They do it because then once you do an exchange if you need to return it they only will issue a store credit. In the state of Minnesota they must have it visably posted in the store where the customer can read it and see it. They do not. My place to go and my place to return what I didn't need. Staff is very friendly and helped me on my wild goose chase around the store! I recently bought JUNO brand wafer, or puck lights. They are 10 out of 10 easy to install and are very nice. Six pack was under $100. I also recently bought some electrical outlets and some MDF trim. The outlets were about $.20-$.40 cheaper than Home Depot and the MDF was a few dollars cheaper. The best part is everything that I needed to return including a 12 foot piece of trim was returned instantly and that was awesome ! I do feel like Menards has great prices and the 11% off is kind of cool, but then you basically have to spend it out of future purchases, which is not hard to do! But Home Depot has more quality brands and Milwaukee tools so I definitely go to Home Depot for different things than I do Menards! Pro tip is a Sprecher root beer on the way out! read more

I went into the Menard in Burnsville MN on Hwy 13 and was racially profiled and disrespected today. I was having a great day and walked out in tears! I do not appreciate that I went in for a screw for my doorknob, you guys didn't have it. I took what they gave me and was just going to accept the irritation, when arriving to the register Sandra came nearly face to face to me to tell me my total as if I could not see it already and I asked her to give me space. She informed me it was not A self-checkout register so I collected the items and went elsewhere. The next employee was just as worse, as I scanned my two items, she told me "No, don't do that I'm not even clocked in yet. I went to two employees who were just talking and told them about my poor experience. One proceeded to get the manger, Charles said he would help find the correct screw. After not being able to find it, he asked me multiple times was my screw too long or short. I told him I am not sure I just want the match to the screw I have. I just accepted that you guys are not equipped with what I needed and proceeded back to the manager at the front. I purchased a couch from here in June. The couch was wrapped in plastic, and I could only see what the color looked like. It was one piece, so I assumed that it was just one sofa. I decided to purchase it because I liked the color. I got one of their associates to help me. He took me to a computer and printed off a purchase receipt because I would have to come back to pick it up later once, I had a vehicle to haul it. I came back the next day to pick up the sofa. I ended up renting one of their pickup trucks to haul it. Once I got it home, my brother who was going to move into my house realized that there should be another piece. I went back to Menards and spoke with a manager who said they do not have the other piece and I could call Ashley to see if I can get it from them. This is supposed to be an L shaped sofa and will serve no purpose without the other piece. I have called Ashley, and they cannot get me another piece. I am out of over $300 and am not very happy at the moment. I will not buy furniture from here again. Menards should be ashamed of themselves because they should have known there should be 2 pieces and I should have been made aware of that. I would not have purchased this otherwise. They open at 6:30am Front desk ladies really know the lay out of the store and that helps like nobody's business because each Menard's has a very different floor plan. They don't have any service centers (e.g fix this for me) and I've never noticed that until this visit. read more

Very invasive curbside pick up experience, called the store got our items loaded into our vehicle. went to the exit as an employee came out checked our licenses plate and asked for our confirmation paperwork which we provided. Then he walks to our trunk and opens it to count and check our items, without our permission. We have done this multiple times and never had to do this, secondly If this is procedure why didn't the other customers get their vehicles checked? and why didn't the employee communicate what was going on? As you have to be scanned to be let in, call the store to get your items, a confirmation letter is printed out should be enough proof that these are our items, checking our vehicle and counting items is overly excessive Especially as we only purchased a few cardboard moving boxes! read more

Menards was quite possibly my favorite store for over 10 years. That has changed and I will never set foot inside again. Late April I tried to take my daughter there after pre-purchasing some lumber online. They turned us away at the door as childen "were not allowed" due to Covid. Ridiculous, but that debate can be had another day. Upon returning alone, obeying the rules...no kid, and face mask on, I was pulling my order from the lumber bins. However, there was one SKU I couldn't find. I asked for help. Not one but THREE guys working there were pompous and rude and acted as if I was the jerk for asking for help. Including the last who told me, "Go get in line at the help desk like everyone else". Unreal. I left my cart of lumber and walked. All of that is unfortunate. But to add icing to the cake, I have been given the run around on my refund for three weeks now. Customer service offered a full refund right away. Never showed. Then they blamed the store. The store told me to call customer service. Top notch Menard's, all the way around. On the positive side, I didn't realize how much better a value it was over at Lowe's! read more

Cons: The staff often lack basic knowledge about construction and the products that they sell. The guys working the lumber yard provide very poor customer service. Owning a home pretty much guarantees that you will end up in a Menards at some point. They always have rockin' sales on stuff you can actually use, like fence panels, which is what brought us to the Menards in Burnsville this week. The Richfield store is closer to us but didn't have a lumberyard so we headed to the familiar south metro because I wasn't about to spend nearly $800 on fencing materials sight unseen. The Burnsville store is only a few years old and is similar to Home Depot (boo!) in size but couldn't be farther from them in service. This is by far the friendliest Menards I've ever set foot in, and my foot has been in a few. Whereas the Richfield store's employees watched us as we wandered back and forth with confused looks on our faces* and didn't offer so much as a halfhearted "can I help you," everyone at this store was genuinely friendly and genuinely wanting to help. Using the kiosk estimator and ordering the parts for delivery at the materials area was quick, painless, and darn near something that could be called fun. Of course, we're putting up a fence to finally shut out our horrible, trashy, crackhead** neighbors so we were pretty giddy to begin with. We had to go back a couple of days later to change out some parts and add some stuff to our order and they were nothing but helpful in that process too. It was totally worth it to pay the extra delivery cost to get this stuff up to South Minneapolis. *This is a game we play often to judge the level of customer service in a store. We go out of our way to appear OBVIOUSLY in need of assistance. My boyfriend/roommate and I live here now. Well, it seems like it. We are here a few times a week being that we are eager new homeowners with a long list of projects. This Menard's was recently offering as much as an 11% rebate on all purchases. Also, they have machines that can look up past purchases and receipts if you accidentally threw away a box or proof of purchase so you can still return things like shower curtains that don't quite work in your home. We not so recently ordered lumber delivery to build a pergola. The day it was supposed to be delivered, we waited all day and ten minutes before the end of the time frame they called to say they weren't coming. Same thing happened three more times. Today it was finally delivered and half the wood was so damaged it is basically unusable. I expected some wear and tear in transport of course but it was ridiculous. Not pleased. If I could give zero stars I would based on our last experience with Menards. To be fair, this review applies to Menards corporate, not the Burnsville store specifically, but since I don't have an option for them, I will post it here. We purchased a brand new patio door at the Burnsville Menards and hired professionals to install it. The door looked great and we were super happy...until the first rainstorm. It was at that point that we noticed that our floor was wet. We thought the installers had erred so we called them up and they came back out to double check their work and they added a few more safeguards to ensure the water would no longer leak, but after the next rain we again had leakage around the door. At that point they tested the sill on the door and we discovered that the sill was faulty. I called Menards and they sent someone out to test it and they agreed that they had sold us a faulty unit. Their only solution was to offer us a new door, not to help pay the cost of having it reinstalled again. This will cost me an additional $750 above what I've already paid for installation, and only because Menards/Mastercraft sold me a faulty product. I've spent 10's of thousands of dollars at Menards over the years, yet that did not matter to them. The refused to come to a compromise deal regarding the additional installation costs. Because of that I will NEVER purchase another product from Menards. They do not care about the customer relationship, nor do they care about the customer period. read more

My experience with their counter tops was terrible. The guy, John I think pretty much didn't have time for possible customer, just gave me a booklet and flyer. Didn't tell me some counters include a sink, would be nice to know. Ordered what I was told was my sink with the countertop. When product arrived at store no one contacted me, it was there for over a week. My contractor actually notified me. When delivered there was no sink. When I went to the store they told me the order wasn't the sink just the price for special cut out. Talking to manager, Wes I think, of department, he pretty much told me it was my fault for not being informed enough. Done with them, Home Depot never treated me this way and they will get my business from here on. read more

I went into this Menards looking for a vanity as a new home owner- Matt was working the department and was a huge help. He explained all the decisions I needed to make and made sure I got each of the pieces to make my vanity complete. I had no idea vanity top, faucet and hardware was sold separately or that hardware for vanities could be found in the back of the store by the kitchen cabinets. He was nice, knowledgeable, and his help saved me tons of time!! read more

MENARDS: If you are going to carry a hard to find product like rough sawn cedar, PLEASE try and get your inventory correct online and have your employees know where it is in the yard. It cannot be that hard. You've got about 5 employees out in Shed 19 that were totally clueless where the product should have been and it turns out there wasn't even a spot that any of us could find for the 2x6x16 rough sawn cedar and the counter and your website for the store said there were 15! I ended up buying 12' boards that I really didn't want, and then had to do a return back in the store since I had to prepurchase the 16' boards before going into the yard. Ahrg, horrible experience. The whole reason I went down to that store is because the Richfield store said they didn't have any and when I went there after Burnsville, it turns out they had about 10! Unreal. Went to this particular menards to purchase a bike rack hitch from them which was priced at $69.99. It took me a good 10 minutes to find somebody for help. A few days later I used the brand new rack to carry my $1,200 mountain bike to a nearby trail. During the way over the rack failed to secure my bike and i almost lost my bike on the highway. The bike was nearly touching the ground with the rack barely holding on. Very disappointed i went back to menards and tried to return the malfunctioned bike rack to the same store a week after the purchase and they denied me the $69.99 purchase price. I had lost the receipt but i had purchased with cash a week ago and came back to return a faulty item which almost cost me my prized bike. Instead of a refund of my money or at least a store credit for 69.99, they told me they would only give me 25.99 back as a store credit. They are unbelievable, they gave me less than half of what i originally paid and for a faulty item that could have done more damage than it was worth! From that day on i vowed never to shop at any menards again, as for they are lacking in customer service and their return policy is outrageous, border lining thievery. Now I go to home depot anytime i need home improvement products, the customer service is friendly and knowledgeable, and most importantly their return policy doesn't try to steal from an honest business transaction. read more
