Heard really great things about The Brookdale and made a spontaneous decision to try them for dinner. There was ample parking in the back lot and to our surprise the main entrance was in the back. We made a reservation and arrived right on time and were seated right away. It took a good 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us but once they did their service was decent overall. The sausage eggroll appetizer was just ok and wasn't popping with the flavor that we anticipated. The ribs were also just ok and the corn muffin that came along with it was burnt on the bottom and around the side. The burger had really great flavor and the fries were also really good. As crazy as it is we may come back just to see if perhaps we ordered the "wrong items" .... granted a muffin being burnt has no excuse, but, there were other intriguing items on the menu that may entice us to give the place one more shot.

The Brookdale is the ideal place for a date or hanging with friends. There is indoor and outdoor seating, as well as significant space at the bar. I came in for brunch over the weekend and was quickly seated. Our server was very pleasant and provided some great recommendations. I loved how there were a wide range of cocktails and they were only $11! I enjoyed a lovely cocktail that had lychee, vodka and lemon. My entree, shrimp and grits, was delightful as well. Lastly, I loved how there was ample parking behind the restaurant as well as significant street parking in front. This was my second time at The Brookdale, so I will definitely be returning.

    Cold mozzarella stick for 24$

Absolutely disappointing experience, my boyfriend had been here a few times prior about a year ago and was raving about it so I was super excited to go, especially because of the huge mozzarella stick. Let me begin with the service, completely lack luster they were not friendly, our waiter disappeared after giving us water and we had to flag down someone else to take our order after waiting literally 20 Minutes. My bf and I ordered two appetizers which should usually be quick, no not at all. we waited almost 45 minutes for a cold Mozzerella stick and some boneless wings. There was no apology for the wait, there was no attentiveness to us and other people who sat after us were receiving there food while we had to Flag down a few times just to see where our appetizers were. After that him and I were ready to leave and again the waiters just disappeared. Fed up I had to get up and request to pay so we can leave, all I was told was that the computer was down. no one came to Tell us that, no one apologized at all, it was just an overall very disappointing experience. I am very sad to say that I would not recommend coming here whatsoever.

Close up of The Big Cheese

This is a beautiful restaurant! The service was ok. I had a taco salad that was really good. I really went there for the big cheese but I have to admit that the reviews that said it's overrated were right. I wish I could get my money back for that one because I didn't even end up eating it. My husband had the ribs. We agreed that the cornbread muffin that came with it was one of the best we've ever tasted, just light and buttery and delicious. He also thoroughly enjoyed the ribs. I recommend this place, but I also recommend passing on the pound of cheese.

    Big Sexy 2.0

I've been wanting to try here ever since they opened. My fiancé and I were finally back in Bloomfield and stopped by Friday night! We started with "The Premio" egg rolls, a jalapeño margarita and a nothing is real. The egg rolls were good; I liked the dipping sauce. They could've maybe used a stronger cheese flavor and more spice/heat but personal preference as I love cheese. My fiancé's jalapeño margarita was really good. My cocktail was just ok, wouldn't order it again. I ordered the big sexy 2.0 and my fiancé had the steak sammy. My cheeseburger was AMAZING. The bacon in the patty added an amazing salty flavor. I asked for medium and it was more like medium well, but no biggie. It's served with hand cut potato chips which were good but I love me some fries. The steak sammy had huge pieces of steak. It was good but we agreed it could've been seasoned a little more/better. For our second round of drinks we had the come a little closer and four city citrus city beer. I really enjoyed this cocktail. We sat at a high top by the bar and the tables are little close together. The table next to us was talking very loudly which made it hard to hear our own convo. But on the plus side our server was very nice. I'd come here just for the big sexy 2.0 but I spotted other things on menus that's peaked my interest. Will definitely come back next time we're in town!

The Brookdale is an outstanding place for a Sunday Brunch. The dining area and bar are well decorated and very welcoming. One thing I noticed in the spacious area was the sound lever being excellent. The greeter and service staff were very good. It was obvious that our waiter was new to the biz but one of his coworkers assisted him with eloquence by seamlessly backing him keeping out coffee full and doing that expert server glance while passing by. Bravo on the front house management for balancing the floor staff. The food was outstanding!!! We had breakfast on this visit but plan to return since this place has a diverse menu. It's a restaurant and a sports bar all in one and this looks like a great place to have some beers and bar food while watching the games. This place is a must try!!!

Came here for Valentine's day..last minute. Menu is overpriced in my opinion and not too many options...lots of items sold out. Chicken sandwich came with chips for $22...it was mediocre. Had the pretzel as app with cheese which was decent. Hubby loved his burger. Ambience was lacking...probably won't go back

This is a hidden gem in Bloomfield. Came here for some late night drinks and finger food to cap my birthday celebration. We sat by the bar and our bartender was great. He had a few recommendations for food which turn-out to be great. The drinks were on point and the food was delicious. The ambient is also great - mature crow for sure. I would highly recommend this spot for a date night and/or catch up with some friends. Everything in here is organic and fresh. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone. Keep up the great work guys!

    Korean BBQ Tacos BIRRIA STYLE
    Diana H.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened and it did not disappoint! First of all, it is a beautiful restaurant and the server was so fun with great suggestions. We ordered the Korean birria tacos which were delicious (although I felt it was missing like a refreshing coleslaw or kimchi slaw). And the big sexy was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The bacon in this burger was so thick and delicious. One of the best burgers my husband and I have tasted. Can't wait to return to try their giant mozzarella stick!

I've been interested in checking out this place for a while. A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the chance to grab dinner at The Brookdale during the work week. We drove over and parked in the lot in the back. When we went inside from the parking lot entrance, we approached the host area and were then seated at one of the two-person tables lining the wall. We ordered a few things off the menu that we could share. All really good! - Blistered Shishito Peppers. He ate most of these. I had a few (good, i just can't handle the heat as much as he can). - Thick Hand Cut Chips. I ended up eating most of these. They were really good and came with a dipping sauce. - Kale Salad. This was my favorite. Planning to try to make a dup version at home. - Mushroom Pie. This is an awesome option for vegetarians. It's a hardy pizza pie with strong flavor profiles with the cheese and caramelized onion. IMO - If I were drinking beers with dinner, this is pie perfect. That night I was just drinking water, so the flavor profiles were a little too strong for me. We both agreed that it was good we shared - so each of us had a few slices and half the salad (for balance). Overall - Good eats, good vibe. Our waiter took care of us. The host was friendly, she greeting us on our way in and as we were leaving... For sure, we would come back again and would recommend it!

Has a good TV selection for viewing games and music wasn't too loud. We stopped in after visiting Fanny's for a drink to watch the game. The bartender proceeded to inform us that they only had 3 beers on tap, one of which was bud light (of course they have that one, no one likes it). Went to the bottles and asked for two different beers, both they didn't have. Ordered a pizza, the only thing stopping this from being a one star. But definitely overpriced for the small 6 pieces you get. They also didn't have their signature dessert, chocolate lava cake. If you are looking for a Saturday night beer, I'd sooner drink under an overpass than here again.

I was very excited about breakfast at Brookdale with my girls. I have to admit that this has to be one of my favorite Brunches in awhile ! Wonderful atmosphere, food, and service. Definitely recommend, a MUST TRY! The restaurant is quite clean and stylish, has both indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of parking. Everything was top notch, including our accommodating waitress and the delicious, freshly prepared food. The environment was so relaxed that we immediately felt at home. I order "The Burger" as my entrée and a side of handmade potato chips. The burger was outstanding, the best I've had in a long time. This heavily seeded loaf was stuffed with excellent, tender meat, cheddar cheese, cola-cooked onions, and their own burger sauce. The onions had been properly prepared and were so soft they almost melted in your mouth. With the Brookdale sauce and cheddar cheese, they combined flawlessly. The freshly prepared potato chips were excellent. One of my friends ordered the "Biscuits and Gravy" she said they were the BEST she had ever had. And, I must say, she wasn't lying. The biscuits were moist, fresh, and warm, and the gravy was flavorful and loaded with tasty sausage bits in bite-sized pieces. We also order the SHAKSHUKA, which was loaded with spices and flavor. The dish was comforting, delectable, and delicious. For dessert, we ordered the CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST to share. Fresh berries, vanilla whipped cream, and maple syrup are served alongside the three fluffy, expertly prepared pieces of french toast. Overall 10/10!!! Will definitely be going back again!

    Spinach Artichoke Mac & Cheese

I visited here on a Tuesday night with 2 friends. We had a reservation and were seated right away. It wasn't busy and we were able to sit outside. There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant (where the hostess is) which we accessed through the IHOP entrance. Our waiter Christoper was friendly and attentive. He provided us good service. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees to share. We started with the carolina gold crispy wings and spinach artichoke mac & cheese. The carolina gold was like a mustard / tangy bbq type taste idk how to really describe but I'm not really a fan of mustard and I really enjoyed them. It's how the waiter described it btw lol. For entrees we ordered the chicken parm, pepperoni pizza and Korean BBQ tacos birria style. The tacos come with 2 but you have the option of adding more for an additional fee (I believe $5-6 more). I only had the chicken parm and pizza and it was so good! The chicken parm was huge and superrr cheesy. Their sangria is also good. I would visit here again & recommend to others.

We spotted Blue Steel which had good, modern curb appeal to our hungry tummies. It looks like downtown Bloomfield is having a moment with some new condos and nicer restaurants coming in. Thanks, gentrification!? Inside has a clubby, bar vibe and we were seated at a hightop near the bar. I love a good wedge salad. I prefer the classic but I appreciate BSP's variation that has tomato, cucumbers, crispy frizzled onions, feta cheese, homemade ranch dressing, and everything sprinkle seasoning. It was generously sized and refreshing. And there's nothing but good things to say about the Detroit-style ezzo pepperoni pie, except that i wish I had a bigger stomach to eat MORE. After the salad (shared), I was only able to manage one slice, but it was a happy slice. My first time trying Detroit-style and it didn't disappoint. As the third-largest producer of tomatoes in the entire country, this key pizza-making ingredient not only sets New Jersey's classic 'tomato pies' apart from any ordinary pizza. This 10,000-square-foot, two-story establishment with a neon-lit sign on Glenwood Ave in Bloomfield asks, "Just another pizzeria?" They also house a 20-seat speakeasy that's open Thursday through Saturday called the Rab.bit Hole that can be found upstairs behind a hidden entrance. Opened in 2020, Blue Steel Pizza Company is the answer and should become obvious after looking at the menu. A reservation was easily made via Resy. My partner and I were greeted at the host station and got a regular table in the 1st-floor dining room by the pizza oven in the middle. The vibe was modern and industrial. Patrons had to use their phone flashlights to read the menu as the lighting was pretty dim. They are known for their Detroit-style pizza--a pie baked in a rectangular, traditionally blue-steel pan, the kind once used by autoworkers. It's made with a blend of mozzarella cheese and traditional Wisconsin brick cheese that melts down the side of the pie, making for a burnt, gooey, cheesy crust. It's cold-fermented for three days and is closer to sourdough. It has real flavor and an airier texture. It's like a lighter version of a Sicilian with a buttery crust. As a starter, we decided on the Chopped Salad. For our main entrée, we opted for the Jersey Tomato Pizza Pie. Portions run big enough for sharing, and we downed them with the 1911 Cider. The pizza crust was light, airy, and crispy with the right amount of fresh ingredients, making the ensemble tastefully delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating, and our server was Adam. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful experience and would recommend this place.

The first margherita pizza I ordered was delicious and looked exactly like the photos they advertise online -- fluffy wood-fired crust, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and overall high quality. That positive experience is the reason I ordered again. Tonight, however, I opened the box and received what looked more like a thin-crust cheese pizza with tiny pieces of what appeared to be spinach scattered on top instead of fresh basil. The crust was thin and flat, not the thick, airy wood-fired dough that is advertised on their website and delivery platforms. The fresh mozzarella was also replaced with grated cheese, which completely changed the pizza. When I called the restaurant, I was told they do "Tavern Thursdays," where the margherita pizza is made differently -- thin crust, grated cheese, and basil sprinkled on instead of the traditional version. My issue is not necessarily that they offer a different style on Thursdays -- it's that this was NOT clearly advertised anywhere on the website or ordering platform where I placed my order. I was instead told that the information is posted on Instagram. That is unacceptable. Customers should not have to check a restaurant's social media to find out that the item they're ordering is completely different from what is being advertised on the actual ordering platform. If the pizza is going to be fundamentally changed one day a week, that should be clearly stated on the website, menu, and delivery apps before checkout. Otherwise, it feels misleading and false advertising. The pizza I received looked nothing like the photos used to advertise the margherita pizza, and not at all like the one I previously received. Really disappointing experience, especially after such a great first order.
