If you don't like crowds, this market is for you. A bit under the radar with more of a neighborhood and less touristy feel and not as busy as La Boqueria. I arrived shortly after opening (8 am) on a Saturday. As one of our Tour Guides mentioned, the wonderful aromas in a market as you pass the different stands full of fresh/seasonal products is unforgettable. This one has the usual suspects-butchers, fish mongers, olives, nuts, fruit, a stand that had only eggs (a few varieties), Jamon/Iberico Ham only stands and of course various restaurants. I had some breakfast and not breakfast food at Pinotxo Bar (Xuxos, Cafe con Leche, Beef Cheeks and Octopus Galician style. We picked up some croquettes (chorizo) and spinach and chorizo empanadas at another stand-delicious! We also got a jamon/cheese and Serrano ham/cheese croissants for lunch at another spot-also delicious! Overall, packs a big punch for a smaller market and definitely worth a visit. read more

While this market (or rather mercat) is not super popular compared to other spots, it's perfect if you are the type of person who doesn't like to be around huge crowds. Since the vendors probably frequently change, I will not go into too many details. But the market has the typical components of a market - various meats, fish, ham (of course), small bites (tapas/pinchos), cheeses and wines. I thought the prices were decent (as a tourist). While this probably is not a popular tourist destination in Barcelona, I will hit the spot if you want a quick and easy market experience. All the fun discoveries of eating your way through a local market minus the hordes of tourists. For a truly local experience, head to Mercat de Sant Antoni. I enjoyed this market way more than La Boqueria. Manageable crowds and unfussy yet cozy experience. A delight for a leisurely morning of eating through the various stores. From cod croquettes to prosciutto snacks to cheeky morning prosecco and more, there is plenty to discover in the market plus the surrounding stores. There's also a supermarket around the corner for things you can't find in the market. Smaller market but local flair more than makes up for its size. read more

The bigger public markets are sensory overload, this one is smaller without the tourists. A much more pleasant food shopping experience. read more

Mercat de Sant Antoni is a renovated and clean local market. There weren't many tourists compared to Mercado de La Boqueria which was super crowded but with huger variety. We tried 2 stands based on our local tour recommendation. Our first stop was Masclans and we ordered Codfish salad (esqueixada in catalan), Croquette with cod and Buñuelo with cod. We were impressed by the freshness of their codfish salad and it was the best codfish salad we had in Barcelona. Then we tried Manchego cheese (We had 3 different cheese red wine, paprika and normal.) and Fuet from Vic (Spanish dry sausage) at PeP. We didn't find it special but the taste was not bad. read more

When in Barcelona a must see - the Antoni neighborhood is very popular- enjoyed the vendors on the perimeter of market-

Since Mercat de Sant Antoni was under renovation during our visit, not every stalls were available as now the vendors were located into a make shift structure. The food market area was not too impressive with limited vendors of everything. Though less touristy than Boqueria but just not as fun. I would not suggest making a special trip to come here unless the original location finished renovating and all the vendors moved back to the actual Mercat de Sant Antoni's building. But of course, if you are staying in the area and want to pick up some local products, it is not a bad choice. read more

As this market was right around the corner from the apartment that we were staying in, my friends and I took a walk around it one morning. While a few things caught my eye, there really wasn't much to be found here. I did manage to find a few Marvel comics that were in Spanish that looked interesting, but the asking price (especially in Euro) was just outrageous. The sellers here seem to be very firm on prices and not fans of haggling. I would not go out of my way to stop here unless you are staying in the area. read more

Walking into Sant Antoni makes you feel like you're living in a very very small town (in the best of ways). There are many things to love about this public market: it fills a void that is left by Boqueria's touristy focus...this is a place where you can by excellent quality foodstuffs at fabulous prices without the anonymity, chaos, slow pace, and pickpocketing issues that are incipient at that other, bigger public market in the area. But enough with comparisons: Sant Antoni is awesome in its own right. The market has a huge variety of different stalls, and all the material is fresh. Most importantly, though, you build real relationships with the people who provide you with food. The women who work at the bean/nut/dried fruit stand I go to are, perhaps, the most helpful, friendly, personable people I've ever met, and I trust their advice every single day when it comes to their product. This place is busy, especially in mid/late mornings, but go enough times and you'll realize just how personal--and beautiful--this market is. Sant Antoni is one of those places that makes Barcelona a living, breathing, wonderful place to live, and for that alone it's worth a visit. read more

I don't get it. This is suppose to be like La Boqueria, but more "local." What does "local" mean? Less selection for the same price? The only possible benefit this place has over La Boqueria is that it tends to be less crowded--which is a big deal, but I usually end up having to go to La Boqueria anyway because I can't find what I am looking for. As a tourist, this little market is a breath of fresh air. Get that nasty La Ramblas pick-pocket trap away from me! Not many people speak English here... My Spanish is rudimentary at the very best.... shall we say... cavemen have better Spanish than I do.... My Catalonian? forget about it I came here to buy meats and cheeses as souviniers for my family and friends (im from New York) what a WONDERFUL place. I bought in bulk and the meat dude was ready to give me a discount. He didn't speak English, but he called over a buddy from a neighboring butcher shop (his competition came to help!) to translate for me. That guy's english was amazing. he even know Japanese. Everything is reasonably priced, exceptionally fresh and visually so appetizing! Plus, as stated earlier, i dont have to be paranoid about my purse being pickpocketed.
