This one pound mozzarella stick definitely fulfilled that criteria. It was so gigantic it was almost like getting a workout in just to lift it. The outside was heavily breaded with bread crumbs and the top was sprinkled with parmesan cheese and chopped scallions. Even the dipping cup was supersized to accommodate the diameter of the stick! Typically, I would have posted until after my I finished my oversized food compilation project. However, it's being posted early because The Brookdale is permanently closing its doors. I am truly sad to hear they will no longer be in business, but their three sister restaurants at 1109 Broad Street will still remain open. #thebrookdale #thebigcheese #bloomfieldnj

Service was good and the restaurant with low lighting was a good vibe! Its split into a half bar and half dining area which i liked. Only complaint i can think of is they didnt have many options of beer on tap as they advertised on thier menu. Overall good experience would recommend!

It feels more like a city park than a quiet garden. I personally would not return, though I see why neighbors enjoy having green space nearby. When I visited, a large group had formed a circle that occupied an entire section of the small rose garden. There were no signs indicating the area was reserved, and their gathering unintentionally made the space feel closed off to other visitors. In shared public spaces like this, especially in smaller gardens, it is important for any group, whether local or new to the community, to be mindful of the park's norms and not treat the small public garden like it's only for them. Many people visiting or living here may not be aware of how these spaces are typically used, so a little consideration goes a long way in keeping the park welcoming for everyone.

I grew up with Brookdale Park. I would bike over with Daddy - or in the beginning, trike over - and…read morewe would ride the paths together. Down the little dirt trail by the stream near Watchung Ave., see if I could make it down the ditch under the bridge, then back up near the duck pond to look at the birds. Over to the playground, down the tall metal slide (burning in the hot sun), on and under the wooden playground (splinters and the occasional scary bee), and riding the swings, both pony-themed and regular. Slow forward to 2025. Brookdale still has the same paved paths. The old dirt trail gradually became a bunch of bumps for dirt bikes instead of my regular bike. The duck pond was filled in years ago but is now a wetlands area. The playground has been modernized a couple of times and is now modern, safe plastic. Still pony-themed swings. The old gravel track is now modern plastic for running or similar sports - though there was something special about sliding my bike around the turns on that gravel track. You just can't ride on a running track. There's an annual softball tournament there we still play, and the fields really haven't changed, though I've heard it's been getting tougher to get things reserved properly. So it's still a wonderful park, but without the ducks and with the complications to holding in park events, the fifth star has gone away with my childhood. That's OK. It will always be 5 stars in my heart.

We had high hopes that this move…read morefrom independent living would continue to foster our mother's sense of dignity and self-worth. Unfortunately, our experience didn't match our expectations. The facility was clean, pleasant, and the activities and food were without complaint. Our biggest and most consistent issue was how our mother was treated by the staff and the lack of appropriate action taken by administration to address these concerns. Our issue was solely with the administration and how they handled the complaints we made on behalf of our mother and her treatment by the aides. A slight stroke left out mother with limited mobility which necessitated a move to assisted living. Being confined to a wheelchair meant that our mother was completely reliant on the aides to for every physical move; ie in and out of her recliner, wheelchair, toilet, commode etc. The only thing our mother could do was brush her teeth and feed herself. Dressing, toileting and even just reaching for her water, tv remote, and blankets was impossible. Therefore her reliance on the aides was all encompassing. While some of the aides treated out mother with patience and respect, there was a consistent lack of understanding, a sense that out mother should be doing more to assist the aides and a conveyed feeling that our mother was a burden and inconvenience. Over the course of 17 months, we reported specific instances of inappropriate, rude and hurtful comments, such as; " you are too heavy for us to move", "you don't help us at all", "stop drinking so we don't have to toilet you so much", "my back hurts from lifting you") however, the response from the administration was always in favor of the aides. We were always told that the aides reported a different version of the incident with our mother being described as uncooperative and needy. We found this to be unconscionable, indefensible and without regard to our mother's feelings or well-being. We never felt as though our mother was cared for or respected in the way we were told she would be during our tour and inspection of Brookdale. The last 2 -3 weeks of our mother's stay at Brookdale caused great concern by family members. She was attended to last for meals resulting in her eating a cold breakfast alone in the dining room; oftentimes being the only resident at her table for lunches and dinners. Our mother was a dynamic, vibrant and accomplished independent woman who experienced many unfortunate physical illnesses which slowly limited her mobility. She remained sharp and had limited cognitive impairment which made her treatment at Brookdale all the more demeaning and unacceptable. She always stated that she felt she was treated as less than a human being which made her situation all the more difficult and sad for her and our family. We have since moved her to another facility where she receives respectful and decent treatment as she should. In our first week, an incident arose in which an aide made an inappropriate comment. When we reported it to the administration, it was handled in a quick and professional manner with the aide apologizing to our mother and family members. This is all we ask and expect; for our mother to be treated with respect, dignity and kindness. Unfortunately we rarely experienced that at Brookdale.

We went there due to a family member being transported there from another hospital because this hospital has neurology. When we got in we waited a bit while my man was inside the ER room with this family member so after a whole while he's comes out and we were told that this family member was going to stay the night. So we decided to ask the front desk what the visiting ours are and she asked us for the patients name and we gave it to her (mind you even after 7 hours of just waiting in the previous hospital for nothing we were still very nice) she had then proceeded to tell us that this family member was discharged at 18:27. I'm here like excuse me?!!! Checked out?! What do you mean checked out? Like he just gonna stroll out by himself?! I ask the front desk lady if he was discharged from THIS hospital or the hospital before and I clear as day remember her telling me that it was the hospital we were currently in. I told her that is impossible because we got there AFTER 18:45 she said "im just telling you what I see on the screen" she goes and ask the doctors and nurses if they seen my family member and she comes back telling me they never seen him...... EXCUSE ME?! DID YOU JUST LOSE MY FAMILY MEMBER?! They told us they probably didn't chart him yet. Ok fine. STRIKE ONE. I called the next day and decided to figure where they were in. I called and she told me they was in this department. The first girl I talked to I asked her about their health and she was nice ( a lil altercation when she told me to call back to speak to the nurse then didn't let me speak to her when I called back but honestly whatever) HOWEVER it was not as back as the lady I spoke to today. Omg she's the absolute worse like there is no words to describe how dumb this conversation was. I told her the first name of the patient (since their last name is long I started to spell it) I said their first name is ------ and their last name is V as in Victor a as in Apple she immediately cuts me off saying I don't see a ------ Victor or a Victor ------- I'm here telling her no his last or first name isn't victor his last name STARTS with V AS IN VICTOR. She starts getting loud wit me and start yelling at me and the entire conversation was her telling me she can't find a victor and to come and basically find him my damn self. Then same thing they can't find his chart even after a whole 24hr of him being there she basically telling me the hospital has loss record of where my family member went. ^ that is my experience as a patients family member because honestly how do you lose a patient. My family member has told me they treated them extremely badly in there like they was trash. They told the nurses they was hungry cuz they hadn't eaten since yesterday which would make 2 days and they brought them a hot cup of water and when they said they didn't want hot water and if they were just gonna give them water when their hungry they would like cold and they take it away and come back with even hotter water....wth. My family member stated that they were seen by 5 different doctors telling them 10 different things and were seen by atleast 10 different nurses telling them 10 different thing. They nurse told them they would be discharged even with their condition because Sunday and Monday was a holiday so there would be no docs to see them like WHAT?! I work in a medical facility too and never would we leave a critical patient without care...... They left them there for hours on end and when they tried to call a nurse the nurse would look and them and walk away. Honestly, what kind of facility is this? Because the amount of stressed my family was put through just trying to find out what's going on and where he is, is a whole haste giving me a damn headache.
