Having spent next to no time in the area, I was stoked to find C&G, and even more stoked when I walked in and saw they use Kokako beans. For brekkie, I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, which came out with dressed salad of rocket, onion and capers. I usually prefer such accompaniments on my bagel, undressed, but with the generous amount of salmon and C.C already on there I totally forgot about it. Also, they mix fresh herbs through their cream cheese - big tick in my book. Perhaps, what stood for me the most though, was the service. Just little things - like the barista chatting to me while she made my coffee, bringing over water as soon as I sat down or asking how my meal was part way through - sometimes it's just the little things that make all the difference. They have the standard Columbus menu including a Paleo breakfast. The cabinets here are often a little messy looking and they don't have a separate one for gluten free items. If you order takeaway drinks, they always take a long time to arrive, I'm not sure why they don't prioritise the takeaways! They do have a large amount of comfortable space including a kids area.

I have eaten here many times and always bring friends and family. The staff are extremely lovely, you are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and a belly full of yummy food. I have often found that Japanese restaurants in New Zealand tend to dumb down their menus and often up-size the meals. But this was a refreshing change, offering an extremely traditional experience from the moment you walk in the door. This is one place you cannot miss!

This has to be one of the best chippies in New Zealand, primarily because the Marsic Brothers have their own boats that go out and fish daily so you'd have to go a long way to get fresher fish. You can of course chose what sort of fish you'd prefer for your battered treats, as well as buy raw fish if you'd prefer to bring it home and cook it yourself. It's almost as good as catching it yourself. Of course, they've also got the chips to match the fish, as well as very fine potato fritters. I think they do sell other things but I've only ever had classic fish and chips from here so I can't comment on anything else!

It is like having lunch at your cool aunt's place. Homestyle fabulous! Compared to the other options nearby, this sunny little glass front cafe is a little piece of heaven. The ladies who own it are super friendly, and say hello by name whenever I stop by. They do fabulous catering, and their morning tea is to die for (warm just baked cheese scones.... savory tarts with cumin and kumera... excuse me, I'm drooling...) At lunch time they always have an assortment of interesting and healthy salads -- tons of vegetarian options, and you can mix and match as many as you want in a container. One of my favorite options of late is the spicy eggplant. It's half an eggplant that's been roasted, scooped out, mixed up with spices and whatnot, and put back in the skin. I LOVE eggplant, and this is as good as it gets!!! I always find it hard to resist their beautiful cakes. I tend to buy a slice with the idea of bringing it home to share with my husband for dinner, but sometime around my afternoon tea I end up starting to sample it.
