Barrel wine. 0,94. nuff said…read more well, more can be said... my friend lives around the corner from here - and before we head out to the park or inside to just talk, we pop in here to stock up. down in the cellar, they have bottles of wine... but upstairs, they have these big barrels on tap. what my friend does is he keeps a couple of empty wine-sized bottles with a flip lid that you get at the chinese shop - in the freezer - and when he wants some wine, he goes down, has them refill the bottle. for less than a Euro. It was decent white wine. nothing earth shattering - but pleasant for an afternoon picnic in the park. it's a cute little neighborhood convenience store - bigger than a 7-11, but smaller than a caprabo. with a decent variety.

I visited to get some essentials to return to my hotel nearby. The opening hours are in line with the rest of the mall, as of October 2024, they're open until 9 pm Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday. The store is large, but the layout just seems to make sense, so I didn't struggle to find what I was looking for, the language barrier caused the only issues, but I managed to sort everything out using the translate app on my phone. The store seemed fairly modern through the aisles; prices were no more expensive than anywhere else in Spain, although many items seemed to be priced much higher than I'd expect to pay back home in the UK. The checkout area could use a little extra work, though. The quality of the fresh fruit and meat looked very good, which is something I find so appealing in Europe, although I was unable to make the most of it on my trip. 4*

When I travel, I like spending some times just walking thru a local grocer. I had a cart and probably spent almost an hour here looking at the different types of wines, picos camperos and cheeses. I was perusing thru the deli counter and saw all types of meat and wanted to pick up some items at the counter. The lady at the counter started talking to me and I said my usual 'hola', I knew this conversation would go beyond that, so I think she started explaining the difference to me between Jamón Serrano and Jamón Ibérico. I didn't want to break the wallet so I took out my phone and used Google Translate to make sure I was getting some reasonable prices Jamón. After the store manager came out trying to figure out what I was asking, I did get what I was looking for twenty minutes later (see photo of that vacuum packed goodness!). I brought it back to the room and took the rest with me to the Sagrada Família. I recommend checking this market out if you eat nearby at Cerveceria Catalana.

When you walk in it has that mixture of smells that you know you're absolutely repulsed by and at the same time thrilled to smell. You know everything in there is fresh; the fruit is fresh, the fish is fresh, the vegetables are diverse and look just picked, and the cheese is amazing. The charcuterie is like a fantasy! This market even has plants for sale as well as flowers and a few additional outlying products. When you walk up to a stall, it's not guaranteed that you're going to get a smile or a happy, "How are you?" But it is guaranteed that you will get good service. Selling the product is the name of the game here. I fully believe that if you are ever in barcelona and you come by this market you should absolutely stop in and see what it's all about. It's one of those rare places that you will be extremely glad that you saw and you'll think about later in life even if you don't buy anything, it's worth a look.

Unlike Boqueria, there aren't that many vendors selling cooked foods/tapas/snacks. Instead, it seemed more like a place where locals did their food shopping. We picked up some strawberries, so this is a good spot to pick up some fresh fruit. There's also a supermarket downstairs. They sell flowers and plants out front, and while I definitely didn't need any flowers, it was still nice to just look at them. If you're staying nearby and want to experience some local vibes, you should check it out. Otherwise, it's probably not worth going out of your way for if you're not looking to buy groceries. Of course I checked on Yelp and the Mercadona was at the top of the list. It was also located a few blocks away and easy walking distance. The store is rather large, but from the entrance, one wouldn't think so. They have a great selection of food products and other household items. I picked up a baguette, some jamon (lol), brie and white cheddar cheese, potato chips, and a bottle of wine. Oh, and paper towels, dish soap, and a sponge. It was all pretty reasonably priced. The bread was freshly baked but I'm not sure from where. The jamon and cheese were great! And the brand of chips were pretty good. I scored with the bottle of wine as well. Overall, I was able to recreate a cafe meal for less than the cost at a cafe, with enough left over, except the bread and wine, for another lite meal. Overall, this is a great store to shop at. Much like my Albertson's at home, but better...way better!

I originally came in here for a quick look around and to use the toilet. I was upset to find the toilet locked, and the staff working seemed quite rude and ignorant, despite knowing I was waiting, they carried on doing nothing but talk to each other for a few minutes, before one of them came to serve me, who spoke little to no english. I also had issues with my server at the checkout, she spoke no english and just pointed at things, rather than make any conversation whatsoever. The range is satisfactory, but quite poor for a supermarket of this size, inside it lacks that modernity and doesn't feel like a good large supermarket I'm used to in the UK, and I've even seen a few examples of in France. There was a fresh juicing machine for Orange juice and I picked up a small carton for 1.65 euro, I liked this as it tasted good and it was fresh. The selection of drinks was also poor, there was very little to choose from and even a convinance style supermarket nearby would have offered more, for example I couldn't find any of the flavoured Lipton Iced Teas I like, which I can't get in the UK, or any flavours for that matter other than Lemon. The shop floor didn't have many staff members to offer assistance, which links into my comments on the poor service. Overall, this supermarket is a real disappointment, with not many large supermarkets nearby I think Caprabo is taking that for granted and the overall look, feel and stock of the store as well as service is suffering because of that, hence they are currently worthy of just a single one star with the only two positives being the lack of similar stores nearby and the fresh orange juicing machine which the public can use.
