Competition in the area for supermarkets has increased, with as many as 4 new supermarkets opening in the last 5 months. Most of these new supermarkets purport to have "wholesale" prices, yet they charge more for most of the items as compared to Carrefour. So I guess I have to give Carrefour credit (and a better rating).

Many of the employees use masks and visors. They have an employee who applies hand sanitizer as you enter, and another employee who wipes down the shopping cart before you take it. They have Plexiglas shields at every cash register and have removed some of the checkout lanes so you are further apart. There are employees sweeping, mopping and wiping surfaces throughout the store, so it seems like they're doing a pretty good job at trying to keep everyone from getting sick.

Carrefour is a multinational supermarket chain that got its start in France. Brazil is its second…read morelargest market, but they can be found all over Europe & Asia as well as in South America. This particular store is a blessing & a curse. They carry some international items that you can't find in other supermarkets and the store is huge. They carry all the normal grocery items as well as housewares, which are usually priced reasonably. The home appliances (refrigerators, washers etc.) and electronic items are usually on the expensive side compared to other stores. Make sure that you pay attention to the prices because sale items can be very cheap, but non-sale items are usually much more expensive compared to competitors. This location also has a gas station, and this is really a great reason to come here, because they always have the lowest prices in the metropolitan area.

They have some items that are hard to find (imported cheeses, some wines and liquors), but mot of their items are not the cheapest. It's also not that big of a supermarket, so you will probably want to stop at a couple of markets that are close to here that have lower prices for your everyday items. It's OK, and glad to have more choices in the area.
