The Hotel Mercure London City Bankside is in the perfect location if you want to be close to the city but not amidst the hub of the inner London action. I often book my bosses in here when they need to stay near the office and it is definitely a favourite. They rooms are quaint and modern with facilities such as satellite TV, and a direct dialling facility, modem point, and most importantly, a fully stocked mini bar! The Loft is the Mercure's restaurant and bar area which is ok but tends to be fairly quiet and full of business people on their laptops. The hotel is definitely comfortable and the interior is very funky - the reception area has some amazing pink sofas and purple rugs which adds a little 'pzazz' to the corporate atmosphere and I couldn't help but think would look just lovely in my flat. The staff are fantastic and the overall service is really very good. It is also great value - I recently booked a standard room for £99 per night including breakfast.

Vegan burger from room service :-)

Good hotel this. Location wise, it's maybe a ten minute walk from London Bridge underground station, and is in an area that seems to have quite a few Pret type shops, so getting breakfast and lunch on the go would be very easy. It is almost right opposite a Marks & Spencer Simply Food, which was really handy - M&S pretty much keeps me alive when I'm in London. The reception staff were lovely - very friendly and efficient, and when I explained how I continually get lost in London, the chap even gave me a map, and explained key locations on it, and not in a patronising robot-like manner, which I really appreciated. My room was good. It was nice and cosy, with an adjustable temperature control, and had everything I needed, including a fridge - I do like a hotel room with a fridge, as it means I can keep my own strange food in it. The bathroom could be improved - there's some really obvious design flaws such as the sink which seemed not to have any way of putting the plug in or out, and when the tap was on at a reasonable flow there was the delightful feature of the water being directed straight back out of the sink and all over my middle. Good lighting though - great for doing makeup. The best thing about this hotel though was that they have a vegan burger on their room service menu! That's pretty amazing for a London hotel - I was well impressed. It was one of those mushroom type burgers and the room service order taker seemed to know what he was doing too - 'madam I can assure you 100% that your meal will be 100% vegan' was a very reassuring phrase to hear. Overall I was pretty happy with the meal. The other thing that I was really happily surprised to see is that the complimentary toiletries were free from parabens and the other really bad chemical nasties. Seems that the Mercure know their stuff. I liked it, I'd be very happy to stay here again.

Lovely higher-end hotel with very friendly, efficient staff in a convenient central London location. The attention given to customer service is unlike anywhere else I've ever stayed. This started before I even arrived, I received an email allowing me to go through check-in in advance of arrival on my phone, something I've not seen before for hotels. This made check-in a breeze on arrival. Walking through the door into the hotel's lobby/bar you are greeted with a warm, well designed and friendly atmosphere. The formal reception desk has been replaced with a large wooden desk reminiscent of something you might have at home, nicely finished with decorations and ornaments. The reception staff use tablets to perform all of their functions which allows you to sit on the comfy sofas during check-in (a really nice touch when you've just been travelling for a long time). The room we stayed in was located on the 6th floor and I cannot recommend the upgrade to a superior-privilege room enough. The sheer attention to detail in the entire room is amazing. Lovely art work of London on the walls, including in the bathroom. The bathroom mirror is heated and has an illuminated digital clock built into it as well as a magnifying face mirror. The room included complimentary drinks in the mini bar, a kettle (with tea/coffee sachets) but also a Nespresso machine for making something a little extra special. The bed is very comfortable and absolutely massive with a million pillows and cushions to allow anyone to get comfy and enjoy a wonderful night's sleep. We took advantage of breakfast in the room and this was delivered on time with a phone call just before delivery to confirm we were ready for it. The breakfast was nice and the selection vast (something available for everyone). The hotel group is undergoing a large push towards digital/eco services and is a member of the group's 'PLANET 21' scheme which aims to reduce impact on the environment through all aspects of their business. This meant things like invoicing on checkout is delivered via email, a nice touch to have. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here and can whole heartedly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for somewhere a little bit special to stay in central London for a reasonable price. Top tip: If you can, book plenty of time in advance (over 6 months or so) or in Accor sales (Mercure's parent company) you can then pick up the higher-level rooms for a steal of a price.

The staff was very friendly and gave us some suggestions of places to eat and have coffee while we waited. The comfy room was SNUG but it had all of the amenities I needed. I wish the room had more accessible outlets. There was one on one side of the bed but not the other. We accidentally overloaded the circuit in our bedroom because of it by using a power strip from the single outlet and it shut down all of the power to the outlet and TV. The staff was quick to come up to take a look and fix the issue. They let us borrow their adapter. I did make use of the water provided at the front desk. The lobby seems to be a hang out place for studying and free wifi. There was an instance where sat down in the lobby momentarily just to figure out my destination and the staff immediately poured me some water. It's also close to a grocery store Overall I had a great experience and would recommend to anyone.

Thankfully, they dealt with the issue in a reasonable time frame. # Ambiance The ground floor is a bustling area with a cafe and a restaurant. The third floor smells of mold- nothing is visible but it stinks from one end of the hall to the other- noticeable as soon as you get out of the elevator. The room- ok size, poor air conditioning- they did bring a fan to us, dated, and in need of a thorough cleaning. Housekeeping is dismal. The beds are not made- the blanket/ duvet cover is smoothed out but bottom sheets are not. Dirty glasses are not replaced. Breakfast was good- well stocked, good variety. In summary- a very unpleasant stay in a dated, dirty "hotel" with poorly trained staff and management who doesn't care. I will not stay at any IHG properties in the future.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendliest staff who checked us in with no issues. We were offered cocktails, we were given a brief tour, and we were given London suggestions based on our likes and dislikes. The hotel itself is stunning. You don't get that stuffy cookie cutter hotel feeling... it's chic and artsy and fun. The rooms were incredible. The amenities plentiful and the utmost quality. And the art... the art is everywhere and it's a vibe. The hotel location is conveniently located just a block from the river Thames. It's also a short walk to the Tate Modern, Burrough Markets, Flibe Theater, the London Eye, Big Ben, etc. for anything else you're a short walk from many train stations (Black Friar, Waterloo, etc). You can also get a river cruise nearby. While we were mostly in our room just to sleep. The rooms were so fancy yet inviting. There is neat art hanging on the walls. There's complimentary chips (crisps) and chocolates in the cabinets near the mini fridge. The mini fridge is stocked with canned waters. There's also closet space, an iron, a fancy new Nespresso machine, tea options, a safe, mini fridge, etc There's a gym, a working art gallery and work space, a hip bar, and a delightful restaurant that serves both dinner and a breakfast that includes a delicious buffet. One day we were out and we came back to our room only to find that we had a bottle of champagne waiting on ice, truffles, and a thoughtful card from the staff. Another day we ran into a staff member near the hotel (not at work) who gave us more suggestions and told us that they wanted to comp our breakfast for the last couple days of our trip Some tips: Take advantage of the Mon-Thurs wine happy hour on the second floor. There is a lovely lounge and the wine pours freely for an hour. Mingle with the staff and other guests. Ask the staff for local recommendations. Use the carafe water stations on each floor to bring water to your room. There is stilled and sparkling water options on tap. And in the morning as you're leaving feel free to pick up canned water (stilled or sparkling) on your way out. Also, if it's raining there are complementary umbrellas you can borrow on your way out. The Bankside Autograph Collection is an incredible experience. There are so many little touches that make you feel like you're not only in the best of hands, but that the staff has gone above and beyond to make you feel like you're royalty. I will definitely be back here. I can't stop raving about our experience. Please. Don't waste your time with other lodgings. This is where you should stay. Cheers!!

They'd held our bags since our room wasn't ready at check-in - Imagine if I'd been a crook and had taken bags that weren't even mine?! She didn't even bother to check if the numbers on my ticket matched what was actually on the luggage. I DEFINITELY COULD HAVE TAKEN SOMEONE ELSE'S BAGS IF I WANTED TO. September 25, 2024…read more We stayed here using our Hilton Honors points for five nights with a sixth night free, and were upgraded from a standard to a superior room due to our Hilton Diamond status. Our room overlooked a quiet side street on the British Museum side, and came with a combination shower/bath bathroom including a cloth heater for drying clothes, very useful as we had quick drying socks and underwear for our two week stay in London and New York City. The bed was two twin beds side by side, so I didn't have to worry about the wife pulling the covers off of my side of the bed. Stayed here a second time starting April 22, 2025 for 5 nights. Stayed on the opposite side of the hotel in a superior room, with two windows instead of on one, complete with morning sunshine, as no tall buildings to block our view. Room came with at least four USB charging ports, so didn't need a plug converter for our cell phones nor notepads. A laptop would have required a plug converter to recharge. And the bed was a true queen size bed, and not two twins pushed together. Room was 12' x 12', and the bathroom was 10' x 6' with shower only. Huge bathroom for European hotel. Room came with dorm size mini refrigerator, and electronic safe, along with a 24" flat screen TV, puny by American sizes. Very quiet, even though we were next to the service elevator. Both stays came with chocolate chip cookies, water, and free buffet breakfast for Hilton Silver, Gold and Diamond members. We ended up paying 1088 GBP for four nights in a superior room, and getting the fifth night free due to spending $15000 on our American Express Hilton Honors card. Seems pricey at almost $354 a night, but it includes a 20% VAT, and the reservations were made 5 months in advance. Could have gotten a standard room for a single night at the last moment for half that price. We earned 40, 000 Hilton Honors points, or $240 due to our Hilton Diamond status, for our stay using the Amex credit card. Place in the middle of the action on a busy street. According to Tripadvisor, 280 restaurants and 91 attractions within 0.3 miles Piccadilly line tube stations in Holborn and Russell Square within 0.3 miles bracket the hotel. Can take the Piccadilly line directly from Heathrow Airport to Holborn or Russell Square without transferring for about $7.70 per person using contactless credit card. Uber would be about $70, and cab $90.

The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. They allowed us to use the amenities at their spa when our room wasn't ready and we needed to clean up from the all-day travels we had spent since the day before coming over from the States. Staying at the hotel is an experience from the fact that this Victorian building used to be the original train station for St. Pancras. They have repurposed the high-ceiling gothic interior that originally served for the meeting and ticketing offices for the main lobby area and the Booking Office 1869 bar. The grandeur of the design is allowed to fully take place in the superb elements of fine dining and comforting relaxation. The Booking Office Bar & Restaurant was a mainstay for us during our time at the hotel. It's difficult not to want to check out the Victorian splendor of that interior while enjoying delicious cocktails and food at the bar or one of the nearby tables. While we didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the Victorian Punch Hour that was at 5:05 each afternoon, it is something of heard to check out if you can. In addition to the Booking Office, there is the Hansom in the lobby, the Seasonal Terrance for wine hour, MI + ME, and the Gothic Bar. The latter of which was also quite magical with its Victorian design and grand luxurious interior with darkly warm lighting and creative cocktail menu. This year I found the Rosewood and was immediately intrigued by their afternoon tea styled after Japanese wood block paintings. The tea is served in their mirror room, which is very elegant with hundreds of mirrors decorating the ceiling. To stay with the Japanese theme, the traditional tea sandwiches were replaced with amuse bouche that were definitely the best savory items at all of the afternoon tea venues I tried. The rice cracker with smoked salmon was delightful, as was the scallop. After the savory portion they brought out a miniature Japanese cheesecake with yuzu, matcha, and chocolate which was stunningly delicious. The pastries, which are arguably the star of the show are brought out in a decorative box which is opened to reveal three works of art. They were beautifully done, but more style than substance with the flavors not living up to the rest of the menu. The tea menu was comprehensive and I enjoyed all of the teas I tried. It was a bit hard deciding sometimes, because many of the tea descriptions spent so much time sharing how rare and fancy they were that they ran out of space to describe the actual flavor profiles. At the end of the meal they brought me a small box with one sachet of tea to take home, which was a lovely treat. The Rosewood put on a solid afternoon tea.
