to practice out of. Course: I love the layout! This is what keeps me coming back. They can make it really tough and also really easy. Expect to wait on all the par 3s. Staff: I have met some very friendly staff and also some real a-holes. I go to this course once a week and they treat me as if I've never played. The starter also accused me of stealing!! Yes can you believe it. Right before I teed off on #1. That's a big no no. I have everything a golfer could want. Why would I steal. He also accused me of breaking the 90 rule on every hole once when I was -2 thru 9. I know better and why was he following me on every hole??? Maintenance crew does a great job. Beck's Prime: hot dog is killer and so are the sandwiches. Great place to chill and get normal food at a public course. Can be a bit over priced but to each is own. Only reason I give it a three is because some of the staff can be rude and accusing me of stealing is an awful thing to do. He did come up a few holes later to tell me he had the wrong guy. I use the range and putting green often because it's the closest place to where I live. I've only played once because I was invited. I have not once been able to book a tee time at a desirable time (usually only 5pm and after tee times are available). The price also recently got significantly more expensive. It used to be around $50 total to play now I think it's up to $80 for just the green fee on the weekend. This is an awesome course and I really hope to play it again soon but they NEED to do something about the tee time situation. Memorial Park Golf is wonderful, been playing the course weekly for years. However, the pace of play has become entirely too slow. 4 hours 55 minutes today, on a Thursday! 10:20 to 3:15. Saw the Marshall several times, but he just drove by. Please consider getting the Marshalls involved in pace of play. I understand MP is a public course with heavy play, but 4.55?? I am giving MP 5 stars, I love the course and people, but pace has to improve. Can play 4some at Gus Wortham in 4 hours, sometimes a few minutes less. Can something be done? read more

A driving range is a perfect way to clear your mind, blow off a little stress and to hone your skills. Nothing makes me smile more than getting a basket of shiny yellow balls and smacking them to kingdom come with the largest driver I've got. Even if you aren't good at actually hitting the ball... practice makes perfect and this is a great place to practice even for a novice. On my past visit this weekend there were several kids as well as experienced golfers on the range. The lanes are nicely spaced, and the hours are quite flexible for those of you who like to hit early or late. The prices are great and its quite cheap to get a large bucket. I do like the BYOB aspect but I'm not really one to drink unless I'm out there with a few buddies. If you haven't been or just want to try it out this is an excellent place to do it and have a little fun while you're at it. read more

All the renovations and not one sign to tell you what hole you're on. Bathrooms on the course locked up tight. (Seriously, why??). Paid extra $15 to book in advance. Our experience is it's not worth it! Houston has so many great public golf courses, with all the nice amenities. Memorial has lost it's appeal and is poorly managed. read more

The starters are rude, completely unorganized and really good at taking money but wasting time. Been golfing at memorial 6 plus years now and I have never seen it this bad. Don't know what happened over the last year but the system they implemented has only made the whole tee off process worse. Overall though course is in decent shape year after year, so if you get an actual tee time I'd play. read more
