After much discussion with other friends I decided to give a call and was met with a rude attitude and a lie that the winner won weeks ago. Mind you we were in there just a week and a half ago with scratchers still there. They said they had posted it to which I responded with we've been all been watching the story and saw nothing. I brought up how the "giveaway" drew in a lot of people willing to hopefully win something when in reality it was a waste of time and money which led me to ask if we could return stuff and was met with no returns or exchanges and sorry I felt that way. They were also great with the boots, helping me figure out what size actually worked for me across different styles and brands. That part matters because cowboy boot sizing can feel like it was invented by someone who wanted to make online shopping impossible. What I appreciated most was that they weren't pushy. They clearly knew their stuff, explained the differences, and seemed to genuinely enjoy helping me find the right fit. Sweet! Clay, the owner, was super nice and we chatted the entire time I was looking around the store. He told me that this store has been here for 25 years and that he goes around the world looking for items and buys them up and then has them shipped back to here. Great! The reason the store is called Yucatecan Imports is when he first opened the store, he originally was bringing back hammocks from Yucatan, nice little history there! Each item in the store is marked with price and also where it comes from, so super cool! This is about as fair trade as it can be. Clay has hand painted scrolls from Thailand, Buddha calendars from Nepal, bookmarks from Turkey, earrings from Peru and Mexico, and my favorite, he has a chirango from Ecuador (however, the chirango was made in Bolivia)! I wanted to stay in here all day and look at everything he has as it is super neat all the wares he carries. He doesn't operate an online business, so he's old school, and wants you to come into his store, great! I ended up buying a mini wooden carved elephant from Thailand, this is a gift for my mom as she loves elephants (and so do I) and will send it to her! We came in around 7:30pm and it was clear from the start that they were all ready to leave. They yelled when they were closing every time someone came in and were lounging and sitting on the counter. They continuously were rolling their eyes every time someone grabbed clothing and it was such an awkward experience. Right after we came in, they shut off the music and started flickering the lights and laughing at everyone. I would understand if it was 7:50pm and being annoyed but it's your job to be there maybe don't have one if you can't be a decent human. I've worked retail on mill ave so I understand being in college and having stuff going on but it's honestly not that difficult to balance having a job with it. This was the worst retail customer service I've seen especially for a job that is not that hard.
