(Review way overdue) THIS PLACE, THESE AMAZING Human Beings !!! The Only thing that could improve Memory Matters is when they are blessed, to get an upgrade for their very much needed & well deserved own building. The entire community will be blessed with benefits. More like The Entire County! Janet & LuAnn are simply Angels ! Just to meet them is a blessing. Anyone who knows them I'm sure feels the same. My 1st encounter with Memory Matters was back in Oct 2021. I met Lucy & Joyce at a street type fair event. They were wonderful with my mother & I. These women were so kind & informative on what they do I just fell in love with the organization. The world needs more of these volunteers. I Highly encourage anyone to contact someone here & go check this place out. Get a tour, play games, have lunch, do crafts. Give back & Enjoy life . read more

In 2022 I wrote an unfavorable review about MMU. I am so sorry for that review. At that time I was in an agitated state because of my husband's dementia & I was seeking help. What I didn't know is that Covid had gotten in the way of everything going on. Thankfully, LuAnn read my review & reached out immediately. We had a good meeting which enabled me to get things sorted out. Although my husband is getting much worse, I feel like we have options now. Dementia is nothing any of us plan for. The emotions that go along with living with a person with dementia aren't planned either. MMU can help the spouse/caregiver some much-needed support. LuAnn & the other angels at MMU are there because they CARE! They will take good care of your loved one so that you can, too. read more

An Alzheimer's or Dementia diagnosis is overwhelming at times. Caregivers can receive support and education from Memory Matters in St George. The team at Memory Matters are well informed and have had personal experience as caregivers. Their experience is not only personal but professional and compassionate. Memory Matters has been a solid support in the southern Utah and parts of Nevada for many years, they know the community and they have a great relationship with local resources. They provide programs and service that have been used by caregivers and those diagnosed. It's comforting to know this agency delivers real support and compassion for the community, caregivers and those diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Dementia and related diseases. We serve local families that are dealing with an illness of dementia, such as Alzheimer's. Being local gives us the advantage in knowing local resources, people who will help, we know the culture and the needs of caregivers. We have a 6-year consistent history of providing personal services to help caregivers and those with dementia as they travel along this journey.

History

Established in 2012.

Kurt and LuAnn Lundquist started this business on March 23, 2012 with money from their personal savings account. They started as the Alzheimer's & Dementia Society and in 2015 rebranded as Memory Matters Utah. They have served locally for over 6 years while other groups have come and gone. Memory Matters Utah exists because of the excellent work of volunteers and with the support of local donors who care about this cause.

Meet the Business Owner: LuAnn L.

LuAnn founded this nonprofit when a national organization closed their office in Southern Utah. She had cared for her father-in-law with Alzheimer's disease and helped her sisters care for their father with vascular dementia. LuAnn graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in the College of Social and Behavioral Science. She and her husband are also graduates of the Dixie State University, then Dixie Jr. College, in 1976.

For years I have recommended Memory Matters to Friends and Family after we received help with our father. He had a short bought with vascular dementia and sudden onset dementia after having a leg amputation. while we did not go through years of caregiving, we experienced a sudden change in our father's behavior and personality. Memory Matters was there to help us find skilled nursing and hospice care. LuAnn spent time explaining the behavior changes in ways we could understand. We learned the importance of validation, with just that simple understanding we were able to simply love and understand our dad during the hard times. This was years ago, since then LuAnn, Janet and the team of angels continue to give! They work HARD!! building programs and services for this ever growing southern Utah community. I work at Memory Matters Utah. We provide services to families that are dealing with dementia illnesses, such as Alzheimer's, Lewy, body, FTD, vascular, dementia, and other senior brain health issues. We provide licensed adult daycare for seniors with dementia. We provide early stage education. There are a variety of support groups to choose from including an online support group. Good morning sunshine is our free telephone reassurance program. And we do a pre-diagnostic work up for you to take to your doctor. My favorite activity is the free caregiver or family consultation. read more

I work at Memory Matters Utah. A wonderful day is when I go into the Dementia Activity Group and visit with one of the seniors. We sing. We laugh. We dance. We create. We make new friends. Janet does the caregiver consultations and support groups. She is magical. Going to Memory Matters Utah is a relief for a new caregiver. They understand what you are going through because they have been there themselves plus they have been trained and know the local resources. read more
