My friends and I were on ísbíltúr, at Icelandic tradition where you take a road trip to get ice cream. This was the first stop on our journey and we opted to pace ourselves and shared a few small dishes to get started. We appreciated the seating options inside so we could gather around a table and begin our tasting. My favorite here is the black cherry-it has small chunks of actual cherries in it! These are the type of people I love engaging with it makes the experience so much more loving, and engaging.. Ambience 5/5 Everything is neatly organized and has a high energy presence. The displays are lit brightly, and the signs display the confidence of the establishment here all the customers seem to be in very high spirit and have huge smiles on their faces once they receive their order, especially their drinks.. Nielsen's leans into that heritage with a menu that covers concretes, mix-ins, floats, sundaes, multiple sizes, and a full food menu straight out of a 1950s cafeteria. Nostalgic, ambitious, and a lot to choose from. I visited the South Jordan location and have to be honest about the full experience. The tables were dirty, the staff (mostly teenagers) were focused on the counter and not on cleaning, and the wait was long enough that I nearly walked out. The double burger was unremarkable, the fries came out unsalted, but the corn dog was surprisingly good. None of that is why you're here, though. The cherry almond concrete is why you're here. It is outstanding! Generous almond pieces throughout, and the cherry flavor tasted genuinely real, not like something from a syrup bottle. I've had frozen custard all over, and this is legitimately my favorite. My advice: skip the food, go straight for the custard. Nielsen's earns every star on that alone.

They juice it per order so it's not pre-juiced sitting in a fridge somewhere. It tastes really good but also has a little kick from the ginger.
